  1. I really enjoy BattleLore as well as my game group here in Orlando Florida, but your take may be a little different. We really appreciate how the system works and is constructed to add new game and play elements with each expansion, while not besting what has already been presented. Truly a grand effort! Please note these comments were written by the Author ;-) Richard Borg
  2. The Green Banner Spider is not pointless... His poison ability really was difficult to launch even when storing Lore. The ability to Poison was going to be schedule for the Giant Scorpion, but that is another story... Richard Borg

    Arbalests

New banner, same figure, but it all seems to work along with the Bolt Thrower unit that will need two crew figures. Enjoy! Richard Borg

    Arbalests

Actually, a rule update was planned for a number of range weapons. The summary cards for the following range weapons Common Bow, Crossbow, Long Bow are amended as follows: Special: When used on the move the number of dice rolled is 1. The Sling summary card as released in the Horrific Horde expansion is correct. The Reflex Bow summary card is amended as follows: The line - Do not collect Lore tokens - is deleted from the card. This of course is because all units will collect Lore tokens when in Melee and range weapon units do not collect Lore tokens when doing ranged combat (per Battle Savvy Troops rules). The Arbalest summary card released in the Beaded Brave expansion is the correct version and takes precedence over the Arbalest card found in the Hundred Years War expansion. We have been playing with these changes for some time now and all these were planned to be part of an updated edition for BattleLore. Of course, you can start enjoying them right now by amending your current summary cards. Enjoy! Richard Borg
  5. Very, very nice work indeed! I also really like the look of your terrain as well. Did you make it yourself or is it something you purchased. One suggestion, to give your game more visual appeal and don't take this the wrong way because your set up looks great, you may consider fielding infantry units with one stand of 3 figures glued on it, which becomes the unit's banner stand and then have 3 individual figures make up the rest of the unit. When the unit takes its 4th hit the banner stand is removed, just the same as if it was a single figure. Visually, even when your unit is down to its last figure, the stand of 3 figures still looks like you have a fighting force on the battlefield, not just an single figure. I mounted my figures on a thin card stock stand which seems to have worked well for us so far. Mounted units have a stand with 2 figures (the banner stand) and 2 other figures. Perhaps someone here could instruct me on how to include a picture, so I could show you what we have done. Richard Borg
  6. Boromir_and_kermit is indeed correct in his answers. Days of Wonder did send out green replacement banners and if you have both we recommend the use the green banners for your Ostrich Riders. When Battle Savvy rules are used, I personally recommend that they be used in all BattleLore scenarios, all units collect Lore in melee, but do not collect Lore when doing ranged combat. Ogres have their own unique abilities, and although they seem to fight on the side of Goblins most of the time, they do not share any Goblin inherent abilities. Richard Borg
  7. Caboose said: Thanks for the clarification on those Call to Arm cards. Will there be a like setup of cards to use for the dwarfs and/or humans as well? [as in pure dwarfs, and pure human] The short answer is - Yes. You will find both deployment and specialist cards in each of the future expansions. We hope the above will also provide players with guide lines and the opportunity to enjoy both of these coming expansions to their fullest. Richard Borg
  8. jcikal said: I bought a core BL set last year that had the command cards in english but the Lore deck was in French. Anyway I could purchase just the Lore set in english? I did put english stickers on the deck but would be nice if I could get a genuine english deck. I believe I have an English deck of Lore cards, if Fantasy Flight can't help you out. if you live in the USA, post your complete mailing address here and I'll send it. Richard Borg
  9. A unit that retreats and is attacked again on the same turn may battle back if not eliminated of forced to retreat. Richard Borg

    Battle Savvy

In the BEGINNING, when a defending unit was not eliminated or did not retreat from the hex it occupied would fight back. No man, dwarf or goblin, in our brief history would stand and do nothing to defend itself. That indeed would of been pure fantasy! Battle Savvy, was a way to straighten out some of the half-truth chronicles of the past. For a man, dwarf or goblin, will always fight back if given the opportunity! Enjoy the Truth as now presented! 12. Actually we did a two player game of Siege of Minas Tirith for Parker Brothers Lord of the Rings Risk in 2003. Have also playtested a number of Lord of the RIngs battles with BattleLore. Currently these are not part of BattleLore future plans. I do believe there were a number of Lord of the Rings battles, however, that were posted when DoW BattleLore web site was up. Not to long ago someone had mentioned they had downloaded all the community created battles (sorry I do not recall who it was) it may be worth a search if you can find the link. Richard Borg

