To me personally (aka in my personal opinion), Tournaments should have a stronger connection to the theme of the game. As they are today they are just "competitions" without any real concern with the setting or theme of the game, giving them a very "disconnected" feeling, where the story and theme of the game don't matter and its just about mechanic manipulation. This is the biggest turn off for me in competitive play, the sort of exclusive focus on "winning", rather than just creating a fun reason for people to get together and play a Star Wars game. I mean at tournaments, the fact that we are playing a Star Wars game isn't even a part of the experience, we may just as well skip the use of the models and use tokens to make the games more accurate and move faster as their aesthetics are a burden to tournaments in the way they are formatted.
I would personally like to see the tournaments be organized into a more "short campaign mode" where players are teamed up by faction, their is some sort of story to the tournament and their are strategic goals for the team and people can win together. Make it a more social event and experience rather than a cut-throat competition.

Unpopular opinions? That's my bread and butter.
Lets see.
1. X-Wing stopped being good after Wave 4. Up to that point it was a game about dog fighting, not dice manipulation and special actions/cards. Pretty much every list was viable at that point, after that it was downhill.
2. 2.0 was a let down. We went from one type of largely broken game to a different, albeit similar type of broken game. Its not the same problems, but the same type of issue.
3. Epic is the only fun way to play X-Wing.
4. Mirror matches (aka rebel vs. rebel etc..) should not be allowed in tournaments and severely frowned upon in house games.

I have a really terrible memory and I have so many sets that if I just continually play them in order, by the time I circle around I have virtually zero recollection about having ever played the quest before so I'm pretty much always playing something totally new every time I sit down to play. I also takes fairly significant breaks from the game periodically so I might go 3-4 months without playing at all, by the time I get back to it, I'm quite literally reading the rulebook to remember how to play.
I don't know if that is helpful, but it entertains me to tell that story.

Triple the Pelta, I'm in on that one.
This ship has become the staple of my list building and direct reason I'm doing considerably better in my matches and its really difficult to explain or justify when people ask why or how.
At this point, I don't think I would build a list without it.

Armada and Runewars both suffer from a basic design issue which is that the actual table time is where the least amount of the games strategy for resolving a game takes place. Its a game about List Building and Deployment/starting postion, most games can effectively be called before round 1 on those to merits alone for both games assuming both players are not entirely new.
Its always why lists in both games that are successful, by means of breaking out of those restraints, so for example in Armada first it was Corvette spam (mobility), then Flottila Spram (Activation advantage) and now its Raddus which again just go to mobility. Runewars has similiar list building tactics, aka, it's all about breaking out of the mechanic constraints of the system.
Legion I think is mechanically considerably less constraint, but in the same token it really suffers at the hands of lady luck. Much like X-Wing, even when running a perfectly executed strategy with percision, a couple of dice rolls don't go your way and you will lose anyway as the results can range from 0 losses, to an entire unit wipe with a single cast of the dice. That however I think is less of an issue, miniature war games are after all, at their core dice driven games so its kind of part of the charm of these games and at least the game is decided during the actual playing of it and not at list building.

There is kind of a strange assumption on this forum that competative and tournament play is what drives the game but the reality is that the overwhelming majority of Destiny players are casual, playing in small groups, collecting at a slow pace. I have been playing the game for a year and im yet to buy anything for the game at anything more than 50% off retail price. I don’t even consider for a second a new set that just released and i dont know anyone who does. We love Destiny but yeah, its waaaay to expensive to try and keep up. So i promise you that the bottom will not fall out. The vast majority of players are here and will buy up all of your cards... at. 10th of the price/value but you wont have any trouble selling them.

I have to admit that while I stopped playing X-Wing and was mildly excited about 2.0, even though I got the conversion kit, after sitting on my shelf for like 3 months I still have not even opened it and right now given an option of play X-Wing 2.0 or playing Armada as is, I would still rather play Armada.
Now that may just be preference, but truth be told, it took me a long time to become familiar and comfortable enough with Armada that I felt I knew what I was doing. If someone thrust a new rulebook and a whole new set of cards in a conversion kit for Armada today, personally I think it would end up in the same place that X-Wing 2.0 is... sitting on my shelf as a "maybe I will try it some day".
Perhaps its my age starting to rear its ugly head but I just don't feel the excitement of yet another "new" miniature game or "updated" version. I actually think the market has been saturated, which has taken the wind out of miniature gaming communities as a whole. In my circles the excitement for miniature games has died down very heavily and I think a lot of has to do with the fact that the hobby has become a never ending battle line of trying to keep up with the latest and greatest and the truth is that Armada didn't get good until they stopped pushing constant releases. I agree with whoever said that Armada is in a great place right now, its stable, balanced and barring a few OP things in the game that you can house rule, a very fair and interesting game space.
I do not believe however that the market can sustain Armada as a competitive game even with a 2.0. Generally the miniature games of today are becoming simpler, the games are becoming less about the game and more about the hobby, which is kind of where it started. Armada is a very complex game, its not something you can "just pick up", like Legion for example that has rules that fit on a cocktail napkin.
Personally I think the Armada community should brace themselves for a Runewars type announcement, its going to go the way of the doedoe bird and its going to happen very soon as in, we may already have seen the last thing that will ever be released for the game.

Well one thing I can say about Lord of the Rings the digital game is that they have done a great job with the atmosphere and theme of the game. The Voice overs, the writing, the story itself are all fantastic. If anything would sway me to dive in it would be that.

