I wish they did this a long time ago. I used to buy stuff for the game but stopped due to not having anyone that wanted to play.
Got rid of my collection after reading the Aftermath novels and watching The Last Jedi killed my love of Star Wars.
Solo rules at the start would have caused me to spend a small fortune on the game. Now it makes me mildly interested in trying but not enough to make me want to spend money on Star Wars products.

    Thx FFG, most welcome.
I am definitely going to test it. This is the form of X-wing we have most fun with together in the family. Several of my children and me together against an AI controlled opponent. Often some story as well. Also a welcome interrupt of the boring cutthroat 400/6 deathmatch at the club. With a headstory also less temptation to choose non-optimal for the AI, you want to have suspense. Of course with the smaller children sometimes the AI fudges a bit, still.
While it looks less "intelligent" and more random than the HotAC AI I will certainly test it.
Also, eagerly awaiting a test and mistakes ;) by Shuttle Tydirium, @heychadwick

Episode 115: Dawn of the Dornean Gunship
This episode, we talk about the recent epic ship previews, covering the CR90 expansion!  We also have a couple of debates between the crew about what information players should ahve when they're flying HotAC or FGA missions, and how many points you should be allowed to spend on your lists!

I am a bit frustrated that I haven't gotten to fly the Red Baron yet.  We had a tornado cancel game night.  Then snow.  The few times we have had game night, we played Flight Group Alpha, and no one wanted a game after that.   It would be really  nice to actually get to play with my new ship.
I think I will use it as a regular Interceptor tomorrow night for Flight Group Alpha.

That was 1st Ed Epic.   Non-tournament 2nd Ed (which includes Epic Battles) means you can have as many whatever as you want.   No limit.

Absolutely agree with this!  I have always liked to have at least half a list of generics as too few ships really makes me feel vulnerable.  I also think that the init bid is crap.   Once you learn to fly generics it really can become easy to knock out ace players.  Blocking is an underappreciated tool.  If I have a game with 3 or fewer blocks, I am doing it wrong or failing horribly.

That's my general idea. The Raider has the unique ability to individually overwhelm the green dice; one bad roll, and you're in troubled waters. Those tokens don't hold forever. When there are only two Defenders left, the Huge Ship is in a much stronger position: I regenerate two shields per round, whereas you will average 4 to six damage, depending on range.

Went to a store championship, played against a list with vader, marek, and 2 sienar specialists. I have luke, Thane, Dutch+proton torpedoes, and a grey squadron bomber with an ion cannon turret.
•opponent moves along his deployment zone, gunning for thane.
•thane arc dodges 3 of 4 arcs, however, they all lock him.
•next turn, a sienar pilot lands on a rock while trying to catch thane. My squad collapses in on it, and kills it. The other generic and vader have no shot, but Marek has a range three, obstructed, unmodded shot at luke (remember, he locked thane) he rolls 2 natrual hits, and I roll 4 blanks. Shields down on luke. Next turn, the furball starts. The remaining generic is at range one of all of my ships, except dutch, who has range 2 for a proton torpedoes, and has no defensive mods
    •Vader overshot, has no shot
    • thane shoots, 4 blanks, target locked+focus into 3 hits
    2 evades, 1 damage
    •luke shoots, target locked+force for 4 hits.
    3 evades, 1 damage
•marek shoots, takes shields off of thane
•dutch fires proton torpedoes, 1 hit, 2 blanks, 1 eyeball. used target lock for 2 hits total
    3 evades, 0 damage
•sienar specialist shoots at thane. 3 crits. Thane blanks out, thane gets a direct hit. Thane is dead.
All in all, I did 2 damage with 2 double modded 4 dice shots + 1 single modded 4 dice shot, and lost a full thane for my trouble.
I want to know all your tales of dice that you've been to afraid to post on the forums!

The lack of boost is definitely a hindrance when trying to bait. Without extra jousting support you probably had to keep him back and wait for them to overcommit I assume? I  personally don't like scorch because his time on target is abysmal, but I wouldn't bring him unless I had extra ships for the 'joust' anyways.
Oh, I don't mean vs other generics. I mean in regular play vs the field. Such as learning solo AB Vader's with Ahsoka.
It really expands your mind on what ships are capable of.
Also most people run higher ps and just joust anyways.

