Legend of the Five Rings for me please! I'd be stoked to see Star Wars too.

As a monk fan, I very much hope Dragon goes Keeper. So many shenanigans possible with Keeper Initiates.

I asked my local store to order a playmat for me, and after some digging they told me that Alliance Game distributors hasn't gotten it yet. The only shops selling it right now are online stores buying directly from Asmodee (which local shops can't do). For all their talk of helping the local stores, it seems that Asmodee isn't all that concerned (not that that comes as a surprise).
I know posting here won't change anything, but I figured I'd let others know.

DarwinsDog reacted to Ishi Tonu in Rookery variant for L5R
In theory that's what sideboarding does, but in a game like this, where the gap In card quality/options between the top decks and the bottom decks is currently rather large, sideboarding does little to improve overall parity and balance.
If I'm not playing a top deck, I'm already going to build a deck in a way that I feel gives me the best chance to beat the top decks.  Little to nothing in my sideboard will improve my match up vs the top decks because that is naturally who I should be trying to build around.  I can improve my match ups vs weaker decks, but what's the point?
Sideboarding works in some games. In not sure it will in L5R.  As it stands now, I'm doubtful it would have any positive impact.  The card pool is relatively small so I'm not convinced that a sideboard could even be filled properly as the decks that are being built are already pretty tight on space.  Maybe later when there are more cards?

On the other hand, the counter-meta may be weak against other clans so they will beat the meta, but lose to everyone else. A side board would allow people to run a few counter cards without weakening their other matchups.
I don't have enough experience to know which is more likely, but I can see both sides of the argument.

Well, I'm not happy about 6 in 6, but I refuse to buy into the "sky in falling" mentality. I do agree that they should release them all at once in that case, but *shrug*. In the end I get the same number of cards, and the ones previewed look like they will be good for the game.
The ratling already has a home in my crab deck, and everyone can be happy about Yoritomo!

DarwinsDog got a reaction from HuwBacca in A very good thing? Descent out of stock again?
I think that Descent 3rd is inevitable, but the question is when will be the right time? For now, the app is driving sales pretty well. SoN sold out everywhere almost immediately after the new RtL campaign was announced. I expect they'll continue to release new content for that for some time. $5 for new campaigns (unless they require a box expansion), maybe a new game mode, and more expansive campaigns. It seems like they are getting more creative with how to use the app.
Eventually, though, the sales will slow down. That's when 3rd edition will come out. Every long running game with lots of content does the same thing eventually. Warhammer, DnD, Magic, etc. That's just the way the business works. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there are already some design documents out there. I expect it will have app integration from the ground up and the turn order from IA and RtL. I do hope they find a way to keep the option of having either a human or computer overlord. A lot of people didn't like the change in MoM, and I expect even more enjoy being the OL in Descent.

Every game I've ever played has these people in the online community.  The sky is always falling and the game will be dead by next month.  At least L5R has fewer of the "I'm quitting, pay attention to me" posts than most games.

DarwinsDog got a reaction from Gridash in What if Descent had personal quests for each hero, like Imperial Assault?
I would like to see something like that, and we very well may in Descent 3e (whenever that is). It could also work with the RtL app. It could even be worked into the main game via the rumor deck.
I think the main issue (in terms of theme and continuity) is that in IA, the character and class are tied together. In Descent they are separate. I know that doesn't change the back story, but I can see it making less sense with some combinations.

The description of peace tokens on page 10 is clear about that (emphasis mine)
There are several ways to remove a peace token, so the rule you mentioned doesn't mean they are completely protected. It just ways that they don't expire or leave play on their own.

DarwinsDog got a reaction from Charmy in Reviving a hero and counting spaces
I found 2 mentions in the rule book that talk about hero tokens and what they represent.
So the space still has a hero, just represented by a token.
    and...
The token is treated as a hero when being targeted by a healing ability, so that would seem to satisfy Mok's requirement of a hero within 3 spaces being healed.

I'm personally leaning towards 13 to give a nod to the original game. I won't say it's my favorite since it's really hard to compare the original games with the new ones, but it is the one that got me into the franchise. What vault are you using and why?

DarwinsDog got a reaction from MythicalMothman in 'Miscellaneous Junk' card usage...
Take a look at "Shopping" and "Shop" in the RR. Only the shop action says to add a fifth card, however under shop it says that you add/discard to 4 cards at the end of any round. So you replace the card taken from junk at the end of the round, but don't add a new card before choosing.

DarwinsDog got a reaction from The Cocky Rooster in SoC suffering random conditions [minor spoilers]
That's what one of my players was arguing. Basically it comes down to that it means to "suffer" a condition. To me, Ispher can't suffer poison, and therefore will not be suffering three conditions as stated in the app.
It works for the first hero, assuming no one else has any conditions. After that you have different numbers of cards for each condition.

Debating between 13 and 21.  Fallout 3 was my first foray into the series, but between that and New Vegas I was hooked on post-apocalypse settings for good.  New Vegas was one I enjoyed a heck of a lot more for sure, but the Vault 21 jumpsuit you get there isn't as iconic as 13 or 101.  Flip side is I never played Fallout 1 to completion.  I'll probably wind up going with 13, though, just because it's more recognizable and pays better homage to the series as a whole.

DarwinsDog got a reaction from Jadorel in Couple of questions after first play
1: Yes, anyone can do any quest. It breaks up the narrative and immersion a bit, but that's the way it is. If you're in it for the story, stick to solo mode.
2: Yes, monsters can move out of their hexes. If they reach a face-down hex they treat it as one space (see the RR under activating enemies). They will follow the survivors from one end of the map to the other (and back again).
3: When you gain any card that can be equipped, it can either be equipped immediately or go into your inventory. You can't sell them. You can indeed swap an exhausted companion for a ready one. It will remain exhausted until you camp.
4: You just need to have the right token to recruit them (SPECIAL or status token) and an available shop action
5: Wasteland encounters often give caps, quests sometimes do, and selling loot. They're not necessarily easy to come by, but they're out there. Most of the time, you just have to explore the wastes, loot, and sell it.

Jade tetsubo returns all fate to the owner's pool. Embrace the Void interrupts and instead sends all that fate to your own pool. It's not limited to interrupting 1 of the fate, it just is limited to activating once, which is why a ability like tetsubo's which removes all the fate from the character makes it a good combo.
