  1. Stefan said: My guess is it will be restricted to the war of the five kings, unfortunate as it is. But there will be a fan-mod, I'm sure. I don't know, the LCG has printed a few older character (Rheagal, Ser Aurthur Dayne - Sword of the Morning, and Lysa's late husband - I am blanking on his name to name a few). Targ is still a faction - you just have to use Dothraki and Dragons
  2. I agree that Organized Play that was truly supported would be great - heck, bring back Gold Dragons! I disagree that draw is out of control for Lanni. Especially in a time where Alliance is legal. Splash draw, y'all! Also, almost every other house has some serious 'draw' cards as well (LIV, Waif, the Martell chick who draws 3 early-game as well as Messenger, the shadows location ?King's Landing?, that card that came out in the GJ set with initative). BTW sorry I am horrible with card names. Some of it has a risk, but you can build your decks around that risk and have pretty decent card draw. Is Lanni's better? Yes, but there is control for almost all of it. Heck, you can use the 'everyone draws 3' plot as well, knowing that Lanni has 2 GTM's out and you get a lot more out of it. The only thing I sort of do agree on is giving money and draw is more effective. Lanni's money cards could be more balanced - mainly the +2 gold ally. I was always a fan of having more cards that are powerful and trigger off winning challenges. We have had this discussion before, but too bad I am goign there again. Losing a challenge should be scary. Losing it by big #'s should be scary. The thing I loved about the game was the big swings the game was known for in Westeros and I&F. Taking the chance that Ktom will be mad at me for talking about older cards: PTTT/PTTS/Tears/Fire from the Sky and Contested Claim, Preemptive Vengence, Narrow Escape, To the Wolf Banner...that type of stuff. I miss sub-themes cards to round out decks. I love putting in Wildlings (we are seeing some of this, w/ NW) for location control (I also loved Ransack for Clansmen)...knights for synergy...Brotherhood for cool abilities, etc. Seems like we have to go 'all in' on themes more these days (Shadow cards, Other cards, etc.). Uniques and Lords/Ladies should be the focus. They are in the books (I know, I rail about this a ton). The fact that we have 3 versions of some characters and none on others could be better (do we need another Ed or Cercei? Really?). Cards that create intrinsic value in these cards like Bodyguard (printed) and Interrogate (not really) are great. Get rid of the **** Fury cards, especially Bara's. Or limit them a tad somehow. More Ally hate - should be a big detraction to a card! Varys is a good start, and well balanced. ~Lastly, reprint all the Champion cards! I only got a year dammit! j/k. I do love me some Bandit Lord though...just make it unique That all being said - the game is as balanced as it has ever been. Seriously, I think any house can win, which is cool.
  3. Deathjester26 said: I've played a lot of Lanni, but feel dirty playing straight Lanni kneel these days. Lately, I've been gravitiating towards Baratheon. Funny...you didn't have a problem w/ it at the Lannisport Tourney in Seattle I was just glad my 'clean' Lanni beat up on your 'dirty kneeling' Lanni I have played almost all the houses - reading the books I have favorite characters in each and I pretty much have to include those for sure (Tyrion and Jaime, Viper, Renly, Khal) even if they are not good. Bara is the closest I have to a house I won't play - power rush bores me to death for some reason, and they really haven't had much else in awhile (I don't like recurrsion either, another house strength...standing is okay though). More than that, I have a rule (which many people know) not to play non-uniques except at the 0-1 cost spot with very few exceptions at the 2 spot. I want to play with the characters I have read about, not Tully Chud #57.
  4. That would be awesome! Send me a PM if that happens - I will try to friend you today. Matt/rings.
  5. Thanks Luke! They are hopefully setting up a league in 'almost-Omaha' (Bellevue) which would be great!
  6. Thanks everyone! ~and, yes, Huse, everyone should be 1st turn Valor'd someday in their life So many events I would like to go to (Kubla, the big MN deal, any Regional)...do they ALL have to be in the two craziest months of my life (April and May of this year)? I should make one of them, however. And still trying to hit Indy, but that is always tough with my wife's birthday being 8/13. Matt/rings.
  7. Awesome. And thanks for looking out for the lazy guy, Luke.
  8. As I stated on the boards, I recently moved back to Wayne, Nebraska! http://www.waynene.org/ I would love to find players in Nebraska, Central/Western Iowa, South Dakota, or Southern Minnesota! Thanks, Matt/rings

