  1. Good article.  I do not agree with all of it.  I do like the idea of Leader card for squadrons.

But the one point of Luke skywalker or darth vader over the firespray...I think that maybe a point could be made that a firespray is freighter type ship.  It doesn't need support like say an x-wing.  It can handle itself in a fight.

Both luke and Darth vader had their wingmen in the movies.  Luke would have never survived that trench run without his wingmen.  So they do not get the rogue keyword in order to coordinate with his wing.

I think in this day in age of computers, we forget that those movies were made back when WWII was still fresh in everyone's mind and fighter coordination was a very "manual" thing.

There are people in the background (specifically the battle of yavin) directing traffic.  The fighter coordination is coming from a base not a capital ship.  The guy from the base even tells them Vader is coming.

You also have to remember it was a movie.  It would be super boring if we heard the same command multiple times just to show that a base or cap ship was giving the orders to the squad leader.

Squadrons are fine.  but Like I said I do like an upgrade card for squad leaders.  That is a great idea.

  2.

One theory that I heard, is that luke started the Knights of Ren.  Luke isn't Kylo but if they turned on him, that would explain how Kylo Ren gets the helmet.

And if Kylo Ren is Jacen saying "our destiny" would mean he is a skywalker.

If there is a "Jacen" in there I'm leaving the theater.

he has to be some sort of skywalker doesn't he?  I'm 99% sure its not luke.  Luke is too good at making lightsabres to make that piece of crap Kylo Ren has.

I hear ya. Just saying it would been so cool if it came full circle and Luke turns into Vader.

i'm totally with you on that.  That would be the perfect story line.  But when has hollywood ever done what they "should"?

That "our destiny" is just another perfect misdirection to make everyone think its Luke.

And where is Thrawn?  I'd rather see him then any other EU storyline.  and I bet i'm not alone.

  4. If I didn't know better I'd say Christian T. Petersen is the new Emperor.

This is perfect marketing.  Make people want something so bad that it hurts.

And now Star Wars Rebellion.  Man I was already giving FFG my pay cheques even before their Star Wars stuff.

They should make a commercial with Christian in Emperors robes waiving his hand saying "You will by these games"

  5. Ya considering wave 2 was suppose to come out in July/August, I would guess wave 3 was suppose to come out November/December.  One reason why I think wave 3 will not have any ep 7 stuff.

And even if Wave 3 is already done (which is possible) they will not release it for at least 1 entire quarter after wave 2.  People already complain about the price point of the game.

In Canada it is going to cost about $500 to get 2 of everything from wave 2.

So even if they were to release wave 2 and 3 back to back I would buy it all, but then my wife would probably make me sleep on the couch until wave 4 came out.  :P

I wouldn't expect any wave 3 news until February ish.

  6. But for me the worst cards ever, remains Defense and weapon liaison, being able to change an order for an other one is not a great effect by itself, but having to spend an order token do that, is that a joke ? And on top of that, you have to pay 3pts for this ****.

I disagree with this.  I love Defense and weapon liaison with a commander like Garm.  It will now cost you 6 points to do half of what one of those cards can do.

  7. ya another one that I had missed was when players can trade gear.  They can only trade as part of a move action.  They cannot spend fatigue to move and trade with a player.

So many little small things that are easy to miss.

One of the very first things we missed, was when cards are tapped like shields and such, they do not get refreshed until each individuals turn.  My heroes were refreshing everything at the end of the overlord turn.

I think a lot of this stuff is missed because it does not seem that important, but it is.

  8. So after listening to IFF I did not see if anyone answered the question about rerolls.

A die can be rerolled multiple times.

I was wondering about this with Leading Shots.  Maybe there are others but this came to mind.

Especially since you do not have to tap the card when you use it.

Lets say I have a VSD with the Dominator Title card.  I make an attack with 5 blue dice (and 3 reds)

    can I...

Spend a die and reroll 4 blues and 3 reds

spend a die and reroll 3 blues and 3 reds

spend a die and reroll 2 blues and 3 reds

spend a die and reroll 1 blues and 3 reds

spend a die and reroll 3 reds

  9. I am actually really surprised that we haven't seem someone take a beach ball or something similar and do a DS "conversion" yet. Seems like it would be a dead simple thing to do, and really cool.

There is such a thing.  We have (had) one.  I think my kid pop'd it.

  10.

re-reading the article it seems to imply that the game is a strictly 2-player game.   It says lines like "If you are THE Imperial player", or "The rebel player".

They also mention 'factions', and they definitely say 2-4. I wouldn't be surprised if they split rebels and empire into 2 each. Also there are 4 leaders right?

    There are 25 leaders.  :D

Could even be something where there is a General and an Admiral for each side.  That might make it interesting.  Fighting over where supplies should go.

I think those of you who say this game is a deal breaker if it is strictly a 2 player game are LIARS!  :P this game looks super fun even if it is only 2 players.

  11. So look at the board it looks like different planets will build different units.

Ground units are built by the Orange icons. and fleets are built by the blue icons.

Looks like the death star(s) and the SSD are built by the turquoise icon.  although I do not see that one on the board.

There is also a secret hidden base space with icons.  My guess is that this base must be located at one of the planets that does not have any icons on it.  There is at least 1 per sector.

Looks like triangles build the lighter units (fighters and soldiers), then circles, and then squares build the bigger units (ISD and MC80).

    Anyone else have any insight?

  12. This is the first time playing descent for all of us.

If this is the case I guarantee you are playing some of the rules wrong.  This isn't a slight against you and your buddies.  We have all gone through it.  Its just the way this game works.

One little rule played wrong can have huge implications on balance.

In fact it is still happening to me, and I've been playing Descent since day 1 of 1st Edition.

I just found out heroes get to look through the entire Act I deck and buy anything they want after the Interlude.  Go figure.

I know its hard not to get frustrated when you are loosing, but wtfboar is correct.  Experience in this game is everything.  That includes strategies and getting the rules correct.

  13.

On the glance-over, I'm disappointed. I would have liked to have seen a game board that really looks like the SW galaxy, rather than this abstraction that highlights only a few systems.

While that would be nice, I really would hate to have to spend $150 to $200 for such a game.

You could always just use the pieces and create your own sector maps.

Well, I don't think my assessment of this game is going to be fair, because I'm probably looking for an entirely different experience. I trust that FFG has made a good board game, but I don't think it's a board game I'm looking for.

I want something that will deepen my enjoyment of Armada (and X-Wing.... maybe even Imperial Assault if I ever take that plunge). The Mon Cala campaign is the first inkling of that, but I would like for the next iteration to be something that is a little more rules-bound with greater buy-in from the community.

Anyway, that's a digression. This thread is about the new game.

This thread is about the new game and how we can adapt it to Armada for campaign use.

In all honesty we could just pin/tape a Sector map to a board and use mini colored magnets to represent task forces or use these new models to show strength of said forces (putting magnets in these should be easy enough)

ha ya...I was totally thinking of getting 2 copies.  1 for playing, and 1 for magnetizing and using for an Armada campaign.

  14. Totally surprised by this.  I was under the impression Hasbro had the board game license, which is why Imperial Assault was marketed as a miniatures game when Descent is a board game.  Maybe something changed?  In any case, stupid excited for this.

    Good, I can't stand Hasbro
