  1. Let's see, you can have the tank knocked out, or a sneak attack on the depot where the crew is in for either refuel and reload....

Tank breaks down, the crew is stranded in an area where the locals are quiet happy with murdering them for whom they are...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beast_(1988_film)

Spaulding his one of the crew members requireing first aid, etc. Think of all the little issues tank crews have to deal with, from fire to chemical attacks...

Another tank movie: Sahara (1943) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036323/

Heck, there's a new horror movie coming out involving a German tank crew fighting some daemon... if that doesn't inspire you... :D

  2. It's not that hard to have a single tank game. I mean, look at the Israeli movie Lebanon (2009), a movie practically filmed entirely from the perspective of a tank crew:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1483831/

So, the commander will be given an order from either the squadron leader or from his commanding officer, like, take that hill or move in support of 'x' platoon of infantry. You then play to that. Urban combat will be hellish for those in the tank, as visibility is limited and you're going to have alot of ghost returns on the Auspex... The driver will have access to the hull mounted gun and have to make steering tests...you have the gunner making tech use tests and then what ever the big guns count as... and so on :D

  3. Great, I've already started mapping out how to requisition tanks and stuff for a Tank based Imperial Guard Campaign.

Basically, they'll all be part of the crew.... a Driver, a Gunner, the Commander, the loader can be an NPC, and if we have Sponson gunners, we'll have room for two more people... Eventually, the Commander and his crew will either accrue enough points to move up into a new vehicle, or be promoted higher.

    Simply: Tank Classes

Main Battle Tank: (Leman Russ, Leman Russ Conqueror)

Infantry Support Tank: (Leman Russ Exterminator, Hellhound)

Tank Hunter/Destroyer: (Leman Russ Vanquisher, Leman Russ Executioner,  Leman Russ Annhilator, Destroyer Tank Hunter)

Siege Tank (Leeman Russ Demolisher, Thunderer)

Super Heavy Class 1: (Malcador and Macharius hulls, etc.)

Super Heavy Class 2: (Baneblade, Storm Hammer, Stormsword, Stormlord, etc.)

Super Heavy Class 3: (Titan Killers, Shadowsword, Stormblade, etc.)

  4. One think I've noticed is that most of the DW RPG rules are closer to the Fiction than the Tabletop Rules. So, in fluff, Landraiders are freaking awesome beasts, used to take on Titans in larger formations!

There are indeed females in Airborne.

And for the record, combat camera has females and they accompany infantry units all the time and even go into battle with them. I had a female in my last unit that deplayed with me with 1-4 Infantry and just like all the rest of the guys lived on a tiny FOB in the middle of nowhere and was involved in several fire fights and attacks.

But still, females are not considered frontline troops, but th elines are changing.

I ment the boots they put on the ground in the Airborne. And for the record, my mother was in Bosnia, and her position had mortar fire put on it... poorly though. 2-3 klicks from the base. So while the lady reporter was there in her flak jacket and helmet, sheltering infront of the camera to give her report, there's the weather team from the airforce off camera trying not to laugh too loudly. She even beat up a frenchman who tried to force her to give him a kiss at knifepoint while there.

Anyway, nope, we'll keep arguing agianst the female space marine thing until the sister of battle accept male members, irregardless of name.

All it needs to be good is better scaling. It doesn't even need a new design. It looks like a vehicular charicature, which is odd given the designs of other 40k vehicles aren't anything like it. It looks like it's been designed by committee. Move things around within its silhouette and it will look much much better.

    Hellebore

Hellebore, most of the vehicles seem out of scale. The Storm Raven rules say 12 figures, but I'll be darned if I can figure out where the other six are going to stand with any sense of comfort for 9 foot tall giants in power armor. The Thunderhawk is almost the same way, as is the Rhino and Land Raider. Unfortuantely most of these improper portions are carried on in artwork and fluff, using the miniatures of vehicles and men as 'true scale', so we're a little screwed at this point.

And stop being an apologist for those who don't like the vehicle.

    - (BA) Assault with two chainswords
    - Librarian with Force Sword and Smite, meltagun for armour
    - 3 Marines (Devs, Tacs, Techs, Apos) with Heavy Bolters and special ammo each, at least one Dev among them

At the end of every mission where you want to provide a challenge, they will stand on a mountain of slain xenos.

And we are not talking about high rank PCs here. Rank 2 maybe.

You're letting everyone have a HB? I think I've discovered your problem.

Also, the HB is a solid 1.00 caliber weapon.

  8. ak-73 said:

    2. Nerf all Bolt Weapons, especially the HB. My recommendation is shaving 2 to 4 points from all Bolt Weapons and reducing the ROF of the HB by 3 or 4 shots.

Why, might I ask? It's a more powerful version of the human sized boltguns used by non-augmented humans, and still packs the .75 caliber mass-reactive shell...

Best part about this post is the poor guy that asked the initial question has not even bothered to join in this non-productive hate fest. Truth is Females are in the military in most of the developed parts of the world, and will remain so even in the year 40k and beyond. Why? Because they don't seem to want to **** and pillage as much as the men and there are more of them.  Either way really give it a rest this is the kind of thing I have really come to dislike about the forum.

Yet the most powerful military in the world doesn't use women in a frontline combat role...

