Have any GMs experimented with different spec costs?
HappyDaze replied to Bellona's topic in Game Masters
They are supposed to get crazy expensive because once you buy in, the first few talents are always crazy cheap (5xp each). This is intended to create an opportunity cost to prevent constant specialization hopping and to slow character growth beyond the lines of a character's core concept (most core concepts are fairly well fleshed out after 3 or so specializations, if you need more than that, you might not be leaving room for other PCs to shine). -

Along this line, we have: perhaps "Don't take off the helmet" is an incorrect translation. It should be "don't show your face." I'm drawing a parallel of beliefs and how they can be considered absolute or flexible, but even the absolutes tend to break when they don't bend. -

I think it's much like those that subscribe to beliefs such as "thou shalt not kill," but find that they need to make exceptions, sometimes lots of them. -

I can absolutely understand why a place packed with so many people and so few refreshers needs to keep track of who has IBS. -

Remember the arguments that not all Imperials are evil, some are just misguided patriots? Well, Operation Cinder is pretty much the way to do away with those guys and just leave the ones that are rotten to the core. It's a way to make the Empire less nuanced, and some people like that, especially when you're selling stories of massive violence being done to these guys on a regular basis. -
I hope they can pull of a better Ranger-based spinoff than the Babylon 5 franchise did...

Does a voice-only actor ever need to be on set? Seems like he could put his work in after everything is shot.

On anything of Silhouette 4+, when/if possible, get to an escape pod. They exist for a reason. There are also grav chutes for bailing out in an atmosphere, and it should be safer than riding a plummeting (and possibly burning) rock to the ground.

That's what happens when you send a Vorta back in time and away from his shapeshifting gods.

For the briefest of moments, I had hope that we would be seeing a Star Trek series focused on the homeworld of the blue-skinned dudes with antennae. Instead we get...a prequel story to another dead character.

This seems to be the fate of PCs' ships. The depreciation the moment they fly off the lot of character gen is just terrible.

If you are not familiar with the era, I'd suggest running something you're more comfortable with. Optionally, delay the start of the game until you have the time to research it and raise your comfort level.

Building a Character “Wrong”.

The FFG SW system does allow social characters to be super awesome since winning those opposed checks generally gets you what you want (and more with Advantage/Triumph, complications with Threat/Despair). The system is less vague in this way than many other systems, which means powergamers can min-max for social power and the rules support it. A super-social character can bend almost anyone to their will without even using the Force. If they do have the Force and the Influence power to add on Success/Advantage for the tougher checks, then things can get crazy really quickly. -
Oh, it's out there, and hopefully you'll know it when you see it. It's really for the best to have a safeword ready, just in case...

Using your formula, Silhouette 2 beings and Silhouette 0 beings are both stronger than Silhouette 1 beings. I do not think this is your intended result.

You know this how? Is there a definitive source on how the astrophysics of Star Wars operate? If there is, how often is it ignored just for the needs of a story. Sorry, but Star Wars has abandoned almost all of its sci-fi trappings at this point and is almost entirely pure fantasy. The Force practically allows for faerie mushroom circles to transport people across space and time, and for all we know, that's how the rest of the galaxy works too. -

Is there anything in canon that states that star systems don't move? I mean, really, trying to put real world reasoning into a show that allows sublight flights between "nearby" stars to be done in a few hours or days is really silly. So maybe the star systems just move as the plot (and the Force) requires. This means astrogation is part science and part prognostication (and astrogators are probably good gamblers)...which is why there's a Force-based spec about it already. Oh...and the Chiss do it that way too. And then in Star Wars the fools turned from living navigators to droids and computers because they are the anti-Dune, and... I really shouldn't post after a night of insomnia... -

Anyone else starting to feel like Imperial ships pack stormtroopers in like clowns in a little car? First the Gozanti had somewhere around 40 aboard, and now these small craft seem to each carry a couple dozen. It was also a little unusual how long it took many of the stormtroopers to get off the first lander. -

If I were to use this house rule, I would allow extra Starting XP taken at character creation (by whichever means the specific game line being used allows) to be included in the spending limit just as if those were spent at the start of the game.
