Idk, I think you'll see alot of the neutrals repeated in the expansions. I mean what is there, shield wall? Terrifying Heraldry? The cool trumpet that makes turns not cost movement? Heck we already see the trumpet in the Elf box so I am thinking you'd be able to get what you need.

I am usually a smart ass and a skeptic, but I think they really are going to make sure you don't need to buy out of faction stuff...

You don't really need a core. Buy someones extra dice, templates and upgrades. I have 3 cores and I would gladly sell the extra terrain, templates, deployment and mission cards. The dice should be a 7 pack and you'll probably get the upgrade cards in the elf units...

Three Heroscape fans. We are legion!
I'm glad there's almost no faction mixing. I played Attack Wing (sorry for the heresy SW fans) and the faction mixing in OP led to exactly the kind of exploitative, munchkin play that kills theme and the games themselves.

Who cares? Just do it. You really think that anyone here has only FFG stuff? I am a huge fan of IA but that doesn't mean I am not buying my maps from a 3rd party to save about 80% on each.  And no one will every give you grief for using a properly sized 3rd party mat.

TLDR; Not something that is worth getting upset over, amigo...

I have to say that 3D terrain, while nice looking, might not be a good choice for this game.

Normally if you collide with a terrain obstacle, you check to see that pieces capacity and if you can fit you go in. Now I suppose you could have flags that represent units and put matching flags with the unit trays that are in 3d terrain off the board, but using the terrain from the box set seems far easier...

For terrain that can by occupied, the key thing is to make sure it can fit the actual trays, either through having the actual clear space from the get go, or being modular so parts can be removed (as suggested by FFG in the Runewars Lear to Play book).
Of the four terrain that units can enter in the core (Crumbling Wall, Stone Terrace, Swamp, and Forest), to my mind only Forest would present the most creative opportunities to accomodate unit trays.
If I were building a 3D version of the forest now, I would sit the actual terrain cutout underneath it and remove the 3D part when a unit enters, replacing it when it leaves...

I would not expect a store to support a game if people are just looking for ways to not buy the product. That is what kills games, I don't care if it hurts people's feelings, if you like what ffg is doing here but don't feel like giving them money because you already have a skeleton horde from game x and just plan on using it with some crap you printed out on the Internet than go play something else.  I'm not going to rationalize that I have a crap ton of Pokémon cards so I should just be able to proxy them for magic cuz well they are the same size.  So I really down care about your rationalization for why you don't want think you should have go support this game.  I have watched a lot of game stores close because people don't support stores and this is just another way to kill off game stores.  And I have never in the twenty plus years of playing these games come across people so adamantly against supporting a game they claim to be excited about.  If you don't plan on playing the game then just shut up and don't play it. And if you are planning on playing the game with your Mantic or gw or my little ponies model because you don't think you should have to buy into the game because you already have one company money for their undead models why give another company money for their undead models, then you aren't planning on actually playing the game so also shut up and don't play.  I'm tired of this rant resurfacing but it never seems to go away...he is the simple fact of miniature games hobby: if you play at a store support that store, if you play a game support that games company, if you don't then soon the game store or game won't exist and it will be partially your fault.

True, but it makes them public enemy #1. How easy will it be to intercept with your own infantry platform, lock 'em down, and send your high-health units off after other objectives? It sounds good, but it's definitely going to inspire a lot of counterplay by your opponent. I think the real winner will be the player that can take advantage of the mind games resulting from an Executioner on the field.

Let's be honest...by the time you buy a few expansions and your second core you'll have enough trays that you can sort the ones you feel are better fits. This is going to be like X-Wing bases....you'll have a hundred of the damned things

    Yes.

    First rank = 0 rerolls
    Second Full rank = 1
Third full = 2 (including re-re-rolling what you just re-rolled)  - The idea is that units with more ranks mean more consistent results. Wider units mean more damage (Hits * Threat)

They are easy to move. We played last night on 2 xwing mats and found them just fine to move and remove from damage.
The ones at Adepticon fit tightly because the basing / painting wasn't sanded off of the sides and caused the fit to be a little closer than designed.

Thank you for the explanation Rowdy.  I wouldn't feel they lied, more just were inconsistent, but again, that is fully ok now.  i run events for a living and Adepticon would be no easy task.  It was a spectacular convention.  And Deep dish Pizza, Polish Food then insanely delicious mac & cheese + good beer at a Death metal restaurant sealed the icing on the cake about returning next year.  chicago was a blast.
My stuff arrives tomorrow (I had to mail it home).  Thanks again  to all of you for the generosity.  cheers to everyone on this thread for letting me vent. Painted pics on the way ASAP!

I was an Adepticon attendee and was able to receive a box in my swag bag to begin my journey. I love the system and was able to trade for a 2nd core set so that I can do full-army demos.  What you guys did was fantastic and I look forward to helping support this great game.

This is not true.  Each accuracy allows you to assign a single mortal strike, or enough hits to cause a single wound to a normally untargetable model.
