Facebook is something I (with bias) think many are trying to get away from or never step into these days, so while I'm still a member of some FB gaming groups, its not my first choice of places to go.  Discord is fun for engaging chat, but garbage for having long discussions over a period of time; the focus of conversation is too ephemeral to get anything really in depth into a topic from multiple people unless you on a server that conversation moves slowly, in which case most people would consider that a "dead server".  Twitter was a ******* mistake.
I'm thinking BoardGameGeek is probably the next best place for forum discussions. Their forum system is kinda meh, but supported as that site has a ton of traffic for other games so they keep things running. Amusingly, this move may push people to discover other non-Asmodee/FFG  produced games as they move to a new social gathering spot.

For what it is worth, I have messaged AMG. Basically I just asked two things:
    1. I asked that if they could communicate anything with us. Presumably, taking over three games lines is hectic, and they may have some NDAs or need to keep some things confidential. But I simply asked that they communicate anything really, even as small as letting us now when the expect to start making announcements.
    2. I asked for them to consider a forum as a way to foster community.
I have no expectations, good or bad, on how they will respond, but I figured that it would not hurt to ask.
What I can see from AMG is that they do communicate fairly regularly via facebook, twitter, and on their own page which will be nice once they start communicating about our product line.

I could spend for some avatars as well, I have a lot of GeekGold (drop me a message here, with your handle at BBG, and I might contribute). Got all the Gold Both from helping the BBG site keep up by supporting with real money, and from showcasing pics and rule variants, strategy write ups etc.
So, show your X-wing repaints there and gather GeekGold for your avatar!

I’ve been on BGG so long I forgot you have to ‘buy’ your avatar there with ‘geek gold’ (earned through contributions, tips, site support, and other means). I should be able to fund avatars for quite a few FFG refugees though. If anyone is interested just drop a note to say hi (or whatever) in this thread: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2564345/ffg-forums-be-shut-down-12021. I’ll keep any eye out for folks without avatars and tip you some gold for one (well, until I run out).

    @DarthHenryAllen Thanks, indeed.
    There is another ...
When I discovered X-wing, I was lurking the BGG forum before I came here and found that there was much more going on at FFG.   But for almost any single (board) game out there, BGG will remain a safe place to gather.
The only problem with the boardgamegeek site is that there is a separate page and forum for every single version and expansion.  I'd expect the main discussion to be at https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/252328/star-wars-x-wing-second-edition
The X-wing traffic there is low, but this need not stay like this.  It's a proper forum, not just a timeline quickly disappearing into the void.
Just a reminder about the BGG forum sections:
All Reviews Sessions General Rules Strategy Variants News Crowdfunding Play By Forum Organized Play This should essentially cover the subsections of this forum, right?   There are image and file sections, which already have some content and could carray more (custom cards, repaint images, etc.).  Just in case ...

Facebook groups (and really any site that blocks read access to people with accounts only) are never a good replacement for things like forums. Though Facebook in particular is extra bad in that regard.

Hi, mostly a lurker here but I’ve enjoyed this community for several years.
With this forum going down, does BoardGameGeek make sense as a place to migrate to? There is a dedicated X-Wing 2.0 forum there divided up into rules/variants/news/etc. sub forums: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/252328/star-wars-x-wing-second-edition/forums/0. I think the site also supports adding a wiki page coupled to a game, which could hold ‘important links’ type information.

Sorry if the answer is obvious. I have never really explored Reddit and discord, maybe I should, but from my little exposure they don’t seem appealing. And I do know I don’t like Facebook as an alternative forum location. So just thought I’d plug BGG since I’m familiar with that one and haven’t heard it brought up much.

    ....goddamit.
I really could have done without a last 'screw you' from 2020. Minor, I admit, compared to what others have had to endure, but still sucky.
Yes, there's facebook, but it's nigh impossible to search for old conversations on a topic. Yes, there's reddit and discord but the fact there's both leads to a natural fracturing in a community where some people can't make the time to check multiple sites or apps each day.
And it's not just x-wing for me. I first came across FFG when they took over the 40k RPGs on black library's behalf.
These forums - and you guys - have pretty much been the centre of my last 10 years of gaming - x-wing battle report logs, conversations with friends in the unofficial TIE striker clubhouse, every bit of advice I received in years of trying to 'git gud', debates on star wars in the off-topic forum with people like @Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, but also a decade of RPG campaigns from Dark Heresy to Age of Rebellion to Legend of the Five Rings - both played, sometimes 2+ years worth - notes for games still stashed away for the future and input not just from other normal gms but some of the actual FFG LR5 writers who frequent the place in an unofficial capacity.
And in the same weekend that (for what are very good reasons!) our family Christmas went up in smoke I'm also now processing that it's all going in a dumpster fire in a month.
Sorry. Going to miss this place and all of you.

It seems the internet as a whole has decided that forums are objectively obsolete, but it's not true at all. Even with overlapping ideas popping up over the years, there's still a niche, especially for official forums. Fan-run options, ironically, split the fanbase by forcing them to choose which fan option, and so many other things these days (even some forums, unfortunately) have begun to prioritize popularity over chronology, which inevitably leads to pretty serious echo chambers (and forums used to be known for that, but that's nothing compared to today).
In my experience, official forums generally had the best mix of being hands-on enough to moderate legitimately offensive content, but hands-off enough to let fans have differing opinions without being banned for being "wrong", even if the community wasn't friendly. Also, they were a guaranteed centralized place you could always find, even if you were new to the fandom, without having to guess the fan chosen alternative.