As for the 40k universe, yep, the Imperial Guard use both Male and Female Guardsmen.

Or the Sisters of battle, though that's mostly women.... Space Marines, though, are still a closed organization, as most Equal Opportunity advocates are shot with .75 caliber mass reactive shells, and heretechical adeptus find themselves stomped on by Titans if they try fiddling with the zygotes...

Or, like the larger and oft-ignored Landing Craft (carries 60 or so Astartes and accompanying vehicles - 6 Rhino-equivalents or 4 Land Raiders), it has disposable heat shielding mounted over the cargo, which is ejected after re-entry to allow the vehicle to be dropped off quickly.

Doh! Good point! And it'd give that lovely smooth rear-end certain people seem to be... well... noisilly muttering for.

BTW, that is a beautifully ugly model! Blocky, armed to the teeth... Can we get stats for that in Deathwatch too? :D

Doesn't seem to be as 'interpersonal' as implied previously.

Yeah, but there is overlap of some sorts.

    Alex

    How about this:

Tech-Use: Auspex gains a bonus due to tweaking or allows a re-roll to any Search tests done by the user immediately after tweaking?

Scrutiny: Auspex gives mass/number of objects and so forth

  12. HappyDaze said:

That would be Tech-Use.  It's the interaction skill used when dealing with Servitors, and machine spirits are far less complicated than that.

Shh! They think they're people! Do you really want to have the Servitors rise up against us? It'll be like the Machine Plague of 2352!

    Anyway, from Rogue Trader:

The Scrutiny Skill helps assess the people or objects the Explorer encounters. The character uses it to determine an individual's truthfulness, his motives and generally appraise his personality and temperment. It can also be used to examine an object in detail, noticing small detailsa nd characteristics that might pass unseen in a casual inspection. For starship auspex returns, it allows determination of a vessel's mass, velocity, and more.

Doesn't seem to be as 'interpersonal' as implied previously.

I would ask if there are any women in your group (I'd go up and check the forums to see if you've mentioned it but I'm notoriously lazy)?  The question ties into the explanation below:

My sister plays a marine in the game I'm playing, and has no difficulties... since, you know, the hole thing about gender really doesn't come up.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/01/22/cardboard-children-deathwatch-rpg/ <- A good write up about the game...

  14. Love your 'apologists' comment Hellbore...really makes me want to side with your point of view on this.

It's an ugly model, to be sure, but I've found myself growing fond of it, mostly because I know that it's mere existance seems to annoy you enough that you  complain about it. ;)

(Edit: Seriously, even if people buy lots of Valkyries and covert them, GW won't care... they'll be making money. If they cared about what the fans thought, we'd have lower prices and Squats.)

That said, 12 models For crying out loud that's like trying to squeeze a squad of men into a Rhino. I know someone's done it model-wise, but the Stormraven doesn't really scream 'spacious'.

Now, what about RPG stats for the blasted thing?

This would allow mixing up a more cerebral game / play style with a straight forward OHH-RAH! shoot-um-up. Game won't get stale etc.

Also, imagine running a game of Rogue Trader parallel to the other one. Egads... nothing like having the players threaten themselves.

I figured this was about the only viable option I had, as it retained at least some level of fluff purity. Not that I exactly comprehend why the concept itself is heresy, but I am sure you'll explain it to me in clear and irrefutable terms.

Tis been a long day. Anyone here running a game online?

    Well:

a> It's the God Emperor's work that was altered to accept the female half of our species... that might get you virus bombed or something. Heck, they're really touchy about even the somewhat faulty geneseed as it stands.

b> Technology tweaked outside of the Adeptus Mechanicus really, really annoys them. And even if you had Tech Adepts working with you, they probably didn't get permission from Mars, so they'll be declared heretecks or something like that. That tends to be a death sentence.

c> It's the Inquisition, what a show! See point a, though I'm sure you probably could convince a radical Inquisitor that this is the only way to ensure you have 100% effectiveness from the species for the Imperium's Holy Warriors... or they might slap you and tell you  Sisters of Battle.

Course, I should ask, is it really important to the ladies in your group that they play female characters? I don't even think there's rules for flirting in Deathwatch...

Anyway, I'm running a Deathwatch game on Sundays on Second Life....

  17. Charmander said:

Cons: It's an epic scope, you can easily get away from the feel of the characters if you're not careful, and you can't fit into places a RT or an Inquisitor/Acolyte could.

That's a pretty good distinction there too. You're not a normal human being anymore. In fact, if you can swing it, get a copy of the Flight of the Raven from Black Library, where they have a little tirade of an Imperial Army officer going off on a Ravens Guard commander at their main base...

Heck, if you can reinforce that in your game... especially if you play anywhere near a chapter's homeworld.

    <big snip>

So there we have it.. a second founding with amazonian space marines

Hopefully this might serve to help your situation.

There is a huge, and mostly dead, thread on the FSM issue (there are many of them) that take this idea and couch it in slighly tolerable fluff terms.  Many on the forums think anything approaching this as heresy, but if you have some fluff puritains in your group and FSMs is the way you're heading, it's worth a quick read, as some of the ideas presented may alleviate some of the pain (but it will never take it away completely).

Ha! The resulting conflagration from orbital based weapon systems would alleviate all pain too... ;)

    Nothing says Heresy like FSM...
