Sisters of Battle in Death Watch, or how to get our wives to play.

LordZon said: Is there any way to add Sisters of Battle to Deathwatch? I actuall play in a six person Dark Heresy game. And my wife and the GM's wife play female charecters in Dark Heresy. So, I guess my question is two part. How can I get our wives interested in Death Watch? Could we work in Sisters some how? Just an idea. Well, try having them spend something like 3000xp on either a SoB, an Assassin or an Inquisitor. Heck, let them make a Navigator since Astartes ships have them on board. Someone did the xp calculation to figure out how to make a comparable non-Astartes character to play in Death Watch. -

Did you apply alchohol liberally? I do admit, her taking out "Grey Knights" was a bit of a sore spot. -

Peacekeeper_b said: They were not "heretic" heretics, they were Istvanians (Spelling) and I thought it suited them just fine and made more sense then most BL space marine, space nun fluff. And I never got the vibe they hated men, just really hated Viggo Mortensen. Istvaanian. Istavaanians are Radical Inquisitors who believe that mankind must be strong to survive and ascend to its rightful place amongst the stars. So Mortensen's survival of the destruction of his homeworld, and the strength he gained from it is really why they were so interested in him. And they're crazy folks who used a 'borrowed' Apocalypse-Class Battleship to destroy a dockworks that supplied a crusade as a way of getting the crusade back on the "right" path... -
The Russian said: I had a player ask if it is possible to play a Tau game... Any ideas how to do this? A mix of Tau and Kroot (the RT has rules for Kroot characters) I would imagine just following the guardsmen carrer from Ascension (I think that's the right book?) with some modifications. Unfortunately I can't see anything buy the party running around screaming "Oh god why?!?" as they're given the same treatment as the Tau from the one Killteam novel and one of the more recent Ultramarines novels.

Its remote possibility as it is, but it happens too often for my taste. I'm not against it happening at all, but as often as it does in those novels it makes me think of them as the punching bag for the authors like I said. Before we define Sisters as only human we have to remember that their faith is so absolute that it can and does protect them from a Battlecannon blast sometimes. That's how powerful it can be. It also lets them pulverize armored vehicles etc in close combat. They can also "shrug off" psychic powers as well. That doesn't sound very human to me. Humanity can do amazing things if they don't know they're not supposed to be able to do it. If your faith tells you 'x' and you believe it beyond a shadow of a doubt, you can do 'x' all day long. Think of it as 'mind over matter'... or in other cases 'moron over matter' depending on your outlook on things. So, a sister of battle believes she is protected by the emperor's blessing from enemy attack, as far as she knows, the emperor is shielding her from bullets, melta beams, frag grenades and so on. In reality, she's probably just working on adrenaline as she's been wounded in multiple locations not severely enough to impede her forward progress. -
Not exactly what I was getting at there with the male Adeptus Sororitas comment, Mr. Michigan. But bravo on being open minded and trying new things.

andrewm9 said: Thats the exact section I drew my information from. A garrisoned Preceptory is just a Preceptory. A Precepetory would be a garrison most likley. Thats why I said the Black LIbary authors need to brush up on established fluff better. I personally feel that Sisters are the punching bag for Black LIbrary authors. Despite established fluff we regularly see sisters controlled by psychic powers, fall to chaos, and be heretics (that last part was in a recent novel called Redemption Corps where they apparently hate men too), or easily killed. Sisters have been trained from early age to soldier and have a near absolute faith in the Emperor that grants them amazing feats on the field. Immolators are cool BTW. Thousands of Sisters probably have lots of Immolators and Rhinos Really anything that crushed 3000+ sisters is goign to wipe the floor with a company of space marines that may number around a 100. Well, I was wrong about the Order. It is the Order of the Ardent Veil in the story... it could just be the entire order on that planet and not just a Preceptory, as a Order Minorous apparently doesn't do preceptories. And yeah, the demon engine in the story was knocking tanks around and crushing all resistance, even the vaunted Salamander Terminators that went up against it. Course, it was a 5 man team. And there's no mention of a planetary PDF, though that might be in violaton of the 'no men under arms' rule as a shrine world. -
Just out of curiosity, can I play a male Adeptus Sororitas in your game then? I mean, it's all well and good to say 'if you don't like the idea, don't use them', but it's not like I couldn't re-write the fluff to bring it back into Canon Fluff.

Order of the Argent Shroud. And according to the Witch Hunter's book: Some Orders, notably the Greater Orders maintain subsidiary convents, the largest of which are referred to as Preceptories. The term is also used to define the largest organisational unit an Order is ever likely to field, numbering up to 1,000 Battle Sisters, cloistered together at one location. The Canoness who commands a Preceptory has the title Canoness Preceptor. Soooo.... the fielded Preceptory has up to 1,000... what does that mean for a Garrisoned Preceptory? They had a lot of Immolators.... -
Cute. Well, ignoring the little fiddly bit in the main book, looks good. Not often do we see a large bit of fluff included with a chapter write up, and I like the picture at the top of the entry. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be over there behind the blast shield.

In the audio-book Fireborn the Salamander killteam mentions that a full quarter of the garrison were killed, amounting to a thousand battle sisters. Meaning, technically, the garrison had something like 4,000 battlesisters for the shrine world. -

Oddly, I've been running a game on Second Life, doing most of the heavy lifting for the players... they just have to tell me what they're doing and then roll a die. We use skype to communicate...

Sorry, I pulled Red Rage out of my head after looking at the audio book from The Black Library. If anything, maybe they'd be more 'Put self in harms way for civilians' or 'Quest for Perfection' given the ritual scarring and the constant testing they do on Nocturn. And if you'd like, I could do some of the background stuff. I mean, what's here is pretty good so far, so we just need Chapter Histories, Chapter Trappings, and Chapter Insanity. So far I have, from the background books for the Space Marines, Salamander's Mantle and something like Technological Marvels, letting the players one of three items, one of which is a Signum...
-
What of the Chapter insanity? Red Rage? And why not continue to work on it anyway? I mean, it's always good to see more stuff for the game, especially if it looks and feels balanced.

ItsUncertainWho said: Would you want to upset the machine spirit of your bolter by mistreating one of its companions? As a side note, I meant all ammo when referring to the Fire Selector. Example: Standard Clip = 30 w/ Fire Selector(2 clips) = 15/15 w/ Fire Selector(3 clips) = 10/10/10 I see, well, I don't know. I mean, it doesn't fit with the figures with the full sized magazine on the bottom...
-
No kidding. Maybe apply half action to change out a short mag from the fire selector? So if they run empty on either of their alternative ammunition loads they can just pop it out and slap a new one in? I am slightly surprised at how long it takes to actually reload in this game. A full action? Are we saving the empty magazines?

HappyDaze said: Either way, those are certainly NOT 28-round magazines like the primary (bottom-fed). Maybe it's a take on staggered magazines? Where the 1 on one side and the 1 on the other feed alternatively with each shot, and same with the 2-2? And like ItsUncertainWho suggested, 1/2 or 1/3 clip size makes sense for the addon magazines, so you have one big sickle shaped magazine, then two smaller box mags that are split in half on either side of the gun?