The Battle at the gates of Mordor. Battles from previous ages. Easy. Easy. Easy. Heck. Call the goblins orcs and you could set up a reasonable ME battle with the base set alone. I might look into creating a scenario. Its been done! Just not published yet... Richard Borg Thuddeus said: MWAlbion said: now, Battles of Middle Earth.... I'd buy that in a heartbeat ! 15. We often refer to the unit of Ogres a Beast Bands... and other groups of lesser creature types by other names. Richard Borg
  16. A Dragon will battle in melee like other units and creatures. A Command card or Lore card that modifies a melee may therefore modify a Dragon’s melee combat. A Dragon’s breath attack is not ranged combat or melee combat. A Dragon’s breath weapon therefore may not be modified by a Command card or Lore card. Enjoy! Richard Borg
  17. The key word on the Evade and Scatter cards is "through". A Dragon when retreating flies over any blocking units in its retreat path (BattleLore Dragons, page 1, Morale). A Dragon does not retreat through units. Enjoy! Richard Borg
  18. FragMaster said: Richard, thank you for the answers. I still have only one question: If I somehow {with card effects} a creature rolls more Lore than its abilities cost what happens? The extra Lore is lost? Let's take the Green Spider again. If {with the help of card effects} the Spider attacks with 3 dice and rolls 3 Lore, it can use Web AND Poison and still have 1 Lore unused. What happens to that Lore? It's abit of a stretch but it can happen and it's good to have all the possibilities covered! Also could it be possible to have a downloadable PDF card with the new Green Spider card abilities? Please? Our Green Banner Spider that rolls 3 or 4 Lore, would not be of any use to our Spider. The extra Lore rolled is not place in the player's Lore Goblet. The Blue Widow Spider will roll 3 dice in battle, but has the same special powers as the Green Banner Spider, so that will also create some new and interesting challenges, but it will work the same with the extra Lore rolled. Until an updated Green Spider card is issued by Fantasy Flight, I would like you to please just update the Green Banner Spider's summary card. Thanks! Richard Borg
  19. killerbeans said: I read on the FAQ's that there was a conflicting debate over goblin rush. I am fairly new at this game and would like to know the correct way to play it. Some people feel that because the goblins are so weak, they do not have to be ordered to do a goblin rush if they are in range. I personally think they should be ordered but I was wondering what other people thought on it. Goblins just like all other units need to be ordered to move and battle. Richard Borg
  20. Caboose said: Well since the new rules INCLUDE Dragons (note the last page and having a list of all creatures), one would surmise that maybe someone missed the item in Dragons rulebook. But good catch though...again, another item for Richard to address. Also even the Dragon rulebook (first page) refers to the updated creature rules (see 2nd column on 1st page). My guess is that someone "oops" on the Dragon rulebook on this item!! Cab Hi Cab No "oops", the Summary cards for units have always given troops some special advantage, the same holds true for Dragons. Dragons can place Lore they roll in Melee in the player's Lore goblet, other not so intelligent creatures do not have this option. In regard to our Green Banner Spider with both a 1 Lore and 2 Lore Special Power. Green Banner Spider rolls 1 Lore, the unit that is being attacked is caught in a web. Green Banner Spider rolls 2 Lore, the unit that is being attacked is caught in a web AND is also poisoned. No hit is required to poison. If you wish, make a note on your Giant Spider summary card. Two Lore - The unit is caught in a web and it is also Poisoned. Place poison token on unit and each Lore rolled against the unit or each Lore rolled by the unit will score one hit on the unit. To remove a poison token the unit must be free of the web, and owner must pay 2 Lore. Our upgraded Green Banner Spider may not be as powerful as its big sister the Blue Widow Spider (coming in the Creature Pack) but our upgraded Green Banner Spider on a double Lore roll isn't bad. Enjoy! Richard Borg
  21. jurge From your posts, I take it you and your wife have played well over 20 adventures, perhaps many more. You are a lucky man indeed, to have a partner to share so many hours of BattleLore. It also sounds like you have personally enjoyed creating and building up a number of Heroes to challenge her one woman army. There are ways to defeat a Hero no matter what skills or artifacts the character has, but for your sake, I do hope your wife has also vested some time building other Heroes, if not, when the one woman army is killed and it will happen, there is nothing worse than a spouse’s scorn. I am sure others would be interesting to read about in what manner your wife’s character achieved such stature, I know, I would. Actually early on in the design of Heroes, it was my intent, to have a place for players to record the actions of their Heroes. But as we change publishers, the back of the Hero’s Character Sheet and a place on the BattleLore web site to tell the tales of Heroic acts, somehow got lost in the move. I do hope others are enjoying the challenges of Heroes as much as you guys have. Enjoy! Richard Borg
  22. FragMaster said: In a similar fashion the card Thievery {and also Destruction} mentions: This means, that the player must roll 2 or more Lore and then use all the Lore rolled to steal a single Artifact with Thievery. Richard Borg
  23. FragMaster said: Ball Lightning skill mentions: Your Wizard Hero in melee combat may use all Lore symbols rolled to score one hit on the enemy unit. This means, that all lore symbols rolled are used to score a single hit on the enemy unit. Richard Borg
  24. toddrew said: Richard, could you (would you, please ) answer a question I've had since the introduction of Battle Savvy rules - were these the intended rules for the original game, but either got lost in the translation or a conscious decision was made to alter them? I have been playing Battle Savvy rules - but in Ancients - and always appreciated the differences in tactics brought about by the differing battle back conditions in the two games. Yes and No Currently battle back works well in both Commands & Colors: Ancients and BattleLore. You will also find that it plays very well in the Commands & Colors: Napoleonics game. Hope this helps.
