I have never built a deck specifically for multiplayer, but if (when) I do, I'll probably strongly consider playing with Westeros Bleeds because it is so easy to play with the Hand title.  I'd also consider playing a larger number of Ambush characters than in joust if I were playing Targaryen.

In general, you can count on a lot of resets in multiplayer. Immunity is worth more than ever in that format.

Yes, Joe Wilson, is he a brave idiot or just an idiot? The reason he was able to shout that and get away with it is that Obama has zero backbone. He should push through his campaign promises, **** the consequences. Bush Jr. did it with the majority of America disagreeing with him and using lies. I'm sure Obama can do the same except in his case majority of America agrees with his proposed policies and he doesn't have to lie to do it.

Speaking as a Canuck, I always find this sort of thing somewhat amusing. During our question periods, our M.P.s will all but sock each other in their kidneys. The P.M. is always a target for the opposition leader and vice versa. Sometimes they shout each other down, and it can be pretty biting at times. Especially since we've had a long succession of minority governments.

That being said, even I found it a bit out-of-line - during the delivery of any major statement, members should keep themselves in check. But it wasn't a raucus tirade either.

To be clear - I'm not mocking or praising either system - both have benefits and drawbacks.

Regarding the "lack of backbone", I think it's more an issue of not getting off-track. If he HAD responded to the comments, it could have been seen as Obama attacking Wilson for a momentary lapse.

And speaking from a country with a heavily fractured government, pushing through policies is a good way to build political resentment, both in the other parties and in harder-line voters. Even attempting to accomodate the opposition can be a powerful bridge.

    hi folks,

before i laydown my thoughts (thoughts of an absolutly beginner^^) some Q´s about Titles:

    1. Timing:

were does selecting Titles exactly begin? before or after the second Player Action Window in the Plotphase?

Before the window. After the First Player is decided, they choose their title, followed by the remaining players. Then, once everything has been resolved (title choice and plot effects), players may take actions. No actions occur between choosing the first player and titles.

    2. the +3 bonus of Crown R. / Lord C / Master of W. :

    - does the bonus really occur on each Challange my characters are participating in the Challange Phase, or does it count for only "one" Challange of my chars?

    - could the bonus be cancelled? if Yes, when?                     (i think its not cancelable)

Any challenge of the appropriate type. Titles and their respective bonuses cannot be cancelled.

    3. How strong are the Title effects within a game/round/phase???

    are they insignificant or strong?

key to win the Game or just flavourful and funny?

Generally they considerably change the game. The power bonus/benefits often give a significant benefit, and the redirecting abilities can be tremendously useful. Key title choice will make or break most multiplayer games. In addition, they can often help shore up weaknesses or add momentum to your deck.

    now here are my thoughts:

    now what do you say...

which Title is the best partido_risa.gif   (D´OoooooooohhhhhhhhhhhH)

    no forget about it...

    lets say it so ....

which Title is not suited for a particular house (Like Valar is not suited for Stark)   enfadado.gif

no please dont beat me up or kick me out of this forum please ...

    last try ...   sonrojado.gif

on a 6-Player Meleegame how happy would be a Lannister player if he (must) choose the "Hand of the King"???

i ask this because i read here that Lannys dont need any influence!!!

    hmmm

so what if two players twinkle with their eyes and constantly let the Lanny choose at last, so that he often must choose "the hand"

would that be enfadado.gif" $%&§"%/& '*/($$§)==?$$%&$" llorando.gif     for the lanny or will he even not notice that

would a Lanny ever pick "The Hand" freely?

    what you think?

I'd go more with certain titles being better for certain decks. Master of Coin is often popular in the early game, due to the income boost, but in general I find Crown Regent my favorite. Being able to redirect a challenge is a fantastic ability, and can be used offensively and defensively.

I've chosen Hand of the King even in an influence-heavy deck - it never hurts having extra resources. But Master of Coin is often popular, which allows you to gain extra power, and it means you don't have to worry about the Master of Laws (a popular title at all stages of the game).

In short, there are no bad titles, and even ones that don't always fit into your overall strategy can often be used tactically.

    That's very clear now, thanks

What I (mis)understood was that first you had to save viserys (by means of duplicates, attachements or whatever response effect), and then his ability was triggered, hence he had to be returned to your hand instead of staying in play. At the end, a very penalizing interpretation...