7 years is a good, long, healthy run for a modern LCG/CCG. The days of Magic The Gathering (we never close) have come and gone. Games just don't last that long anymore. My hope is that even when they announce the closure of the game (aka stop making new products), that they continue to do occasional reprints or offer some sort of print on demand. There is still a lot to collect for me and I would love to complete my set someday but part of the problem with Lord of the Rings was the machine gun rapid fire releases that made it difficult to keep up. I mean I don't have an LCG money tree... I buy when I can afford to and often when I can afford to things are out of print so its a bit of a pain. It would be great to get some more stability in the releases, like they really should try to focus on improving their method of matching the market consumption with their product.. It seems like there is always something missing from availability.

No offense but you represent everything that is wrong with internet/forum conversations. You don't read people's posts yet reply to them with a bunch of assumption about what they wrote then continue to do the exact thing you just accused them of doing.
I did not speak for anyone else but myself, I said "I" think and "I" predict. I am not projecting my concerns, I'm not assuming anyone else thinks what I do nor did I at any point suggest that anyone was agreeing with me.
You however have done only that, I still don't have no Idea what your opinion is, I only know what "your people" people think.

I wasn't speaking for everyone, I was very clearly speaking for myself, you on the other hand have pulled out the all mighty and always mysterious magical "people" that support your opinion.
The sealed deck concept is not a new concept, in fact, it is one of Garfield's greatest career failures that he has tried again and again to turn into a "thing". He has been shopping it around to publishers for the better part of two decades and he has been rejected by everyone until now because no one thought the concept could work. I will give it to FFG for being bold, but the reason no one else would touch is because it's very clearly a model that lives and dies as a competitive tournament game and everyone in the industry knows that tournaments are for marketing purposes only, you don't make money on tournament players, the real money is in getting acceptance by the vast majority of players who do not compete. Tournaments are just there to get people excited about playing the game.
Also and I can't stress this enough, FFG is going to get sued by Richard Garfield. It's not a question of if, it's just a question of when. The moment they do something he doesn't like with the game, he will drag FFG through every courtroom he can think of, the man has never done business with anyone who didn't end up getting sued by him.

This isn't really a big surprise to me and for what it's worth I concur with the aggression of the releases, it creates this weird environment as a consumer where it is often less of a question of interest and more a question of capacity when it comes to the collectable games. I mean, there are only so many play sessions per week/month, so if I'm playing Legion, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, there is no room for whatever the new thing is unless I cut something. When your invested in something... you feel a kind of obligation to keep up, stay current, which sort of makes you reluctant to start something new.
I think what FFG fails to realize is that the target audience is not that diverse. The same people that play X-Wing, play Armada, that play Legion, that play Destiny that play Game of Thrones etc.. These are the same communities. You can't have 10 lines going and expect that they will all find an audience or have some measure of success, but this isn't because they are bad games, quite to the contrary, I would love to play them all, but there is only so much budget and time to play them all so it's kind of a pick and choose thing.
I think at the heart of the problem for FFG and in turn to the people that sell the game is this kind of saturation of the player base.

We will have to agree to disagree when it comes to the mechanical depth of Destiny. 50% of the card pool is “remove a die, reroll a die or change die” in. Hundred different ways. That’s not diversity, that’s a game with an extremely limited design space. Destiny is a fun game, but it’s strategic depth is extremely limited especially considering how many sets are out already. It’s business model is at its core to blame for the inability to maintain an audience long term.
Also, like the overwhelming majority of people who play games, I have no interest in playing with strangers at the local game store nor fuss about with the 3rd party markets.

I firmly believe that Star Wars Destiny is one of the best card games ever made, that no one plays and I really blame the business model for this game.
There are basically 2 core issues.
1. Misunderstanding of the Audience. I'm sorry but Destiny should not be targeted as a competitive CCG and it should have never been marketed that way. This is a fun, casual, light hearted dice game. It has dice, it's pretty, it's Star Wars, it's quite literally a mass market game if you make the business model approachable. It should have been directed towards a much wider audience then elite collectors looking for competitive play. I know so many people who are not gamers who come to my house, want to play "one of my games", I put out Destiny and it's an instant hit. Then they ask "where can I buy it" and I explain to them the concept of a CCG, show them the cost... and conversation over. Just a swing and miss in the direction of this game, it should have never been a CCG.
2. Cost vs. functional design. Even as a fan of many collectable games, Destiny even with my shrimpy sized collection in which I have maybe 50% of the content, this is the single most expensive game I own by a very wide margin and that includes my Lord of the Rings LCG, X-Wing, Armada and Legion. Now I'm not saying its expensive to buy individual boosters or packs, what I'm talking about is collecting to "functional status". The design is such that you have to both collect cards and dice, but also "heroes & Villains" and its in the collection of these character cards and dice where much of the game falls apart. I have a crap ton of cards, but a very small amount of heroes and out of a collection of over hundreds of cards I have 5 heroes for which I have two dice for and having 2 dice for a hero is typically the functional point (or use point) of a character. With some exceptions, generally you need to have 2 copies of a character to use him in a deck in anything approaching a reasonably competitive deck. Now I'm sure people will argue to the contrary and I recognize that there are exceptions but a deck built around 2 dice is not effective and combining 3 heroes to make a 3 dice deck trims the options dramatically. What it boils down to is despite having spent 400 dollars the vast majority of my collection goes unused as I have 4 30 card decks that are what I would call "functional".
This design model is very discouraging. I have bought 4 super booster boxes and I still don't really have much of a collection to work with.
These two issues are only now being felt as players realize that each time a new expansion comes out, you are going to have to spend a 2-3 hundred dollars to collect even half of what you need to make a workable deck from that set and as the release is made, one of your set is dubbed "obsolete" which just adds salt to the wound. So you have a two prong problem. On the competitive side, it's expensive and difficult to collect to functionality, while on the casual side the same cost and difficulty are road blocks to entry.
The end result is you have to wonder, who is the audience here? Who are they expecting will buy into Destiny today with already several sets out, the collection of each set requiring 2-3 hundred dollars each.
