    Black Crusade Campaign Thread

Hi Magnus Grendel, an ambitioned project. I am not to familiar with the campaign rules you mention, but your appraoch sounds solid. In regard to the "Lord Purgator", I would like to suggest that your player character does not "end up as something similar". Instead, make it a campaign sub-plot for him to TAKE that position. Then you have the (seemingly) chaos-typical infighting inside the own ranks of the crusade... it is just not "player vs player" but "us PC vs. them NPC". ;) Make sure that, sooner or later, every other PC has some minor beef with the current "Lord Purgator". They will all have some incentive to see him replaced then. For designing systems/plantes/moons for your campaign map, I would like to suggest a FreeBee of a different system: Stars without Number. Chapter 7 / "World Generation" has a few very nice tables with a lot of ideas and concepts that are easy to transfer to 40K. At other points, modifying the tables to suit your needs should be easy. If you would like some specific input a particular part of scenery/npc/world/colony (or help in fleshing them out), feel free to drop a line (here or over PM). I will be not be respoding till Wednesday (a friend stay over for a couple of days, so I won´´t spend much time in front of a PC), but afterwards I will try my best to make it into that list of 40K sages (youhavehurtmyegoDAMMIT!) ;) ======================== Kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: hey, ASMODEE! Want help and suggestions with my campaign

Challenges: Get onto the planet undetected Unless the planet has -no- orbital sensors/satellites/patrol ships/listening posts up in the orbit and/or the wider system, your players may need to get stealthy. This means that they either need to smuggle themselves in or that the ship that brings them in enter real-space far away from such sensors, which in turn means they will have fly a guncutter for a -long- period of time. I had some inquisitorial agents spend DAYS inside an Aquilla for such an operation, they hated it. Aside from that, it means "sensor works" and this means tech-stuff. Once that is done, they will have to enter civilized area WITHOUT being spotted. Do you want to make this tuff for them? Do not give them local support. Spacemarines stick out like a sour thumb. Chaos Marines even more so. Challenges: supplies, supplies How much supplies do they have been able to bring along, and how (see above)? When will they run out of it? They will need a base of operation and will need supplies. Not only ammo, but food and drink as well. Chat with them before so that you know their general plans, this will help you to generate targets for such. Next, thing about disturbances and bring some up now and then. How do they deal with people that stroll into their lair? What if they will be missed...? Challenges: demon deals A daemon of tzeentch may offer support. For defined support , the creature will demand things like "raise a building I am going to show you" or "slaughter the first imperial priest you meet from now on, and leave him on display with his eyes in his mouth, right where you killed him". One succh thing will include "do me a favor when I ask for it". Make them really on it, then have it turn things into pure trouble for them. The daemon tests them, or it maybe follows its very own agenda. Target: the files of the enforcer and the church They will need support and followers. Those who are suspected to be evildoers may help. But how to get those WITHOUT tipping everybody off? Target: the astrophatic choir If they cannot call for help from off-world, it evens the odds... Target: the governour´s wife The planet will have somebody who is in charge when the RT is away. This person has a well-loved wife who is charitable, diplomatic and loved by the populace. Give them a prophecy about having foothold when the gov kills his wife and the populace learns it. Especially when he REALLY did it!

Want help and suggestions with my campaign

Hello Brian To challenge the players, one needs obstacles. To put proper obstacles, one needs to know the goals. Exactly -how- may they take over the planet? What are the key pillars that uphold the status quo? These are things that need to be overcome, which in turn is a thing that the players have suggestions for (once the targets are clarified). When they have their way, you may start to build obstacles. Do you already have some ideas about the pillars of order? Or are those needed as well? I hope this helps to bring your gears into motion With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! We want our signatures back!

    Gregorius´s Dump of Ideas

Hi everyone, welcome to the archive. I do not know how long it will last till all of this is burned, but for now it is here and since other places to store 40k-related RPG material sometimes end up... a bit in the "flux", I will dumb my old material here for now. Chunk by chunk and bit by bit. Drop by, if you like. In hope that none of you is averse to PDF, I will start with a slightly revised, 2nd-edtion version of my old Lectures of the Tech-Witch (which you may download right here). Enjoy! ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! We want our signatures back!

