  1. Well, I hope something like an Innsmouth or Ipswich Horror expansion will see the light during 2009. Just to add some new areas to the main board But... Once the Call of Cthulhu RPG had different time-settings, the roaring 20's, the victorian age, the middle age and so on. It would be fun having not an expansion set for AH, but a second boardgame with similar rules but set in a different time, i.e. a London Horror set in the 1890.
  2. Dam said: Tsathoggua final combat easier with 7-8 investigators??? Man, that's some cool weed smoke floating around your area . Even completing Sealing the Beast's Power (Mission reducing the combat mod by 2), you'd need 91-104 successes against -4 modifier, while Tsat's attacks require 1 gate trophy + 2 monster trophies. At most I see people getting 2-3 attacks in before getting devoured. And since Tsat shuts down Ma's and Church, you're hard-pressed to get allies + blessing. I thought it could be easier because of a greater amount of attacks. I've never tried with such a great deal of characters, but with 4 investigators we were able to remove 6 doom token from his doom track before being devoured. So it was just a speculation (not with a math basis, anyway) And yep, even imho, the best thing to do is not to let him awaken (and so sealing gates, and do all the possible to avoid the final fight). I'm quite new to arkham, and I was wandering whether Tsath was really tough just for me or for anyone else. That's all! but thx to everyone for their suggestions!
  3. I agree with many of you reguarding the general strategy for winning the game. Trying to seal most of the games, killing some monster, using wisely the clues are probably the best way to enjoy the game in its entirety (even if this can be not the best strategy in some scenarios of the league). But what about dealing the AOO? I mean, we all had a terrible time everytime we play against Tsathoggua. If we manage to seal enough gates to win the game before he awakens, it's fine. But every time we have to face him after his awakening, there's no chance. Even with the guardian statue and a couple of good objects, his defenses are too high for any of us and we are all devoured every bloody time. Once I found a task that should lower his defenses by 2 points, making the last fight easier, but... you cannot base your strategy on a single task. In case of crowded parties (7-8 investigators) maybe would be easier, but we usually play with four characters, so... any suggestions?
  4. I also think 4 investigators are the best choice. The game isn't too slow, it's challanging enough and there aren't too many monsters wandering around, leaving you enough time to enjoy lots of more things! Regarding Joe... well, it's too late to add him to our character's team for the league, but I'll try to use him in a off-league situation! (anyway it will be a long way, since we still have to play scenario 4... too much work in this period, argh!)
  5. Dam said: It's pretty much all Joe Diamond. His ability gives him 2 dice for every Clue Token spent on a skill check. If he uses a Clue on a skill check he has one of those +X skills in (like +1 Fight), it's 3 dice. Of course, against Tsathoggua, poor Joe can't spam, since Tsat's Start of Battle is all Clue Tokens are discarded. Very cute observation! and a devastating damage indeed! thx for the hint!
  6. Congratulations for killing the great Cthulhu at the first attempt! There's something I cannot realize... how is it possible to roll 36 dice in just one character's attack? never ever being able to roll more than 14... but maybe my strategies aren't the best ones... any hint on how to raise your combat value to such a *great* quantity of dice? could be quite useful, especially against great old ones with lots of protections (tsathoggua or cthulhu) Thx for any help!
  7. Okay, I calculated all the scores in the proper way! Thanks for the kind answer
  8. Hi everybody! this is my first post ever, nice to meet everybody! I have a question on the "scoring the victory" point. In the rulebook, it is said to sum up the monster trophies and then divide that number by three in order to calculate the final score. But on the general rules of the league, it's stated you have to record the total toughness of the monsters slayed. So the question is: shall I calculate the number of the trophies (6 trophies = 6, which means 2 extra points), or the total toughness of them (6 trophies worth 2 toughness each = 12, which means 4 extra points)? thanks in advance for help Turambar
