Could of, should of...Mathlete has changed his mind in the past TO control decks and done just fine as well. He was pretty close to top 8 (the winner between us in the last round advance if I remember right?), and then anything could have happened. That being said, GOD that GJ deck rocked. I think I beat it 1 out of 10 times (and that was the 2nd place deck).
I will be in Thursday afternoon, although I will only committ to the Joust at this point...however I always seem to gravitate to the aGoT area and will play whatever is going on at that time.
Can't wait to see everyone!!!
Matt/rings.

Chaos,
Still just a tad up in the air. I think Djester has my e-mail, maybe we should take this conversation direct

Either way you are welcome here, and we have an extra room if you want to save a couple of $$'s!

I should be there - not sure which tourney(s) I will play in...so many dead games, so little time

I would like to run a cube draft as well - easily the biggest hit of KublaCon was the cube draft.
Matt.

Have to say about the only thing that would make me pick up another CCG would be this as the IP.
Wow, Dmouse - you read my mind. If I am ever rich and decide to do something stupid, I would hire Eric Lang to develop a game for this IP (or, if aGoT ever died, to convert the aGoT rules to this). The characters would just be AMAZING. Imagine playing a Bridgeburners deck...yum!
I am on my 2nd readthrough on the series, which really helps. Erikson's main issue is calling all the **** races very simliar which is tough for someone like me who reads fast. But, it is the definition of an epic series. Deadhouse Gates is probably in my top 5 of all-time fantasy.

wow, people still play spoils? i thought tenacious games went belly up, and hadn't paid out the better portion of the money they "gave away" as prizes in their second year
They are trying to get it up again (on the re-read, that sounded interesting!) at Tenacious Games...but not as much of a competative game maybe? But I have not seen concrete results (I was not a fan to begin with, but they are a Seattle company and I hope for any game to be good).
The Seattle meta is frustrating. We have had probably 8-10 unique players, but it is like pulling teeth to get anyone to make it on the same day. Hopefully between Seattle, Canada/Bellingham, and Portland we can get a regional going. I was very hopeful about a month or two ago, but less so now.

Just a quick note:
First - thanks to everyone who helped out and made it to Kubla to play! As always, I had a blast - spending the time with friends trumps even the love I have for the game.
Obviously, the choices that were made in the last year, while probably good for the game (i.e. the game is still here), were bad for competative play...and if anywhere in the world got hit the most, it was Cali. Sacremento - maybe the largest meta in the country - is basically gone, and LA seems to be as well.
So, attendance was disappointing, but not surprising. The highest # we had, I think, was 10 (or 12?) for the cube draft, in that old Sactown players were willing to stop their other gaming adventures and come back to play aGoT.
LCG Joust had 6 (including a new player- thanks for stopping by Darren!), and was won by Kevin AGAIN (Kevdawg I believe on the boards) = his third straight Kubla win, and tying me for most Joust wins at Kubla over the years (it has been awhile since my last one...
). I got second, and Jesse (Wyndwalker) third. However, the deck was Deathjester's Targ build in that Kevin brought a Standard deck.
To be honest, Targ is probably the best house right now for a player like Kevin (who moved to Vegas to play poker for a living), so it worked out nicely. The cube draft was also won by Kevin, with Matt (what is his board name - Wolf something...I am already starting to forget Sactown board names which is crazy) in 2nd and the Kingg21 (Brooks) third. I was disappointed to not play, but I didn't want an odd number. However, to make people in one draft pool happy - Kevin and Matt were in one pod that had all the newer players...
Kevin's deck seriously was crazy, as was Matt's (Blackfish with Lightbringer on multiple occasions). It was a ton of fun to see my cube used, and I will certainly be running a side event at GenCon if people are interested. The Standard Melee was won by Chaos' wife with Bara rush. Kevin was second (Lanni Military plots and other stuff), and Chaos third (infamy deck). I ran a Joust standard deck (GJ Watery Shrine deck) and got fourth as a spoiler...
As always with melee I had a bit of fun (as I always should playing games with friends!), but remembered the reasons I am not a big fan...
I certainly hope the state of the competative game comes back soon, but it probably will take awhile. We did have some interested people stop by, mainly people who only had the core set and really consider it a board game. Shadows I am excited for - the first set to be designed stand alone, and the GJ expansion I am even more. We had probably 20-22 unique players in the three events for different reasons, but only probably 6 came to Kubla specifically for Thrones.
Regardless I had a great time - be it going undefeated in Standard jousts so wondering what could have been, or staying up until 4am swapping stories with the likes of Erwo, Kingg21, Wyndwalker, and all the rest of the crew. Special thanks as well to FFG for supporting as much as they possibly could, and Deathjester for running the Melee and basically helping me out a ton.
See people either at the Pacific NW Regionals in July, or GenCon!
Matt/rings.