    Gregorius´s Dump of Ideas

A long, long time ago I created a table with Psychic Phenomena and Warp Perils, tailored for “Dead Stars”, the third part of the Haarlock´s Legacy Trilogy. Now, in 2017, a fellow FFG form-user asked me for such alternate tables, and so I dusted of my old table, correct some of bad grammar and got myself some artwork (see above) to give it all a neat look. And here you have it, all minted for DH1st, I hope you have fun with it. Download it here, or here for the printer-friendly version.

As a fellow forum user asked me about a re-post, I take the chance to add my old Alternate Psychic Phenomena Table as well. Enjoy! ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! We want our signatures back!

    New to BC Humans

Hi Jay, are looking for some ideas for the backgrounds or "stat and powerbuilds" for a psyker? I might be able to help with the first, but not with the latter (I suck at it, big time!)
  10. Scene: The blocked screw [the journey on the Sump River] “Suddenly the bark shudders and you lose speed while the low humming coming from below the rear deck turns into an angry, strained growling” Some of the debris and junk floating the sump river must have got into the propeller screw of the bark and be blocking it now. This comes to the mind of any character passing an eas(+30) test for either Operator/Pilot(any water vehicle) or CommenLore(Tech). An ordinary(+10) Logict test will suggest the same. The engine needs to be stopped at once before the struggling of the machine-spirit leads to damage to its own form. While this is as easy as the turning of a lever and a quick appeasing of the machine-spirit, the other task is more daunting: somebody needs to dive down into the dirty water and free the screw… Have an NPC suggesting to draw lots over it. If the characters aren´t brave enough to do it themselves outright, have the lot hitting some NPC. Getting this done takes a brave man, a knife… and a dive. Freeing the screw takes an extended test for Agility(+10), and a total of three success. Each role stands for a couple of minutes of work. A chain knife will give a +10 bonus, but the knife will need server cleaning or the displeased machine-spirit will stop jumping to action if called upon later. Take note of the number of roles and describe the diver how he blindly fumbles in this tainted thing called water to cut some wrapped up plastek junk away from the screw. After the fifth role, characters watching the water might …see something moving under the surface (Awareness+0; the one inside the water has no chance of seeing it coming). A successful ballistic skill test (-20) will hit the mark close enough to scare the predator of, otherwise the person in the water will get an Agility(+0) test to climb out quick enough. If both fail, the thing in the water will attack. The thing attacking is best described as a long, pale eel the size of an adults arm, with no eyes, a body riddled with little spikes and mouth filled with a set of vicious, curved fangs. It locks it jaws in the body, trying to snake around the prey. The initial attack will only inflict one wound. Normally, it has smaller prey and waits till tis prey dies of blood loss or the wound itself and keeps locked for hours. Removing it takes a difficult(-10) Agility test or an routine(+20) Medicae test. If failed, the victim starts to suffer from Blood loss. Needless to say, if an NPC went down there he will take longer than five roles and he will die from blood loss if the attack is not prevent by a well-placed shot.
  11. „Rivals for Glory“ (the BlackCrusade(tm) adventure from the GM-Kit) makes uses of a lot of random encounters as fillers between the relevant plot points, which is a fine thing if one intends to add additional scenes to it. Setting the 40K background aside, the whole affair is not unlike one of those high-fantasy adventures that dominated the RPG scene in the early days, and so inspiration for a little extra comes easy. After all, anything goes! In this document you will find additional encounters, some suggestions for changes to the original module as well as ideas for optional rules to be used in the adventure Enjoy! ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! [Provided] Fanware-AddOn for: Rivals for Glory

Well, boo... as you will have noted, this forum went into the "Archives", and this usually means a sharp decline in activity. Personally, I keep posting my material here (as long as I have an option to do so) because I have been a "forum regular" for many, many years. But all in all, I would not be surprised if I would -never- get any replies to it. ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! [Provided] Fanware-AddOn for: Rivals for Glory

Hello Boo, while I have no suggestions on how to turn a heretek into a machine, I can help you with the profile picture: When you open your own profile (by clicking onto your own name), all you have to do is to click on the icon in the upper left of the view that follows (profile photos). You cannot upload your own photos, so, but must choose one of the avatars that FFG/Asmodee offer. ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! Ways of Chaotic corruption

