Ehm, Discussion aside, I'm for categories, too.
I didn't know how to reach a moderator, so I filled out the support contact forum and asked for forum categories.
-
I'm for forum subcategories, too. I really like this suggestion:
Rules & FAQ's
News
Tournaments
Gaming Reports
Custom Cards & Scenarios
Off-Topic
BUT.. I think with subcategories we all have to try very hard to open threads in the right subforum OR it actually has to be monitored by a forum moderator.
IF they would only grant 1 subcategory I vote for:
- Rules/FAQ

Well, I reeeally like the set icon symbol, very scary ^^
The scenario sounds interesting and I hope that they always keep the adventures varied in themes and challenges. I do have one question though. I don't understand Durin's Helm. Will a dwarf hero gets +2 hitpoints AND +1 defense or only the +2 hitpoints?

I liked reading the comments. It gave a quick first impression what others would think about the news or the product.

...I'd like to keep discussing the convention experience technically, because we can probably come up with a good, basic game set up for convention GM's that will get the most people interested.
I agree - I'm torn between using the "extra really cool stuff" but concerned that it will be too much for new players. For my game, I'll use the party sheet as party stress is integral to the scenario (the players are a bunch of misfits who don't know each other and they've been thrown into a stressful situation), plus I like rewarding the group for good team play with party fortune.
I think the game and the rules have to be extra simple for a convention. You have to imagine that most of the players on the convention play several games and I think the attention span will drop with advancing hours and games. I really like your summary, emirikol.
But I also know that there are some players who shy away from a too easy, simple game. So, emphasize the strengths of the game (for me thats the fast dice mechanism and the handy action cards that allow you to keep your mind on the roleplaying aspect), the difference to other roleplaying games, but keep reminding that's just the tip of the iceberg and one can integrate additional rules like mutation and corruption, a nemesis and so on.
Your rule explanation probably depends heavy on the group of players you have. If they have roleplay game experience or not.
If you know what adventure you will running and what generic characters you will use, you can give each character 1 build-in talent and maybe 1 unique action card and some of the basic action cards that can be useful in the adventure.

I just posted a positive review on amazon.de for the core game ^^ Its not much, but hey, little steps here and there, right?

I really like the game system. Our group is a mixture of absolute roleplay beginners and old veterans - and we all like it very much. Played all adventures and are down to Crimson Rain and Blackfirepass. And we are not the only ones. There was a lot of excitment in our local game shops, when the dwarfen supplement finally arrived ^^ Several play groups were waiting on it.
I sure hope that the constant flow of adventures don't end, cause that is one of the main things I like about the system. There is always new material or a new adventure waiting in the future.

I'm so excited about the new supplement Black Fire Pass ^^ I'm playing a male dwarf and I want him to be a apprentices runesmith as soon as possible. We have a female dwarf character in our party as well and of course my character wants to court her. What better way than to gift her a precious runic item. I thought about a talisman rune with something that helps first aid, cause she is our healer.
Long story short, what do you think would make a good first aid rune? I want to have some suggestions for our GM and I'm not sure what is all possible with runes. And what would it cost to make a ring with juwels (talisman for the rune)? In the book it says a item for a rune has to be of superior quality, but I'm not sure how that applies to talisman.

Thanks for the feedback so far, its really nice to see the interest ^^
I will add backsides for the cards, good idea, doom. And for pumpkin:
1. You mean, it should read "Forced" instead of "Response"? Yeah, I think, you're right.
2. No error. Guarded 2 just means, its guarded by two cards ^^ But I don't know if this makes it too difficult.
3. The intending is, that the heroes have to hide. To put this into mechanics, means that they cannot fight orcs, but more and more orcs are swarming the mirkwood forest, the combined thread of the orcs rises and it get much harder to hide (to quest). But I noticed that you cannot defeat this stage if you lose Elrond's Message and it gets guarded by orcs. Because of that, I added the note that you can fight the orcs that guard Elronds' Message. I don't know how I can express this better. Any suggestions?
I didn't playtest it solo or with more than 2 players yet. I think, you are right about the higher difficulty for more than 2 players. The Northern tracker is very good for this stage ^^

Hey everyone,
I followed Ninjadorgs example and used his psd files (thanks ^^) to make my own scenario. It is not perfect and I think needs lots of testing, but maybe someone is up to the task ^^
You can find it here on my new blog: http://www.3auglein3.de
The scenario is in english and german. I hope, you can give me lots of feedback.

Thanks for the font adivce ^^
I'm close to the testing phase for my first scenario. What fonts did you use for the main text? Is this MentorSans Std, too? I can't find one looking good in a small font-size.