I'm not certain anyone is saying that the flu is not a deadly virus, only that Covid-19 is more so.
Because of exponential growth. Below is a comparison between linear growth and exponential growth. In linear growth, if three people per day are infected, it would take 333,334 days to infect 1 million people. That's 913ish years. But if we start with 3 people, and each one infects 3 more people each day you get this:
    3 infected 9 infected 27 infected 81 infected 243 infected 729 infected 2,187 infected 6,561 infected 19,683 infected 59,049 infected 177,147 infected 531, 441 infected 1,594,323 infected 13 days instead of 9 centuries.
Now lets add in social distancing, face masks, and quarantine measures. Let's say 1/2 of people follow these measures and they are hypothetically 100% effective (just for math, since this isn't the case). In linear growth, again starting with 3 people and removing 1/2 per day, increases the days to infect 1 million to 499,998 days or 1,369 years. Now, let's do exponential which each person infecting 3 more per day, and we'll round down the quarantine number because cutting a person in half kills the patient:
    3 infected 9 infected - 4 quarantine = 5 active 15 infected - 7 quarantine = 8 active 24 infected - 12 quarantine = 12 active 36 infected - 18 quarantine = 18 active 54 infected - 27 quarantine = 27 active 81 infected - 40 quarantine = 41 active 123 infected - 61 quarantine = 62 active 186 infected - 93 quarantine = 93 active 279 infected - 139 quarantine = 140 active 420 infected - 210 quarantine = 210 active 630 infected - 315 quarantine = 315 active 945 infected - 472 quarantine = 473 active 1,419 infected - 708 quarantine = 709 active 2,127 infected - 1,063 quarantine = 1,064 active 3,192 infected - 1,596 quarantine = 1,596 active 4,788 infected - 2,394 quarantine = 2,394 active 7,182 infected - 3,591 quarantine = 3,591 active 10,773 infected - 5,386 quarantine = 5,387 active 16,158 infected - 8,079 quarantine = 8,079 active 24,237 infected - 12,118 quarantine = 12,119 active 36,357 infected - 18,178 quarantine = 18,179 active 54,537 infected - 27,268 quarantine = 27,269 active 81,807 infected - 40,903 quarantine = 40,904 active 122,712 infected - 61,356 quarantine = 61,356 active 184,068 infected - 92,034 quarantine = 92,034 active 276,102 infected - 138,051 quarantine = 138,051 active 414,153 infected - 207,076 quarantine = 207,077 active 621,231 infected - 310,615 quarantine = 310,616 active 931,846 infected - 465,923 quarantine = 465,924 active 1,397,772 infected 31 days instead of 13 days with no quarantining. A great improvement, but you can see that once that ball got rolling somewhere around day 20, even removing half of the pool did little to slow the growth. That is where America is at. And if you add in a Halloween or a Thankgiving where people relax their safety measures during the high tide, the exponential growth grows faster.
Compare this to say Singapore, South Korea, or New Zealand who either made masks mandatory or commonplace (S Korea has 98% adoption rate without a law) and/or used vigorous testing, and they either curbed the cases in Singapore and New Zealand's case or prevented infection rates from even growing over 1,000 cases in South Korea's case. They took it seriously early on and didn't belittle the virus, and by effect, have largely been able to carry on with life as if Covid wasn't a thing. Addressing the issue early is key, but also universal adoption is key. And because of this, their economy's haven't faltered, their population is healthy, and their hospitals aren't anywhere near capacity.
If America, or any other country for that matter, took masks, testing, and contact tracing as serious as those countries, their Covid numbers would be significantly reduced, and would be able to carry on about life as if there wasn't a pandemic happening.

As discussed, I'm a bone fide expert on everything (as I'm on the internet).
We've got multiple things going on. First, the global north has moved on into winter and 'holiday season'. This means that people are spending more time in doors (as it is cold & dark outside), and want to visit their loved ones (because TRADITION! and in some parts not having been able to see them for a good chunk of the year). This also means we're in prime respiratory illness season, so the usual gamut of colds/flus are circulating. This can help COVID spread, as even with the public health campaigns some people will still dismiss symptoms as 'just' being a cold, not self-isolate, and thereby potentially spread the virus further.
Second, depending on where you live, schools have reopened for in-person teaching across the board. This means that you've got children and teenagers moving to and from those places, meeting with large numbers of their schoolmates, and then going home again each day. Add in the winter factor as well, and even with precautions being taken this will ramp up the spread.
Third, depending on where you live, government job protection schemes or stimulus efforts have been scaled back or removed/blocked; this means that those most vulnerable to economic disruption are effectively forced 'back' into potentially unsafe work environments or run the risk of destitution. Oddly enough, there's a strong correlation between being economically vulnerable and having life-limiting medical conditions of the kind which often are co-morbid with COVID (being poor = poor lifestyle & diet = poor health outcomes).
Fourth (and finallyish), you've got political 'leaders' actively pushing back against measures to try and limit the spread, and their supporters who refuse to take even the simplest of steps to mitigate the risks. If anything, this slice of the population has become even more stubborn as the year has progressed, even as the death toll has climbed.