I guess you are talking about this article from TheWorldSmith (forget about the forum search engine, use an internet search engine instead). Ways of Chaotic corruption

Hi there, I would not give a character a bonus for falling into the hands of chaos. This will work well to tempt them, but I would rather toy a bit with the Malignancies (p.290 core rules). First and foremost, do not roll them at random if you would rather like something special for the PC that fits the way the player portrait that character. A lot of them can be easily tailored to have a slightly different reason for the game effect, and may be bend a bit to the Slaanesh-Way: Morbid will work just as well when the character is not "gloomy" but "lusty" while the torture part can be kept. Witch-Mark could just as well be one small, female breast on an otherwise male character, an overlong tongue that does NOT look normal, spiked/teethed genitalia. Or you could change the character to a hermaphrodite. Waste Frame could be the lithe, sickening beauty of somebody that is just TOO thin. Malign Sight does not need to be rot and decay, either. If once field of view is overlayed with scenes of pain and lust instead, it will be just as distracting. Ashen Taste can be turned into "joyful self-punishment" Last but not least, Strange Addiction is sooooo easy to toy with. ======================================================================= With kind regards: Gregorius21778 My blog P.S: Hey, Asmodee! 18. Would you like some GERMAN starship names for your games? Well, I am from Germany and I have 100 starship names for you, complete with an translation into the English language and/or an explanation of their meaning.
  19. Hi everyone, I found out that the "follow" feature is not working anymore, at least not for me. I am following several forums and topics, but I do not get a notification about new topics anymore. Did anyone had the same problems since Asmodee took over? I mailed the support weeks ago, but never got a reply. If anyone knows what this is all about and how to "reset" it, I will be oh so grateful to hear. Thanks in advance

    [Provided] 100 GERMAN starship names

*laughs* OF COURSE it has German captain *winks* Which name will you use for it? If I would have to big one for a submarine from that list, I guess I would use one of those three: Natternzahn Stiller Wolf Jona

Playing a Magos of Forge Polix

Hi Cherubi, I am not sure if this is what you have been looking for, but I once created a Heretek Ritual I called Rite of the Skull Minion (which basically puts some minor daemonic taint onto some servo-skulls). I guess I wrote the rules for DH1st back then, but please have a look yourself
  24. Hi everyone, a while ago I created what I call "combat cheat sheets" for large groups of 40k mooks. Perhaps some other people have use for those, too. Please have a look at the provided PDF download (link below). The following "how-to" text is an excerpt of an article from my blog, it should allow you to work out what this sheet is all about. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6kx9bbr1t7iepnj/MookCombatSheet_EnfMerc.pdf?dl=0 How to use this sheets? When the combat starts and it is my goon group´s turn I first decide upon the action each of them is going to take and then roll one (!) d10. The result of this one die tells me which of the result groups from my cheat sheet I will refer to. Each result is applied to the NPCs actions, one after the other, and is crossed out afterwards. The next turn I will roll again to see from which group I have to take the results form. The same is done when it comes to Dodge or Parry roles: I just determine the group once per round and use the results I get from there till the end of the round. If a mook gets hit and suffers more than one or two points of damage, I cross a “hit box” out. If two or three hit boxes are crossed out, the mook is “neutralized” (either dead, k.o.; or whimpers while slowly fading away due to a grievous injury). Of course, high amounts of damage will take out a mook immediately The whole procedure is random enough to be acceptable (at least, for me) and keeps me from knowing the results up front (really, I am not focused enough to have an eye on ten possible outcomes. Not while GM-ing my group). As an additional bonus, I do not even need to pretend to role *IF* I decide to simply fudge some of the dice result (for the better or the worse of the PC). If I need a result for a d10 instead of a d100 I still use the same list, too, and simply stick to the second digit of the result (0 to 9).

    [Provided] CombatCheatSheets for 40K-mooks

Cultists & Zealots are now ready to be thrown at your players én mass. Furthermore, I paid attention to TheWorldSmith and gave my mook sheets their own section on my blog. After all, they are growing in numbers and shall thereby be given some more space...