I like Fanatical/Optics BO, although I'm shocked you spend focus on offense if you're getting shot at. I assume he had to be your flanker as it's hard to flank with all of your ships, so eventually your opponents will get shot.
    As for my confused react:
AO on low initiative gives you perfect information on using the focus. So you spend the focus on defense if you can, preserving your points, otherwise you're almost guaranteed to be able to use that focus action on offense.  If you spend the focus on offense with a higher initiative ship, you're going to end up rolling eyeballs on defense, losing points/a ship. And vs skilled opponents, they'll get shots on you even if you move after them.
I'm also a strong proponent that people should learn to fly lower initiative ships. Keep wide arcs for better chance of shots. Block. Predict your opponent.

I agree with Advanced Optics on low Init pilots.  I have traditionally used them on regular Tie Fighter Epsilon Cadets at Init 1.  Use the Focus for defense if you need to, but if you aren't being shot at, you can either use the Focus for modding your dice to hits....or changing a  blank to a hit.   How often do you fire and get a Hit and a Blank?  Too often for me.
In fact, I think it works better for the First Order Tie Fighters as you can get more ships.  More ships means more ships with Focus and Adv Optics.  It means more ships that are not shot at and will have their Focus to translate the attack into a hit.  29 pts for each ship is pretty cheap.  Even if you just put 3 of them in a list and a bunch of better ships, you can do a lot with them.
I just checked the probability calculator for 2 attack dice with a Focus and Adv Optics and you get:  0% of zero hits; 18.7% of 1 hit; 81.2% of 2 hits.  That's pretty impressive for a 29 pt ship.  It also gives a lot of ships to Phasma to bounce damage to.

I'm a big fan of Advanced Optics on generic SFs - it makes their two dice attacks remarkably consistent, and the double arcs gives them great time on target and makes them harder to arc dodge than most low Initiative ships.
As other people have said above, Optics on mass is really efficient on low Initiative ships. You're only likely to spend your focus defensively on one ship unless your opponent is splitting their fire (which is probably a win for you anyway), which leaves your ships firing last free to spend their focus to maximum effect.
In general I like Advanced Optics more than Fanatical on the SF. Don't get me wrong, Fanatical is a fantastic upgrade, but the SF has a poor shield to hull ratio to get the most benefit from it.

Optics is better at low initiative, normally people will try to focus down one ship so having AO + Focus on the others guarantee you using the focus (unless you roll natties) and knowing that you won't need it for defence. In FO the only high I ship I would use AO on is Kylo, due to having force.

For the old "Epic" format in 1st edition the upper limit for a certain ship type was 12 (and 8 for non Epic play), thus only 12 TIE/ln back then, after that you had to field other ships, if you wanted to field more ships. But that was then.
As of now in 2nd edition we have the limit of 2-8 for the vanilla 400/6 deathmatch (thus simultaneously giving the upper limit of 8 for a certain ship) where as the new Epic format (with or without Huge ships participating) seems to have no limit.

First, let me say that they have changed the naming convention.   Epic now means games played with the Epic Battles scenario boxed set.  That's the one that includes all the stuff for Wings and is a great buy at only $25.   Huge ships are now what is called when you are talking about the really big ships.  They aren't "epic ships" anymore.   Just FYI.
When people first get into Huge battles, they always want to bring out their Huge ships and gear them up towards fighting other Huge ships.   That means they usually put too many points on them and don't gear them up to fight small fighters.   So, I would say that you are in a really good spot to play with them!   Just remember that they regen shields each round.   You will have to keep up firing on them.   Don't let them run you over.   They can die if you really concentrate fire on them.

If I take Lock as my Action, then fire my Battery, do I lose the second lock from the battery because I already have one?
If I do spend my Action lock, can I get another Battery Lock, or is that prohibited by "only one action of the same type each round?
Similarly, if I have 2 teams that give a linked Calculate, can I get 2 Calculates per round?
Lastly, I can find the rules about measuring distances for Huges.  We were in a L shaped confrontation last night--the fronts were too close for Turbolasers, but if we measure rear to rear, range was OK.  How does that work?
P.S.  This was from practicing for Team Epic last night.  Huges are super fun!!!
P.P.S.  I pounded by bro's corvette to dust with my corvette.   But his B-Wings worked out fine.

I like a variety.  Ships like the GR-75 and Gozanti have a harder time in death matches.  There are also a ton of upgrades that don't have a place in death matches, as you have been categorizing.  It is interesting to me to have a game that requires more thought than just "kill kill kill".

On the plus side, we did play FGA tonight.  Civil War campaign, mission #2.  Four of us flying Tie Bombers trying to stop some Firesprays blow up a base.  It was a lot of fun and the dice were a little crazy.  In the end, half of us were shot down (Including me - it was the **** Concussion Missile Scyks!).  We even managed to finish it with Gold Star objectives complete!
I think 4 people might be the best way to play the game.  More is too many and fewer is not enough.