  10. Please PM me if there is a tourney in Ames as well! I can make that trip...

  12. Okay, although I keep buying CP's, I have been out of it for awhile. Not that long, seems like GenCon was just yesterday (and the awesome Battle for Lannisport in Seattle). But between quiting big-city banking to take over the family bank in Nebraska, selling the house (sold in 2 days for cash BTW), working 2 weeks in Nebraska and then flying to Seattle for 1 week...let's just say it has been hectic. The good thing is that I was on the front page of the New York Times and the Wayne, Nebraska Herald in the last few months...~not sure which had more readership! Anyways...first, hope all my friends are doing well - looks like I still see some names I knew along with a bunch of new, entergetic names which is great. Second, any players in Nebraska, Western Iowa, South Dakota, South Minny? I will post on the metas area as well for aGoT and Warhammer. Lastly, can someone give me a 30 second rundown on the online playing. We have always beat around the bush on having this, and it looks pretty nice. How does it play? Are all sets legal or are they doing the 'wait period'? And, yes, I know it is all below on a 12 page thread - I was just hoping for a quick recap I hope to get back into playing. But, let's just say I don't think I will keep my streak of four top 3 placings in Worlds this year. I will be lucky to bring a legal deck Thanks in advance! matt/rings
  13. I am 50/50 - with the move to Nebraska it is a bit more of a trip, but I always do love Kubla. If not, it will be my first miss in 7+ years... It must have been a good tourney, considering I don't remember who won!
  14. I have to admit, I was hoping it would stay a secret. I didn't think much of the card to begin with - 4 is a pretty hefty cost, and there is now decent location control out there. However, I tried it out, and it has been really good. I only use it in a Shadows deck, since I think building high initative decks and playing them well with the 0-gold location is actually more consistant for Stark, Bara, and especially GJ (in Targ I actually think that the recursion to hand/play stuff they have is enough unless you are going full shadows). Recently, I actually took out GTM's for 3X KL's...crazy I know. Not sure if that is worth it yet, but 2+ draws on the first turn it is out is hot.
  15. I know the Green Lake Games guys pretty well - it is the old L5R crew that I used to hang with a ton, and obviously I have known/worked with Dan Tibbles (the owner of Green Lake) for...wow...a long time. I will make sure they know when our league dates are. I will check things out - is Skaven out then?
  16. My lanni builds have plenty of location control, that is for sure. GJ's real issue is lack of consistant draw if you don't get your ship, although the initative draw one is very strong for them as well. i would say 55/45 Lanni.
  17. In my #1 deck (Lanni Shadows) I am playing 5 of them, and Valar (probably the best Shadow card out there) and Fury. Very strong plots.
  18. So, taking votes - i can't go the first weekend of December, but probalby the 2nd or 3rd weekend (I know that is really close to the holiday). Also, I do have league play stuff! Great to play with some new people. Wampa and i had some crazy games...Empire/Orc seem pretty 50/50 and we proved that

  20. Lars said: rings said: Especially when you go non-unique light as I was doing (I hate Premptive Vengence). okay, i meant to ask this when i first saw it, but i must have been in a rush. Why did a Crown of Suns card play into your deck building thought process? Seductive Promise...for some reason I always say PM (maybe since i used to love that card, maybe because they have the same basic cadence?). Steal a non-unique one...
  21. Next league (agot, Warhammer) this Saturday (November 7th) at First Pick.

  23. Hey all! I have been totally out of it since this tourney. Long story... #1 - just like Kubla we had more for the cube draft than for the main event. Cube draft for the win! i did have to re-balance it a little though after GJ seemed to win every match. #2 - as always, I had a really awesome time. Thanks to all the people from 3 states and Canada. #3 - I was disappointed in the locals. We should have had 3-5 more people. You know who you are! I have already taken apart my deck. It was Lanni control, meaning mainly it seemed to win by having 2-3 cards in shadows and then the Valar. I was happy to win, mainly since I beat a Lanni deck that was playing the stupid Lanni Limited kneeling guy who i hate with every fiber of my being. To answer someone's question - I was very light on the intrigue icon. Not sure why - but really Lanni doesn't have overpowering guys with the intrigue icon it seems. Especially when you go non-unique light as I was doing (I hate Premptive Vengence). Also, I do believe that Lanni is the best house, although GJ and Targ are close. Bara is strong as well. Really, this might be the most balanced the environment has been. I have a picture of the prize table (which did rock, I agree), but can't get it to work. Thanks again!
  24. Windopaene said: Gamma Ray games on Capital Hill was where I was able to pick up a copy today, (everyone else has been out of it), and the guy running the place, who I will assume is the owner, said, "I'm planning on supporting the game", but that may just mean he intends to carry the battlepacks. First Pick has had some as well - plus they will always order it for you and have it in a couple of days.
  25. As the wamba + jedi said, hope to see everyone at the first Warhammer league/tourney! I should be there at about noon to 12.30. Starts at 1.00 if we have enough for a tourney. I have attempted to get the league stuff, but they have not responded yet - and I doubt i will have it in time. But for December for sure. www.firstpickgames.com in the U District/Wallingford. Thanks, Matt
