Edit - brother is unique i guess. Not a big deal, since i almost never put more than one out anyways (always scared to put TOO many locations out, and GTM is always a better choice!).

I have to agree. Lanni is a bit overpowered right now. Mainly due to draw and non-unique Brothels imho. The gold and strong events (mainly LPD and Writ, but others as well) are gravy, along with a decent character base. Their 1, 2, and 3 cost non-uniques are easily front-runners for best in game.

Eh, I don't see the big deal. But, then again, I never saw the big deal with Jaquen. He was a thorn in my side, but I never remember losing due to him, or winning either. He would have been overpowered in LCG format I agree...but in Standard he was fine. Maybe since I played a control deck with Assassination at Worlds? Being immune to plots right now is fairly so-so. Wildfire...Valar...um... She is a 2/1 tri-con, nothing too crazy. There isn't a ton of search. I see many more problems with balance in other cards right now than her (again, location control and draw for all houses please!). However, I DO agree that this is a slippery slope, and I hate cards that you have to think of constantly if you are designing a game. They never turn out.

Needed (IMHO): 1. Location control. 2. Nuetral balanced card draw (again, something like Market Street would be fine, especially unique). 3. Just more playable and fun cards. I loved 5kE...with some exceptions (Arya, I am looking at you...with the Kingdom locations close behind) I believe it to be the best, most fun, and most balanced set ever. Losing it was tough, to be replaced by Bannermen and 1 cost plot recurson and cards that reduce Clansmen costs. The chapter packs were sold to us as "cutting out the crap" with the lower # of total cards...and that has been laughable so far. 4. I am going to say it again...more FUN. Would it kill sales to make a brotherhood chapter pack? To make a Bolton vs. Reed pack? Wildlings vs. NW (okay, maybe too many nuetrals there...). I know some of it has been done before, but who cares? Get Martell and GJ back ASAP. I open a chapter pack and have to hold back yawns much of the time. We play the game mainly for the books, people...is that a surprise? 3X locations that mess with plots or bannermen or locations that really are only powerful in the Epic phase? Really? Unluckily, I have to agree there just isn't enough variety...even for fun decks. That will solve itself a bit over time...but I said that six months ago and it isn't true yet. It is much better in Stark than anywhere else. It really doesn't take much of a combo, it is recurring, and doesn't use cards that are subpar without the other part(s). That is my only issue with it. But I agree that other than Stark using it better, there isn't really a reason that other people can use it. To be honest, non-unique Brothel (i.e. Broken Arm...light?) and Lanni's iron grip on card-draw is getting more complaints in my play-group. Seriously need something like Market Street or the plot Alliance (is that the name, the old 4 cost no out-of-house penalty plot) to even that up a tad.

As bad as things are now, they are not even remotely close to how bad things were then. Plus, I agree with the basic change in business practices and regulation that came out of it...much of which was (surprise!) repealed only in the last 5-10 years when hubris came back.

At least there is a small negative (bird turning off Bear Island), although I have seen the "Nan chooses target, opponent chooses that character for claim, bird returns itself to deck, now able to use Bear Island" combo. Shadowcat was good, and that was in a block that had more power cards (IMHO, especially in plots - remember they were 2X for most of that time) and you played the cat for the stealth...here you get it for 1/2 price and it uses the only one-sided search in the game.

Same conversation, different day? aGoT was all but gone in my area - 2 in Seattle, 2 or 3 in Portland (including the guy starting this thread - Binder FTW!). I think the LCG model has directly led to new players. I don't think we will get a ton tomorrow for the league, but hopefully can start flaming some interest. I do agree that it wasn't done very seamlessly (like LoB said, lots of cards that mean nothing w/o the plots). But, part of that seems to be necessity. The company probably decided they had to make the move early rather than later to keep the game alive. The first (black bordered) CP's were one or two of the 5KE expansions I think I heard. Hopefully there can be more continuity from now on. Remember, I probably have the most to complain about...a certain Ghost of HH didn't get her time to shine! But, the mechanics are still there, and the game still attracts my sort of gamers. ~Except LoB...that guy is a jerk.

George Bush? I just want to hear less about tax cuts from the right. Tried that. Didn't work. The only way to QUICKLY stimulate is projects, for better or worse - especially when consumer confidence is so low. Too bad about the Dashle/et. al. but not surprising. Everyone has baggage. I am thinking about running something if no one else does as well. Nothing like Mr. Math would do, but Kubla could really be a good place to get new players. Get some of SacTown going...they got nothing better to do

It is really strong in LCG only, and goes to show why the meta should never be without some sort of weenie removal. It is really harder to balance weenies since they take so little resources to put out. Wildfire doesn't do it... The main issue is that he is so cheap, non-unique, searchable (one of the few - only? - one-sided searches out there), he is good even without any combo (1 strength stealth is good, without trait manip he is still good vs Summer/Winter decks), and heck - now there is even a combo with Sam and drawing i don't think it needs to be nerfed, but I do believe at some point there needs to be a First Snow/Threat North type plot back. I am partial to First Snow since I though it was easier to balance 3/2's than 2/1's (plus the picture is still classic0, but whatever.

Just an FYI - I should be at Kubla this year, and would still love to see people!

#1 - thanks for the kinds words by some people. #2 - MadK plus cabin = about time. He would dig it the most, and I bet his family has a BLAST there. Good job Drew. #3 - I am trying to resurrect a meta here, and will be running a regionals. We have our first league set up a week from Saturday. Hopefully can get 4-8 but I am not counting on it. We do sell base sets, and I am hopeful. If people can play a ton of dominion, they can play this1 #4 - I have been horrible on posting. Between work (banking is..."fun"...these days), a new child, my new job banning these boards, and...well let's just say i am pissed at Kennon or Stanton for introducing me to Warstorm (et. al. - all the Challenge Games) which is a time-soak. But, mainly it is not being able to take a quick break at work and post. I have to remember to at home in limited CPU time. #5 - I will still have Regionals, Kublacon, and hopefully at least the first few days of Gencon. I really hope to see old friends there.

I went to both the old and new one...the old did have a little more "character" and playspace...but the new one was much nicer and easier to see. Sad to hear. Seemed like good people, and easy to get to for out-of-towners...

Heck, I didn't even see that! I am planning a big release - maybe not on 1/7, but in January hopefully. Free product (plus I will be giving away Core sets I won at GC at Magic tourneys, and Star Trek). Hopefully that will get some more interest...
