My biggest issue is the app. It's one thing to have an app that serves to expand a playable game, but to have the game entirely dependent on the app is not cool in my mind. Am I the only one concerned that the game will be unplayable after Armageddon? What am I supposed to do with this game when I'm sitting on a pile of ashes with no electricity??? (and yes, I am serious)

tibia reacted to ringofox in Hmm. Yay?
this happens when a company disconnect with the audience totally....
very bad art and design
poor concept
app mandatory driven - this is a videogame with toys?
the game lenght didnt respond to the modern era
expensive as ****
zero original
and they call it the "definitive" dungeon crawler?
i mean... comeon.... everything is bad with this ¿"game"?
and im not a troll... i spend this last days hyped as **** with this announcement...

I hate to start a new forum for a new game with a negative, but this is going to be a hard pass for me, at least for the time being. They didn’t even finish 2E. I’m also not a fan of the artwork, and the characters aren’t even the same.
i don’t know. I’m sure someone is excited about this, but at that price tag I’m just wishing more of those resources would have been put into 2E.

tibia reacted to icarr757 in Another Terrinoth game that will get 0 support from FFG?
Warhammer Quest (yes we know the Warhammer licence expired)/ Heroes of Terrinoth were both well recieved by the community and reputed to sell out. Runebound Unbreakable bonds was reportedly a sell out item. Neither got reprints or any word from FFG, that I know of, as to why they went Doa. ****, FFG didn't even give us the curtosy of telling us they were killing the lines.
Now you show us a new version of Descent with no Overlord (YES! I support this 110%) but with artwork that can't even hold a candle to Warhammer Quest, Runebound (Totally amazing art) or even Heroes of Terrinoth (Mediocre artwork) and is app driven (reserve the right to judge til we have seen more, but it has high potential for good if not flumoxed up). With a MSRP of $175...
Sooo... if this does not fly off the shelves is FFG just going to drop it with no notice like previous Terrinoth products? A price point of nearly $200...?
Normally, I would all ready have a preorder for this in at my FLGS and have my group ready to play it on day 1 of release but FFGs lack of communication on anything that is not Star Wars/Keyforge (yes I know these are cash cows that Descent/Terrinoth can only dream of comming close to) will keep my wallet in my pocket until more news is forthcomming.

tibia reacted to grahamers in New Bug Makes Game Uplayable
The app was updated earlier today. When I go to load my previously-saved scenario, the game says I have to activate “the following products” followed by a blank list. I own and have enabled every JIME product. It does not let me load the scenario that I was playing and saved before today’s app update.
Screenshot of my enabled products and the message I get:

Same complaints being logged at BGG.
This is clown-level buffoonery and EXACTLY why people hesitate to buy games you can’t play without an app. You guys need to get your act together and stop introducing bugs that destroy games or make them unplayable. Backwards save compatibility is “Testing 101” for games and you have failed that task at least twice, now. Utterly failed.
And that’s not even touching the slew of content bugs we have come to expect with every new campaign you release.
And this very week you introduced the new Descent at a $175 price point that will require an app?
What have you done to demonstrate we should pay that much for anything coming out of your software department?
Things have really gone downhill since Asmodee bought FFG.

tibia reacted to Brutalien in New Descent, we'll know more on the 22nd!
I'll be lazy and copy-paste my thoughts from BBG:
Pros:
+ Scultps of miniatures (not the overall design).
+ I... cannot find any other at the moment without seeing some gameplay. *Probably* game balance, which is a result of the app tracking actions/results.
So-so:
+/- Theme art in general. I don't mind it actually, but it's nothing exceptional. Could have come from any kickstarter board game.
+/- Exploration. The question is, is the second time round as interesting as the first?
Cons:
- *FIDDLINESS*. Everything is more complicated to set on board. 3d terrain, water/lava background, tiles, tokens under monster figures. Too many bits and pieces and too much time spent setting up stuff, less time playing.
- Tile art, and tile connectors.
- Wear and tear seems quite high.
- Price. It doesn't make sense to me yet, unless they offer a FREE second campaign via the app soon after release (which I don't see coming from FFG/Asmodee tbh).
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnZPwT6PH4M&t=4223 - just a BIG NO. This is a different medium, don't try to go there. Tabletop games are different, video games are different, board games are different. This is a mix of everything, so it only results in a confused product.
Verdict:
Not buying it, so I will not complain about it.
I hope people that get it and invest in it have many hours of fun and it'll be something that will hit their tables often.

tibia got a reaction from neuromancer9k in sincerity- can we expect expansions?
Not from Asmodee/FFG. Let's hope the Sadler's will be able to get the rights from Asmodee/FFG to do something related to HoT.

