All FFG forums shutting down on Feb 1st.  Just another coincidence?  It seems like one closing announcement after another.

^--- This.  Perhaps a bit of hyperbole, but I am pretty sure I wouldn't take this game if they GAVE it to me.  The art, the boards, etc., all look cheesy ...
And for those who claim (other threads) that they can't provide game mechanics, etc. right now, that is disingenuous at best, misleading at worse.  I think they are afraid to do so, because it will be just another nail in the coffin that points at how crappy this game is going to be ... thus ruining their potential sales.
I will say it again ... I am willing to take bets that at the very least ACT III of this game NEVER sees the light of day.  It is possible ACT II won't either.

BTW, AI for solo/coop does not necessarly need an app 😉 In fact I will consider it if no app is needed: it can be there to easy bookkiping, but you must be able to play without it. I am not interested in a 1 vs many version, but it doesn't bother me if it is there.
Just as an example, Blacklist Games just ended a KS project for a game (Dire Alliance: Horror) which is 1 vs 1 or coop whith many mechanics in common and without the need of an app. A similar concept can be explored for "Descent 3.0".
BTW, I don't think that Asmodee/FFG is anymore a "good games" producer: they lost too many important people for boardgames development and Legends of the Dark is a demonstration of this.

For 60$ I'm okay with second grade artwork (like the elves left arm, and brynn's helmet) subpar graphic design and subpar gameboard and a game that is played on the app for 50% of your turn, standees etc.

For 80$ I at least expect miniatures for the heroes and good artwork on the gameboard.

For 100$ I at least expect quality artwork (surely nothing like the elves left arm), quality graphics design.

For 120$ I expect an artstyle that speaks to me - for example if this was going fully into psychadellic artstyle the current artstyle is clearly based on and not some kind of halfway compromise to appease to the mainstream, or at least an immersive visual presentation that fits the tone of the gameplay.

For 140$+ I expect a near perfect visual presentation or a lot of content with quality standards of 80-100$ games.

To me it looks like this game falls in the 60$ category and for some reason they added miniatures and sell this for 115$ more. Makes you wonder if they took feedback primarily from mainstream-gamers who typically won't pay more than 60$ for a game.

I'm still baffled how this Elf passed quality control. Have they fired all the visual and aesthetic literate people on their game-tester groups? I mean this Elf artwork is objectivly bad. The shading on the left arm is just wrong as it's supposed to be extended towards the viewer (front arm on the bow) and not dangling straight to the ground which makes it look like the elf has arm-proportions like orang-utans. For 80$ I wouldn't care, but for 175$ I do.

I felt like you when watching the unvieling.
"okay, I don't like that, but this won't deter me from buying the next descent" until I said that for everything but the new fatigue mechanic... and then saw the price tag.
After being totally dissapointed by how they handled Runebound 3E (2 scenarios in the core box and 4 additional scenarios and 4 additional heroes for 20€ each and the only big box expansion changes the underlying premise of the game turning it into a pure coop game, when it was a competitive adventure game at core) and subsequently stayed away form Heroes of Terrinoth until it has substantial content, which never happened, I'm not going to buy in a game with light content again, especially not for 175$, especially not when the game is intentionally and conceptually incomplete (just ActI).

Seeing how bad this game is recieved, it's hard to believe that FFG has not already dropped the game and is seeking to do damage control by repackage/downgrade components/cheap voice overs for narration etc. In the stream they did say that the material for map and terrain isn't final, so if we see cardboard terrain and map-tiles, we know they go for damage control and will drop this game as soon as possible and halt Descent production for the forseeable future, because "there is no demand". If they go for plastic, they have some confidence in the game.

tibia reacted to DAMaz in Questionable future of the game?
Judging by the reaction to this game (there are nearly no positive threads about this game neither here, nor on BGG) and the fact that all the artistic choices and app decisions tries to position this 175$ game as a mainstream game, everything but doing damage control for this game-line (like switching out a durable plastic game-board with cardboard) would be extremely bad for business.