Also, just to be absolutely clear, any other saving effect used on Viserys won't end up with him returned to hand. Only if his printed ability is used to save him will he be returned to hand. Once a save has resolved, that character is saved, and cannot be saved again.

  5. At the ChiCon tournament I attended, there was a series of 6 player games, with 3 teams of 2 people. It was fantastic (and it doesn't hurt that I was partnered with Stag Lord).

That being said, this game scales extremely well to large multiplayer games. In extremely large gatherings, visibility can be an issue, but in general it's my favorite way to play.

  6. Whichever House that needs a strong plot-based character reset in that deck.

In general, Valar works best for you if you've got good saving/CBK and/or good location/event-based control. But even if not, it may be a good way to give a board wiping. The best way to use Valar is to establish what your deck can and cannot do - if you cannot deal with your opponent's characters in other ways, or lack good (and more selective) character removal, Valar may be a good choice. Just be sure that you'll be in better board position than your opponent(s) after the wipe. That can be difficult given it's low gold and initative value.

I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed yet in LCG.

There are some pretty cool dragon synergy cards and the dragon reprints are fairly cheap - but only two of them are really playable and Rhaegal is more of a Valar shield than anything else. So the dragon stuff isn't shining as brightly as it might.

Plus - the "adult" dragons are un-Nedly as hell and always have been.

Dunno which Hatchlings I want the most. Its close between the 5K ambush ones and the Crown of Suns era attachment ones. Either set would be handy and appreciated (not that I am playing a lot of Targ or anything).

By attachment ones, are you talking about the "adult" versions (the Doomed ones that became condition attachments)?

Either way, I'd go for the Ambushers. Those were fun characters.

~And  now that the Very-Deadly Viper is coming, Ambush may help to lessen the anguish.

We'll see how you guys feel when he sees time at tournaments in the fall. Basically you're not going to be able to bring military challenges against a Martell player except in some very specific circumstances. Tahnksfully i don't have to worry about it for a couple of months - just wanted to be on the record now.

I'm afraid I'm with the majority as well - it's a powerful effect, but also one that is circumventable, telegraphed, and expensive. If you know the reset is coming, you can also work around it. The Princes version is much more beastly - not kneeling, heavy immunity, etc. Plus the ability to run an Agenda as well (a significant disadvantage to killer Viper). I think he's a pretty neat, certainly fun version that gives players a bit of pause.

In competitive play, he's only going to be seen in decks without Agendas, so you know at the outset if there's a possibility or not (and given his high cost, I don't see him being used out-of-House too often).

He kind of reminds me of the promo Ilyn Payne. Looks scary, and changes the environment once he hits the table, but extremely vulnerable to everything.

Sorry - porrly worded. i doubt that it will work at all. Given the size of our population, I don't think the comaprisons to western europe and Canada are applicable.

And certainly not without a significant tax increase (not necessarily a bad thing, but certainly something that nearly equates to "evil" in most US thought patterns).

Up here a significant portion of our economy pays for our health care. And, for a horrifying statement from the government's website itself: Instead of having a single national plan, we have a national program that is composed of 13 interlocking provincial and territorial health insurance plans, all of which share certain common features and basic standards of coverage.

Yikes. All in all, it works, but it's not perfect - health care reform is ALWAYS a political issue. Always. And probably always will. But I must say, I like the fact that if I don't have a health plan, I won't be impoverished over sudden illness or childbirth.

Our big concern right now is if we should allow some for-profit care as well. It's a bit of a quagmire.

I disagree, Dunk: Even for the time, HPL was a foaming at the mouth, crazy racist. I don't know if you have had a chacne to read many of his letters - but a few of them are scarier than any of the fiction he wrote. The dude had issues.

I haven't actually read them - I've heard they get pretty involved. To be honest, I've avoided them for basically that reason - I don't find (in the majority of H.P.L.'s work) that it makes it's way to the text that overtly. I'd rather focus on the story than some of the admittedly colourful racial characterizations.

I tend to run countercurrent to the majority it seems - I don't want to know everything about a celebrity/artist whose works I'm a fan of. Some have some pretty messed up world views. Billy Bob Thornton's interview with Jian Ghomeshi springs to mind.

I did read Worms this summer, and enjoyed it very much. (Yes - some race issues are in that story as well). My favorite Howard Mythos story, though, though is the Black Stone: presenting the first appearnce of Gol-Goroth, though i don't think he is named in the piece. i lie Howard - though he is a little on the pulpy side for my taste. Hell of a story teller though. I hear his werewolf stories are pretty good.

