  1. It appears that the date for the NYC regional may be changing. FFG apparently scheduled all of the NYC LCG regionals for the same date at the same store, and the store can't handle six at once (nor can players play in more than one at the same time). Stay tuned.
  2. Ravncat said: It's very tactical. Strategy comes from the deck design. I want to echo this sentiment. You form a strategy when you build your deck -- you design it to work a certain way or accomplish certain goals in a particular manner. Once the game starts, accomplishing your goals is a matter of tactics. While games can be short, they always hinge on important tactical decisions.

So not only am I expected to have spent $80 for two core sets to build a competitive deck, and pay whatever entry fee to get into the tournament, but I have to shell out for card sleeves too? typically yes, to avoid marking issues I assume. FFG requires opaque-backed sleeves in AGoT tournaments, so I assume SWLCG will be the same. Sleeves don't have to be opaque or solid any longer. New tournament rules for agot allow for clear or even art sleeves. Some shops still have "house rules" that require opaque solid sleeves, but not FFG. Yep, that's right -- I got mixed up.

  5. For what it's worth, tournament rules will probably require it.
  6. I have a small meetup on Thursday nights in Midtown. It used to be just AGoT LCG, but we have branched out and I'm pushing Star Wars hard! I'll send a PM your way with details.
  7. Once a product is on a boat, the estimate is usually correct. If I had to guess, I'd say it'll be in stores the week of March 18
  8. FFG is trying to upload them to the webpage, but they keep getting timed out with gateway 504 errors
  9. Hohe said: I beleive Martell isn't included in the core set tho, right? Thats correct. I suggested Martell specifically because you said you like to play defensively and with elements of control. Martell is heavy with control effects, and their house keyword, "vengeful," centers on effects that trigger when you lose challenges. A Martell opponent can find himself in a tough spot where he needs to make challenges to win, but will actually improve the Martell player's game position by doing so.
  10. I have a few friends who play locally, but with all the people in NYC, there should be more! I'd love to grow/join a strong meta here!
  11. Solely based on your description of your preferred play style, it sounds like Martell would be a good fit for you.
  12. I'll give just a few thoughts on how it differs from magic, for the better IMO. 1) you will always begin each game with at least 4 resources (the currency, if you will, that you need to play cards) in play. So while you'll still have to build some resources into your draw deck, you'll always be able to play some cards right out of the gates. 2) instead of drawing one card at a time per turn, during each draw phase, you draw back up to 6 (unless some card effect modifies that number). That means you have much more control over how fast you go through your deck -- if you need to see more cards, play more between one draw phase and the next. This adds a novel strategical aspect. 3) instead of nebulously attacking your opponent, your units will attack your opponent's objective cards (the destruction of which is important to winning the game). Your opponent's units will defend the objective, which will lead to great clashes between familiar characters. The battle mechanic itself is very exciting, with a unique mechanism called an "edge battle" -- a system of bidding and bluffing -- that will determine who can strike first, and how much of your units' potential strength will be a available during the battle. All told, the game is well designed, mechanically sound, and a lot of fun to play.
  13. I understand the RAW argument for #1, but I too think it goes against designer intent, and I bet it will come down the other way in the FAQ.

  16. Interestingly, I appreciate the +/- for the same reason. We can probably all agree that Meera is, if not the best card in the game, an obvious A+. 2c1c rated Missendi an A-, which I agree with for the reasons stated on the cast. So what happens if we eliminate the +/-? Certainly, we can't call Missendi and Meera both A's. But if you compare Missendi to other cards that get a B, I think there's a plain disparity. IMO, the +/- are necessary for these subtleties.
  17. playgroundpsychotic said: The only issue I have with it is that Warhammer and CoC are now getting less cards per year. If GoT went the same path I would like to see either bigger or more frequent boxes. Agree. If we got one 180 card box (60 distinct cards 3x each) every 3 months (instead of 4), we'd be getting th same number of cards per year as we currently get with 1 ch pack per month. Seems like that would be a win win.

Used in most plot decks, arguably the single most powerful card in the game. Character = Khal Drogo. I think core Drogo is used in many, if not most, Targ decks. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure the same can be said of another core character. Location = Golden Tooth Mines. Excellent reliable draw, even OOH with the alliance plot. Event = probably Seductive Promise. That's hard though, very deck specific. Attachment = Flame-kissed. Still one of the best attachments in the game because of the ambush + terminal effect. One card to rule = Valar, see above. Wow, nailed it except for the character I think. Character = Maester Aemon There are a lot of great characters in the core set, but Aemon is probably the most prolific. He's in 234 decks on AGoT cards compared to 170 for Khal Drogo, 157 for Enemy Informer, 100 for Jaime, 95 for Robert, and 51 for Melisandre. but just for fun, what are the ratios? Remembering that Aemon can be used by any house and Drogo is Targ only, Drogo = 170/Total Targ vs. Aemon = 234/Total All. Proportionally, Drogo's number will be much higher I bet. That said, i bet that Aemon is more prevalent in Maester decks than Drogo is in Targ decks. So its not like there's a qualitatively correct answer .
  19. You cannot choose a card to fulfill an effect if it is immune to that effect a common example is when Power of Blood is a revealed plot card and you lose a military challenge on defense and have a noble character in play. You must kill another character for claim -- you cannot choose the noble character and then avoid claim entirely bc the noble character cannot be killed.
  20. Keep in mind, too, that he STR must be raised above 0 during the save/cancel step of be action window in which Incinerate was played. That's why the list of possible saves from burn is so small. "Any Phase" actions or non-save/cancel responses that raise the character's STR won't cut it.

I have provided a few category breakdowns to help the discussion below: Most Valuable (Most Valuable Plot) = _______________________ Most Valuable Character = _______________________ Most Valuable Location = _______________________ Most Valuable Event = _______________________ Most Valuable Attachment = _______________________ The one card to rule them all = _______________________ Istaril is correct I think, but ill give my opinions nonetheless. As Dan noted in another thread, the NYC meta is doing league play with restrictive deckbuilding rules: basically, any deck can use the core set, one deluxe box, 2 CP cycles, and the current partial CP cycle. All agendas, regardless of source, are legal. I don't think it has done much. The same strong builds are still strong, if less efficient. At the same time, the restrictions perhaps have made other builds that are not T1 competitive within he league. For example, I've been doing well with a dragon build that could never compete in a tourney in the current environment.
  23. It must be immediate - Sorrowful Man's response is to the character entering play, so it must be triggered during the action window in which the character enters play. If it is not triggered then, the response opportunity is lost. So if he has a card in shadows and 2 influence standing, you would be wise to play the character before the attachment.
  24. If you're willing to come into manhattan, check out www.meetup.com/thrones . we play every Thursday night at 7, A Game of Thrones LCG and Star Wars LCG.
  25. I understand there is a playgroup at 20 Sided Store in Brooklyn, maybe they have one in the works? Some of the NYC AGoT LCG meta is picking up Star Wars, and I for one would love to play in an NYC regional if it happens!
