D2e Card Viewer - a Chrome extension which operates on key websites to underline Descent 2nd Edition card names, which allows you to see images of the cards while you discuss them in forums, threads, etc.
For a long time now, I have been very dissatisfied with many of the card images that are displayed by the D2e Card Viewer.  This is due mostly to the fact that I did not have access to the original digital assets of the game, and relied on scanned images; even if those scans were high resolution (300 dpi, 600 dpi, even 1200 dpi), the images tended to looked washed out, blurry, etc.  This left the final product leaving much to be desired in my eyes.
If you compare the D2e images across most expansions to the excellent images that exist for Sadgit's Sands of the Past, or even of his re-done Lost Legends cards, the difference is incredible.  Further, after working very hard with Isaac Childres (aka Cephalofair - creator of Gloomhaven) and Marcel Cwertetschka (aka Morthai - creator of Forgotten Circles) to utilize the original digital assets of those games in the creation of the Gloomhaven Card Viewer, it further accentuated the enormous difference of quality of images.
Being the perfectionist I am, I couldn't stand it anymore.  Since I am 78 years old, I have a plethora of time on my hands.  At the urging of Sadgit (and his on-going patience, assistance, direction, etc.), this old dog is learning new tricks ... specifically, how to utilize Adobe's inDesign to create new card images.
So, I am officially announcing my intent ... my grand project if you will ... to re-create ALL of the card images for the game D2e, and thus for the card viewer.  I am starting with the Class skills cards and items.  I have completed the re-creation of the Apothecary class.  If you are using the viewer, you can see a sample of the new cards here:
    Bottled Courage

Obviously, this effort is going to take time ... but I feel that it is worth it, as I get to learn new software, new skills, and attempt to keep the mind sharp.  Now, as it is necessary to literally re-create all facets of each of the cards (XP, Fatigue, Text, Images, etc.), it is possible, even perhaps likely, that I make mistakes.  If you find such mistakes, I would appreciate it if you would point them out to me !
I will update the bottom of this post as I complete card sets.

    pag. 10 of RTL manual:
Generally, a monster attempts to use surges on special abilities (such as
inflicting a condition), followed by additional damage. However, the
following rules take priority over the order provided in the info panel:
    • The figure always spends any surges that prevent the attack from being
a miss. This includes gaining additional Range when necessary but also
game effects that require surges to be spent in order to not miss.
    • The figure always spends surges to defeat a hero, if possible. This can
cause it to ignore surges with special abilities in favor of those that cause
    additional damage.
    • The figure will not spend a surge that has no effect. For example, a
monster will not inflict a condition upon a hero who already has that
    condition.
    • If a figure, such as a hero, doesn’t have an info panel for its surge
order and is forced to perform an attack, it focuses upon dealing the
maximum amount of damage, still following the other instructions in
    this list.
    and
    DECISION-MAKING
When resolving app instructions, players frequently have multiple
options. When this happens, it is up to the players to decide how to
resolve it within the confines of the provided instructions.
How the decision-making is approached is largely up to the play group.
New players or players looking for a easier experience are free to steer the
monsters toward choices that favor the heroes. Players looking for a true
test of skill should steer the monsters toward the tactical maneuvers that a
    skilled overlord would employ.
Regardless of how players approach them, these decisions need to be made
as quickly as possible without excess deliberation.

    Based on the following facts:
    a) Heroes of Terrinoth: the bros started talking back in October 2018 on various socials about expansion material, then everybody shut up and the bros started working and publishing other games. Sure, this doesn't mean the line's dead, but doesn't feel much alive either
    b) RuneWars: TMG: it's on sale everywhere (I've seen piles of core sets and expansions for sale at fairs in my country for 3 to 5 EUR each) and there's no news in quite a long time
    c) Descent: as you said, Descent got "a new small expansion recently" while a few years ago we were getting a big box and a small box per year, and then figures pack and all the rest. The small expansion is also in-house printed, which means it's on a whole different production chain, implying the game's not healthy either. Also, they just released Journeys into Middle-Earth, which has "Journeys into" the title, exactly how Descent was "Journeys into the dark": campaign play, full coop, all things players wanted for Decent since a very long time. And it's in a setting that's a lot more popular than Terrinoth, so, this game spells like a tombstone for Descent to me
    e) RuneBound is dead and buried: the last expansion was released in 2017. It's more than 2 years ago, and that expansion was controversial to say the least, and not a top seller
    f) other games set in Terrinoth exist no more: BattleLore 2nd is a dead battlefield, RuneAge and RuneWars long gone
On the other hand, we see the company constantly pushing on other games (Star Wars, AGoT, LotR, and now Marvel) and themes (LCGs, unique games, miniature games) which are a lot more lucrative for them (just look at the price for the plastic of the Legion bunker: 80 bucks? madness). All these products have constant attention, and a constant product stream inflowing in the market.
Terrinoth is dead and buried, amen to that.
Will they resurrect it? Possibly, but who knows. Do I miss it? ****, yes.

Honestly this is why I never really looked at HoT. If it is an in house product it's not worth getting any level of investment in. You can view it as a self fulfilling prophecy but given how FFG quietly drops all support for products without announcing it unless a partnership has ended it really has killed a lot of my interest in anything they release.

I don't care about Game of Thrones and actually strongly dislike it, I don't care about Star Wars, and I don't care about Legend of the Five Rings card game, or their in house card game they want to push to compete with themselves and Magic.  They abandoned their own developed fantasy setting and their own unique RP System (Genesys) that had potential but required actual investment in.