I've been wanting to read Campbell for a while now. Any recommendations? I've heard The Doll that Ate His Mother (or similar) was pretty amazing.

If you enjoyed The Black Stone, you should also read The Children of the Night. I quite enjoyed that one. My favorite Howard tale is still Skulls in the Stars. I still find it a very enthralling piece.

And given HP's virulent racism - which I am finding less and less cocealed as I re-read his work, I doubt he'd be approraite for a given school class. Maybe Shadow Out of Time would be OK, DReams in the Witch House, and Whisperer - but you really couldn't get away with Dunwich Horror, Shadow over Innsmouth, Call of Cthulhu. And there is the problem of his affected antiquity - you must be talking college level class here, Dunk.

Absolutely college-level. Even then, I can see it being pretty off-putting to a lot of students. Even now, many people have a hard time with his prose style.

As for the racism/sexism charges, it's fairly typical of much of the literature from the time. Howard has a lot of that as well, but in the end, the stories they tell matter much more than any personal biases.

As far as Howard goes, I quite enjoy pretty much anything to do with Soloman Kane or Bran Mak Morn (a very tragic figure). I know Wandering Star has a bunch of collections out. I was mainly curious since he was part of H.P.'s writing circle and certainly has some pretty dark works as well (there's a Bran Mak Morn story - Worms of the Earth - I still find fairly chilling).

I loved Once and Future King. its message of honor and peace still resonate with me and it occupies a cherished palce on my shlef along with Malory, Cornwall, Mary Stewart (thanks dunk), Tennyson, Twain and Richard Monaco.

I'm an Arthurian though, as well as a bit of an Anglophile (another trait I share with Lovecrfat, one of my favorites)

I think anyone's enjoyment Once and Future King stems from reading it by choice, or for an assignment. I find it a great book, but I've had to read certain books for classes and it is never as enjoyable/engrossing when you're noting common themes and preparing a comparative analysis.

Although, I would love to see a class using Lovecraft's texts. That would be a brave teacher.

By the way, have you read much from Robert E. Howard?

  13. My advice is to be familiar with the different Houses and what you can expect from them. Playing against Baratheon is generally quite different than against Martell, Lannister, etc. Know what your deck is designed to do, and how best to accomplish that against the variety of opponent's options.

Also, one-on-one decks generally don't do as well in multiplayer. For a multiplayer game, design a multiplayer deck. Be aware than in multiplayer, there are many more opportunities for resets as well.

Finally, if an out-of-house card fits well in your deck, consider including it. Sometimes the utility more than makes up for the gold penalty.

Well, you're welcome to head up into Saskatchewan. Although it's a bit out of your way.

Still, Canada is awesome. Also, not horribly cold right now. #Just slightly cold.

What was that?  Did I hear that "My Name is Earl" was cancelled?  Could a voice from the past be hunting us?  I wonder when the US economy will fail so badly that we all move up to CA... or global warming and the rising tides will force us all into the Canadian Rockies?  Then maybe we'd see hide or hair from this, so called Tallduncan. >:]

I acquiesce to the hair, but please, no hide-peeping.

It has been a while, but I still love them game and like the community around it. Hopefully (well, to me, though likely not anyone else) I'll be posting more regularly.

And the Earl bit still sucks.

  15. I will always recommend Stephen R. Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever to people. It's a set of three trilogies, with the first eight books completed, with fantastic, flawed characters (e.g., the major character, Thomas, has leprosy and may be delusional).

    Fantasic novels. Absolutely fantasic.

Strange, starnge episode in American politics - from start to finish.

I found it odd, but not completely out-of-character (although, being north of the border, I doubt I'm as well informed as most of you). She certainly had a different political run than most. I assumed that being the focus of so much media attention simply wore on her.

However, there's always another "what-the-heck" run coming up. ~If nothing else, I'm sure Dan Quayle sent Sarah a thank-you card for outshining his media kick-about.

    A few questions about challenges.

    1) Can you declare a challenge and kneel a 0 Str character as the only attacker?

Yes. All you need to declare an attacker is a character with an elligible icon (or a permissive ability).

    Nanite said:

    2) If a challenge is started, no defenders are assigned, and the attacking force has 0 Str during resolution, who wins and who loses?

Nobody. The challenge isn't won or lost, it simply ends. Neither player wins, no claim effect occurs, but the challenge was declared (an therefore the player can't declare another one).