Then there is the size of the gamebox which will make a lot of FLGS unwilling to display this game because it takes up too much shelf-space and sells too little (for 175$ it's like the most expensive game they are selling). This means this will remain a game you have to order through your FLGS (which means 6 months waiting time or more outside of US), you won't be able to just pick it up. This will require FFG to use a lot of stock room to store the huge game, making this game extremely costly to FFG beyond production. This will also position this game exclusively to the enthusiasts and niche gamers who do research on the internet instead of just going out and buying a game, yet as the hard evidence of all gaming board shows, they aren't really interested, probabaly rightfully so, because judging from all the components and visual design choices, this is targeted towards a mainstream audience.

To think FFG is spending a lot of resources to develop 2 new Descent games simultaniously when the Descent line is much less profitable than all their collective and living card games, is also unrealistic wishfull thinking, sry.

Long story short: FFG is going to try to cut losses on this game and not develop act II and III. Only get the game now, if you are content with not ever seeing act II and III or the conclusion of the story. If you have your doubts about spending 175$ on a narrative focused game with an uncomplete narrative, wait until act III (or act II if that is enough for you) is released and then buy the whole gameline (it will also be a lot cheaper then).

Imo, if you are truthfull to the fact that FFG is a business and primarily wants to make money, imo there is little reason to anticipate that there will be more releases in this game-line than the core game.

The more I think of it, the more I think this game should be a Terrinoth universe game but with no descent in his title like : "Legends of Terrinoth" so this way the game would have his on identity and could exist without his big brother and since FFG insiste on the point that is no Descent V3, this would be a better communication.
But since they chose descent in the title, this will without any doubt be a threat to his life as a game.
If looking the game with no Descent in it, I would be less agressive, even if the app only driven mechanic regarding of the app is for sure a risky choice and the price is ridiculously expesnsive regarding the components (either price is cut in half either all 3d carton is replaced by plastic to be acceptable).
But as a Descent game line, my position won't move : this game sucks in all ways, to the point that even if I would receive a free game, I wouldn't even play it, because of 3 points : horrible art, the mechanics of turning over cards over and over, and a boring app that makes me feel playing a bad video game decorated with few miniatures on an unfinished prototype game. So buying and playing this game would be as acceoting games are going the wrong way and I refuse to accepte this statement.

If i were them, I would immediately change the game name to save the idea. This may look nothing, but I'm sure it is really important

Wow. Any enthusiasm I might have had after the sneak peak just evaporated.
The character art is ugly with a capital U. I don't care for this style at all.
App mandatory. No. The great thing about a board game is that it is should be playable straight off the shelf. No power? Light some candles and play. No internet? Cardboard don't need it. Can't find a device that has that specific  app, or it needs to update, or just isn't supported anymore? Shouldn't matter with a straight analog game.
$175. One Hundred Seventy Five BUCKS?!?! What are they smoking? No Fraking way

The game is as worse as I bêta tested it : the art is ugly, the game is almost disconnected from descent universe, the only payable app is a scandal ...

Only miniature looks like great, all other is ugly, stupid, boring, and uninterresting. I tried to tell this during the test but I was kicked.
I'm almost sure the game won't live more than Runewars miniatures : few expansions during 2 years if lucky, and that's all.
With that awfully stupidly high price, the totally disconnection with the fans, the only app driven (and the app is far from being good), I'm really sorry to say that but I hope it will be a big fail so they would never go this way again, listen back to their fan, maybe give the second edition a new life, or a Real respectable V3

While I wish it didn’t utilize an app, I can get past it. One of the worst things in my opinion is the artwork. It just doesn’t look like Terrinoth. I’ve loved the universe and lore and have purchased everything FFG has put out on it but this...I’m just not too sure about. And at about $200, ehhhh, I’m worried.

this is also a matter of taste and personal opinion.
To me the apps in boardgames are a trend from the past... this apps didnt add anything interesting in boardgames beyond "setup manager" or stupid things as "enemy rolls dices"... nothing that a good board game design can make by his own.
the future in boardgames is to keeping this wonderful magic without the digital, theres the magic... Thats why i love boardgames and videgames bored me...
And yes, is a personal opinion of course, but this is FFG (not sure anymore) and i grow with the best ameritrash designs in history, this hobby is amazing... i dont want app only driven games, not only in my shelves, i dont wantit in the marker.