    Am I right?
Just got wrecked in the siege of Asthill and am still impressed at how the seemingly abstract rules convey the hopelessness of trying to hold off an army of carrion worms, trolls, mountain giants, rats (lol, had a hero with all 3 engaged to them at one point....I remember reading someone complaining that the rat's abilities don't make thematic sense...they sure did then!), while ducking into the tavern as the monsters swarmed the town square, while totally engulfing the unattended gates.
Totally got the vibe from that certain, pivotal battle from game of thrones (that happened at night? trying not to be too spoilery lol) the wizard guy getting plowed over by a mountain troll just before foolishly diverting the attention of the big bad nemesis dude.
It's a shame that I don't get to play this with others more often as the interactions are just complex enough to make manning 3 or more heroes too tough.
That said, were in Terrinoth's tarnations are those darned expansions! I'd love to know that they're is something i can pick up for the game down the line.

I've given up on hoping for announcements from FFG at GenCon (and on trying to predict their release schedule).
They will release what they want to release and I have to resign myself to the fact that it will very rarely fit in with anything I'm even remotely interested in.
I was pleasantly surprised by the announcement of the Descent: Lost Legends expansion a few months ago (only to be subsequently deflated on finding out that it was a pet project handed to an intern... not because this suggests it will be bad, I don't think that at all, but more because it suggests, to me at least, that Descent is very, very low on their priority list). I've also picked up a copy of Journeys in Middle Earth because I love Tolkein and because it looks a solid game with a lot of potential... The rest of the endless Star Wars, Cthulu, Five Rings releases? No, sorry, not interested in buying into any of those. (I do play Imperial Assault and hope to try out Outer Rim soon, but I'm definitely not going to spend any money on them.)
So, suffice it to say: I'm not getting my hopes up for a Heroes of Terrinoth expansion or for anything else I'd be keen to play, because history tells me that I'm only going to be disappointed...

Agreed.  It is an effing POD (print on demand).  The demand exists, so why don't they print already?  Or, better yet, just send me the digital assets, and I will print my own.  This should have been done and released no later than a few days after their announcement.

    Hello everyone!
A bit of background: I'm Nick, I'm 19 years old and a first year student at UC Santa Cruz. During the summer of 2018, I had the tremendous opportunity to intern at FFG, which had been a dream of mine for many years. In many ways, I grew up on FFG games, and I owe my passion for tabletop gaming to them. First with Rune Age, then with Descent 2nd Edition. I can say with confidence I have played that board game more than any other over the course of my life, and so after about 2 weeks at the internship I was entrusted with working on the Lost Legends expansion. It was and still is to this day the coolest thing I've done. My main coworker on this project was Jim, whom you can see in the live playthrough that was released on youtube. Working together, I couldn't have asked for a better colleague, he was the most understanding, supportive, and genuinely good person I've met. But being given that much trust also came with responsibilities. I was so scared, I wanted to make the best thing I could for the community, and for a game I deeply loved. It seemed monumental, even though as you all know, this expansion is "only" a set of classes.
I worked the hardest I had ever worked on this project, and I can say I gave it my all, first with the Soul Reaper, who came together rather quickly, and then second with the Elementalist, which took us much longer to figure out. Now, to be clear, I did the initial design for those classes, and then worked on revisions, up to a point. After I left (about 2 months in), Jim kept working on the project and with the aid of playtesters, incorporated their feedback into the final versions. I also did initial designs for I believe 5 of the hybrid classes (which I'm not sure have all been revealed yet). It's been so exciting to see this project come to life, and now that it's close to release, I figured it was a good time to post about it. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to comment and I'll do my best to answer everything. Obviously there is a lot of information I cannot disclose, but I'll try to answer in the measure that I can.
I can't wait for everyone to get their hands on this expansion, and see what the community thinks of our hard work!
    Edit: Spelling

You are correct. I should have written "too bad it's half a board game".
Ah, but it is manageable, can be done, and is considered fun by many people. I also seriously doubt that the app will provide complexity. Nothing shown thus far has been anything approaching a complex sequence of events. Now this doesn't mean that you can't have an app. I have always supported the idea of versatility and for people to play the games they want in the way they like. Anyone who argues that you shouldn't have an optional app is wrong. As stated, the problem is that the app is forced. Rather than providing play options, this setup has taken options away. There is no deluxe edition or app-less expansion to substitute the app. I also question how easy some aspects of the app are really going to be. You manage your cards and play them, imputing your details into a series of fields having effectively already done the maths. It seems like extra steps for little benefit. Set-up is clearly easier but at a cost of table-top interactivity.
Going back to the original question, I wonder if the reason for why this particular game is getting hate is that it is so significant. XCOM was a less popular property, Mansions of Madness was already owned by many and if you had it and didn't want the app then you could just stick to the previous version. Journeys is unique. Its a big IP that has never had a game like this and a lot of people are going to be upset that they are being left out by the way some of the content is being delivered.
From Fantasy Flight's perspective, I wonder about how it will effect sales. Its clearly a huge seller, but there seem to be many people who are giving it a miss due to the app. They lost three sales from my group and my group is tiny so they must be loosing sales from other people. Will the monetisation of the game as new modules are released for download make up for it and will they outsell print-on-demand style add-ons? I have no idea, just voicing some ideas.
