  1. Hey all! Just inviting everyone to the third annual WillyCon aGoT tourney! We have a great time, usually with reps from Missou, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and places I am forgetting. We play games, have a good ole aGoT tourney time, and usually have a bunch of drinks The tourney is also at a small Con in Wayne, Nebraska - WillyCon. There are costumes, movies, some dealer rooms, artwork, authors. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Thanks - Matt/rings
  2. I am a little bit addicted to Kickstarter, and wanted to share one that really interests me - Worlds of Magic http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/304725524/worlds-of-magic-a-new-classic-4x-fantasy-game?ref=activity Very interesting tactical fantasy, with armies and heroes in the mold of the classic Master of Magic. Check it out!
  3. Just a quick post to mention that Nebraska's Regional, held at the WillyCon convention on Wayne State College's campus, will be in less than two weeks! Friday night will be Star Wars LCG, and then noon on Saturday will be aGoT LCG. If you need lodging please feel free to contact me. I have plenty of room, and even will have some drinks for those old enough to have drinks Should be a great time as always. WillyCon: http://wildcat.wsc.edu/clubs/willycon/ Please ask if you have any questions! Thanks!

I have room to crash in my house if you want to contact me, and also I will have some drinks ready for those of age to have drinks ready WillyCon: http://wildcat.wsc.edu/clubs/willycon/ Game of Thrones LCG will be Saturday as well, starting at Noon. Ask if you have any questions!

  7. Derek, Congrats! You were probably one of my favorite matches of the day - very nice, polite and a good player. A pleasure meeting you and playing against you. Sorry I had all the answers that game (other than the 1st turn 1st Snow that I almost played 2nd turn…and the Aemon issue…actually I guess I had bad answers!).

This rocks, and has become one of my favorite threads in some time. I don't think Erick got top 4 in 2011, but I was really drunk by that point (Complord FTW!). ~No one could Top 4 so many straight years
  9. finitesquarewell said: Rings, for forgetting to make good on the pledge I weaseled out of him early Saturday to buy me, Rick, and Dennis drinks for making mock of the competitive melee format he so detests; Really? By that time I had a good head-start (I have found I can't watch after I lose anymore, I get too crazy) and don't remember much You three would be the only three I didn't buy drinks for that night…and I think Rick might have gotten one at one point but can't be sure! Sorry! Seriously though congrats! You certainly have a long history of success - even in 'the only game that matters' (Joust). ~Someday hopefully we can let you in the club of the true winners with Corey…
  10. ~No shout out AGAIN? What do I have to do to get a Cali guy to remember me…sniff… You would think giving out booze during Melee (the only way it is remotely playable) would do it… Just kidding - it was great to hang out and do our usual drinking and talking too loud crap. Congrats on being a bridesmaid again - there were plenty of people who didn't get that far. Cheers bud and see you at Kubla. (~Bring the hot wife)
  11. Without reading too much - and whipping myself for even talking about competative melee - it is like pornography. I know it when I see it ~and it turns me on. Anytime 14 people bring a deck that is almost the same, it is hard to say that people did not collude ahead of time. However, personally I would just warn them and then check out results and watch games. If a higher than normal % of said 14 decks get 1st and 2nd, using each other's cards to get there…well it is pretty cut and dry. The funny thing is, no one really has much respect for the two titles that are not the Joust title. No offense to the French winner in that I heard was REALLy good - and heck I didn't even know who won overall (let's just say it wasn't mentioned once in 4 hours of bar-agot-talking time). Who are considered the best players? All people who consistently play well in Joust. Funny that FFG still ties 66% of the prizes to melee *shrug*
  12. Yeah, Dobbs and I had decks that were probably 10-20 cards different without even talking to each other or anything (although he gave some pointers before the tourney that I took a few of them). It was a little weird. Like he said, I went 5-1 and probably was a higher seed than he was - however he is a better player and took it through the playoffs while my deck took a dump on the table vs. GJ Winter. I will post a short TR sometime this week hopefully (before I forget)!
  13. I totally play the game now for the community - and Mathlete has done more than almost anyone to get the community populated, and populated with people you would like to game with - but more importantly have a beer (or soda) with. As with him, maybe with older age (although I am nowhere NEAR 40 like him!) my competative juices have mellowed. I am perfectly happy with a 4-2 record at Worlds and missing the top 16 to go get my drink on! I am a little surprised at some of the newer metas/players. Taking something seriously because you want to excel I understand. But not so seriously that you shouldn't back off right away if it doesn't pass the smell test. NOTHING is at stake here - names on pieces of cardboard at the most. Magic I can understand attracting some of these elements - real money is on the line, and serious money has been spent on the game. But not aGoT. However, there has always been a bit of this in the game - old-timers I am sure remember Melnick and the infamous smoke break incident. But usually any drama wasn't actually around winning games, just human nature. Between competative melee issues, entire metas bringing the same deck (fun!!!), and rumors of messing with playtesting groups…that sort of takes it to a weird level. As has been said, a high % of the posts here are still helpful and interesting. I have learned things many times on the boards, and seen things in a different light. Keep posting opinions please - just remember that is what they are. Point/couter-point.
  14. Every serious card game has done it, including aGoT (multiples of times). YGO is the only one that hasn't, and it it a profit machine that prints power creep to make 99.9999% of old cards useless on purpose, which works with 14-year-olds (new? shiny!?!). As much as it is fun to say 'we can be the first not to', that usually doesn't tend to be the case. FFG should have had it in place on Day 1, so they wouldn't lose whatever % of people always act surprised and offended when it is announced (which did happen in 2006 or whatever when CCG first rotated).
  15. pt3 said: I would love to see a cube draft format for this game that incorporated both CCG and LCG cards. After poking around at agotcards.org I feel like I missed out on a lot of cards that may never get rotated into the LCG. Actually, while people have been on the discussion of what to do about big box expansions, releasing cubes would be a way to bring drafting into the LCG, and have an all at once infusion of equally balanced cards for all of the houses. Would there be any possibilities of drafting on the sidelines at Worlds? It won't be official - but I will have my CCG cube at Worlds as always.