This is perhaps a dumb question but how do PSDs files work? >.>
psd files are files from Adobe Photoshop, but you can open them with some free graphic programs as well. Like Gimp ^^
Thanks for the files, ninjadorg. The scenarios are a great idea and I'm tempted to make some myself. One question: which fonts did you use?

This is quite an interesting discussion. Actually in the german version the two card effects are worded completely different.
The Beastmaster reads: "Wenn der Bestienmeister angreift..." translated "When the beastmaster attacks"
whereas Ufthack reads: "lege einen Ressourcenmarker auf Ufthack nachdem er angegriffen hat" - translated "after he has attacked"
so we played that the beastmaster gets two shadow cards and Ufthack gets his first token after his first attack with a strength of 3
of course it could be that the translation into german is wrong but for me these effects make sense that way

This is really a very nice and helpful fanzine ^^ And so much to read ^^ I especially like the analyse of the action cards and the 'playing non-heroic careers' part.
I also love the custom made cards. The eons plug-in is great by the way

Are you guys open for suggestions regarding new card plug-ins? I wish I could edit the agenda and stability names on the nemesis cards. And I would be very happy if you would add a family sheet option from the edge of night cards *hope*

In light of a possible dwarf supplement book, I suggest Dwarfen Clan Sheets. Every dwarf player knows how important the clan is for his/her dwarf and that doesn't change, when the dwarf leaves the karaz and goes on adventures. Especially when they go on adventures to gather glory and wealth for the clan.
Reputation and tradition are very important to dwarfs. Why not give the fellow dwarf player a Dwarfs Clan Sheet to show his stand in his clan community? Much like the political favour sheets from Edge of Night. A tracker could progress if the dwarf experiences honorable quests, slays many greenskins, sends money and artifacts back to his karaz and helps other dwarfs. Rewards could be the option to learn Tradescraft. Only two careers have this skill, but it is so very important for every dwarf, because nearly every dwarf learns a craft from his clan.

Greetings from Austria and Germany. We want the pdf, too!
Bonus career as pdf would also be nice. I'm dying to play a "normal" dwarf career ^^ Every dwarf fan will buy the upcoming product anyway.

Try Erdenstern. It's a german music group, specialized in soundtracks (no lyrics) for roleplaying games. Some film soundtracks tend to play themself very much in the foreground, which can be annoying sometimes, but Erdenstern is perfect just for ambient in the background ^^

Quick question, is there a character keeper/character box in the toolkit? Just like the three in the core set to store cards and other components.

Ah, thanks for the help. Any Chance to recreate the decorative bar from Warhammer? The fence looks great, too, I think.

Hi,
I was wondering, if anyone tried to create own character stands. In the coreset is not much to choose and I miss a good dwarf picture.

I have a rules question about the Dreamers beginning ability.
It says on page 10 that if the dreamer only choose Imagination as her iconic trait, she can "for each single Imagination that such a Dreamer expends, she may generate an imagining as if she had expended two Imagination". My question is, does that mean for 2 Imagination points she can pull of a Level 4 Imagining? Or does the ability only refer to 1 Imagination for Level 2?
A little help or answer how you in your group solved it, would be gladly appreciated.
by the way... I managed to roughly translate some of the rules to 20 pages of german short rules if anyone is interested. I used it to explain my players the rules of GRIMM.

I have a question about the Stuffed Animal and its features. One player of my group has chosen one of My little Ponies, so I took the traits of the horse npc (Grade 4th). But in the description of the Stuffed Animal it says that the animal "should only have a personal grade level no higher than the number of grade levels of Imagination you expended to awaken it".
So, how do I alter the traits of the horse? What should I lower besides the personal grade level? Only the wounds?
Little sidenote for those who're interested: I gave the My little Pony the soft spot of the fairies.

What heroes would you like to see?

I'd like to see a few more invented characters like Eleanor and Berevor. Firstly it would be weird if they ended up as the only ones not taken from the books, and secondly to spread out the release of the more famous heroes.
I strongly agree. I really like the new characters and I'm very curious what FFG could come up with. I think there is nothing wrong with venture a little bit away from the books storyline and heroes, but staying close to its heart and core feeling of the Middle Earth World.
Also, I would love to see a second version of Eowyn. I was a little sceptical about the two Aragorns, but now I like the idea. For some characters in the book it could work (not for everyone). Eowyn has two aspects as well. She is not only a shieldmaid and quester, but a brave fighter. So maybe a tactics Eowyn would be possible ^^ Or maybe I like her too much