They could have done a lot more!!!!! For example, interchangable "steps" to be mixed with interchangable "checkpoints": they missed to become THE DUNGEON CRAWLER 😞 It would have had everything (maybe they should have added also 1 vs 1 since somebody asked for it).

tibia reacted to KelRiever in New Descent product teased
Honestly it hasn’t been doing well because of endless edition release. Runebound 2nd ed was fine and should have kept being reprinted. Truthfully the same is likely with Descent 2nd
Battlelore 1 edition was fine, and really there’s no very good excuse it isn’t in stock. But it never was it’s own game, more a copy of memoir with fantasy figs.
Runewars was great...but is surely both the reason for the rift with Games Workshop and frankly was never anything more than a testing ground for Star Wars. There was never a deep enough commitment to it from day 1 and that was obvious on release, sadly.
At this point, new editions of any FFG games are questionable because of the reputation loss from them. I really wish it wasn’t that way.

tibia reacted to AwesomeTree_in_the_Dark in Fun Facts in Descent
Another 3 fun facts for your pleasure!
19) We did not have any fun fact from Heroes of Terrinoth yet! This is a card game that includes Descent characters and monsters and sadly most of them are using the same artworks. But there are some exception!
- new artwork for Landrec the Wise
- new artwork for Goblin Archers
- and new character Riah Waynheart which is not in any other Terrinoth game (correct me if I am wrong please!)
20) There is never enough facts about Merriods! Did you know about creation process of Dark Elements cover?
21) Did you know that the Imperial Assault tiles are fully compatible with the Descent? So if you want to enhance your play experience and you do not have a problem with the extra preparation time, you can use them!
This is how 2 mission from the Shadow Rune (A Fat Goblin - encounter 1) could be tweaked with the snow tiles:

tibia got a reaction from jbudd in I honestly hate the lack of stock in games like Descent
Just from Asmodee catalogue: Catan and Ticket to Ride. Will they suffer the same treatment as Descent?
FFG was customer driven (i.e. provide good products to players); Asmodee is money driven (i.e. drop games that don't sell "enough"). FFG "must" follow Asmodee "rules.
Catan was out in 1995, TtR in 2004: are they better than Descent? Maybe or maybe not, but they sell more copies and that's why the are not dropped.
Another thing: why a 3rd Descent iteration when people still want Descent 2nd? We will see what they offer, but IMHO they are just chasing "easy money".
Finally, I enjoyed FFG in the Petersen era; I don't like Asmodee/FFG and I don't think it is FFG fault.

tibia reacted to KelRiever in I honestly hate the lack of stock in games like Descent
@any2cards How long? There is no time limit at all on how long a good game sells for. The only reason games are cut off is to make you buy the game again. If there's no Descent 2, then when Descent 3 comes out, people have to buy it. It's completely manufactured.
Risk isn't that good a game, and yet do you think anyone is going to stop producing Risk? Things were never different until people started participating in the disposable economy. And that's when you started having 'special editions' of Risk come out. But you can still buy Risk, the base game, forever.
In fact, as someone mentioned, Ticket to Ride, you can buy that game forever.
Editions are a fallacy. There is no scarcity in gaming except that instituted by game companies themselves, and when it comes to Descent, I have to think it is straight greed. Descent would sell plenty, 1st or 2nd edition if it was around.
Anyway, I'm on my soap box. There's something wrong with a company that can't be happy selling a good game and keeping it in stock. I just think it makes little sense and this is why I end up buying less FFG games now. I really don't want to, I'd rather buy Descent 2nd ed from FFG. But I feel forced to look other places now, that's all.

1 vs many has mainly 2 problems:
- it is quite more difficult to be balanced (quite variable ability of playing by the 1s) than a coop version
- you need to have in the groups 1 person willing to be the 1
1) means more testing and so higher costs and longer development time
2) means reduced market (many groups don't have the 1)
A game with 2 ways of playing can be a solution, but at a higher cost and with a longer time to market (i.e. longer development time).
BTW, a dungeon crawler game should not be a puzzle game 😉 Let's call every game with its proper "type name" 🙂

Miniatures does interest me if their size fit descent.
I Altar quest is a cooperative game then I don't care. I always get bored when no player is the bad guy and I do like being it

tibia got a reaction from Facsantos in Another missed opportunity
All the hype is for The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, but this is the game they should have developed.
After Asmodee acquisition, FFG fails every opportunity to develop good games: only money is important now 😞