All right! I am off in about three hours...sounds like I will see a good amount of friends, old and new. Might even have a drink or two!

Talk to everyone tomorrow or Saturday.
-
Yeah, Gathering was creating all sorts of issues with timing and the such - I think Outmanuever was banned as well.
Getting excited! I will be leaving in a week and a few hours!

I can't stand foils. Alternate art all the way for me. The only super-rare card I know of is the George R. R. Martin promo which isn't tournament legal. I think it was given out at one of the gencons and nowhere else.
Tell that to a certainl CBK knight that was also a GenCon prize...and amazing...and legal!
I would put that, along with the Westy Streets, Sam, and Eyrie, high up there on the most collectable cards this game has had (they did have a couple of levels of rarity for the first two sets I believe. -
I hated CBK, and really didn't like traitors at all. Basically it was a way for someone with less skill at deckbuilding to win (no offense Rave - someone who always had very unique decks!). Hey, my opponent went 1-5 but was playing the traitors against my house only and drew all three in his opening 15 cards! Fun and skillful game!
Favorite cards:
Everyone who knows me knows I will say Interrogate...fun, Nedly, use of Lords/Ladies, could just be a killing.
Narrow Escape - there should always be SOME sort of defense from mass kill/Claim, and this card was perfect. Your opponent could nullify it for a price.
Lion's Claws - still the only counterspell for anything that hits the board. Very underrated in the day.
Fire from the Sky - loved that it hit both, it could be played at any time. Well costed and a good detriment. Solved a lot of problems (CBK, location control, etc.) at the time.
Character...wow...that is tough. I loved old Neutral Oakheart. He just boned people and they were rarely ready for it. I almost always had a small Kingguard subtheme (loved Blount, loved Oakheart...there were other playable ones) and Brotherhood (loved Anguy, loved Beric, loved Mad Huntsman). Self-standing Jaime was great as well - combo'd with a lot of cards!
-
I never have driven, so take this with a grain of salt - but I have also never heard of any parking issues...although I think it might cost?
Seems like you could park across the street as well (movie theater that went out of business), but maybe they check/ticket?
-
The one-day registration should be cheaper than that - still not great, but better. Just checked it out. It is $30 at the door...would have been cheaper 16 days ago

-
My 2 cents again, for what it is worth.
I agree it is bad for the game. I took the neutrals out of basically all my decks, except a couple of 0/1 costs ones. The perma-steal is always a bad mechanic...i thought we learned that
Also, it is horrible for game design, in that any 2+ (maybe 3+ ?) nuetral card is fairly unplayable due to the risk, unless it was just a crazy card or cancels were available.Taking those nuetrals out doesn't really hurt decks at this point very much. At least Lanni or Stark...and really every house has good cards at almost every cost point.
However, I am torn on whether it needs to go/be errata'd. I hate errata. It doesn't win games, assuming at least a few people do what I did. You have a pretty so-so character at the 4 spot...which is actually a detrement if your opponent just ends up playing one.
So, I am on the fence. I really don't think it is a problem card like cards that have been errata'd in the past. BUT, I would hate for this card to basically define the meta as long as it is legal.

~Off-topic? Spoilers? I think not...if that isn't General Discussion, I don't know what is...

I have to agree with Stag on the level of promotion for the books - it wasn't horrible for stores, but this game - more than any I have seen - needed to get its name out to the readers, not people already going to stores. I obviously don't know the agreement between GRRM and FFG, but you think it would be win/win to have a one-page ad in the back about all the products (board game, TCG). *shrug*

News!!!
The weekend has now OFFICIALLY been named a Regional!!! Regional prize support and everything.
Thanks to Eric Lind and Nate for making this happen.
Now what is your excuse, Mr. Luke-hotty-pants? Huh? Wyndwalker will even buy you a drink he said...
Woo-hoo!

Tried this once...so excuse me if another thread shows up out of nowhere...
So, did I just not see the thread, or is it news that the HBO pilot is ready to go! They have a location and everything (no casting info though...)
Awesome...
-
Maybe I missed the thread? But the pilot has a green light and they have a date and everything! No casting decisions yet I have heard of...
Awesome...
