Should have been released in France in June would they have not sold the IP to FFG, so I guess its almost ready.
The question is will FFG just translate the single pack or already "upgrade them" to the new set of rules. I hope they don't so they can release them as fast as possible maybe in mid to late november.

weapon summery cards- don't think it should totaly replace tokens since you will need them for dropped items, unless they throw that out!!

From my experience, you just put the equipment cards of the killed character on another part of the table and place a token with the character face on the map. If a character wants to get an equipement from the "corpse" just hand over the cards.

Sadly no. You'll have to wait for Daedalus release to check the bits of story in it, should FFG not have scraped them like they did in Novgorod.

-
Well there's quite a lot token which have not been translated by FFG. Some of them have been included in the french Daedalus expansion pack, I wonder if it will be the case for the english release.
Beyond the untranslated TotM (Token of the Month), I must say that wihile I like the idea, should FFG ever resurect them, I'd like to see a more regular release for each faction. For example it could be a Union->Reich->Matriarchy then start over, with a"Mercenary" token on the occasion.

You always must declare what equipement(s) you want to use before rolling the dice be they weapons or abilities.

From Daedalus fluff (if translated into english...) the Golden Globe Social Club is clearly aligned with Union, its leader having been entrusted with Great Britain protection by the Royal Family.

TOY had 3 Single pack ready to be released:
Caitlin «Hoax» Lamsbury for the Union
ReichDoktor Hass Horbringer, a Legendary Character for the Reich
Oksana Gusarenko for the Matriarchy
TOY had also planned the release of a special Single Pack with the the Minotaur and a whole campaign dedicated to the beast.
Finally for 2009, TOY had planned to release a troop pack which would have included two additionnal troop for each faction. These troops would have been the same as those in the basic box and Novgorod expansion but with a differrent color scheme. However they would also had included new equipement tokens, to add more variety.

Once again I think that what you're aiming at Chimaera is another kind of game using the Tannhäuser IP, one game we or may not see released depending on FFG deciding how to exploit the IP.
From the State of the Game it is quite clear that th Pathfinfing system will be kept as is the current character stats. The V2 is said to be totally backward compatible with the already produced material and there is no mention of an "upgrade" pack at the moment.
Now about the minis, I'd like FFG to scrap the single packs and replace them with squad packs of 3 to 5 miniatures as it's much more cost efficient. I'd like to see at least a squad pack every 6 months. Suad packs could be for one faction or maybe even mixed factions to introduce a new hero/troop for each faction.
While I agree that paper maps would be cheaper to produce I think it would also reduce the overall quality of the game as is the introduction of non painted miniatures.

At the moment the battle is centered on the european/mediteranean front. We have no clue on what's happening elsewhere on the globe...

Before a fourth faction, I'd prefer to see the current three factions sub-groups get some love...

Grenade - Yes because it affects all adjacent circles not matter which color they are.
Doom - Yes because it's rule say so.
-
I expect FFG to change the content of the box, not just the rulebook. If not then it will be a "Revised" edition not a true "Second" edition.
Wait and see then.

I need no cards, because you need more space on the table for cards
Ussually I stack the cards and then it takes much less space on the table. Plus I have all the info I need on the card. No need to refer to a booklet or cheat sheet. It also make prep time a whiz because I just have to select the good cards and I'm ready to play.

The free rules update (or $5 hardcopy) should be available by the end of this month.
I thought it was planned to be released later this fall ? If its true then they have worked on these revised rules booklet for quite some time now...

Just as an aside. Plageman what do the French players of the game think about what is happening. Do they see this as a USA company stepping in on their scene and will just exclude the French community that has been built up. Indeed what have the staff at TOY said about it all. I am surprised that maybe more French players aren't coming on here and lobbying FFG to have a similar set up to the TOY site (that I would like). Also is there French players who would like to see change or amendments to the game. I feel that the French Tannhauser gaming community must be worst hit by the change & I take no pleasure in that fact.
Most of the French community see the buyout as th end of the game as they knew it and they are most disheartened. From what I've read most players will distance themselves with the game until FFG releases the revised version.
It's going to be hard times for the French Tannhäuser community and I don't expect it to survive the ordeal unscathed. You must understand that we've been plugged into the game mechanics and background developpement since day one and both the sale of the IP to FFG and the end of the organized play is a very important change for us.
Now for what I'd like to change in the game is mostly cosmetics:
- Use cards instead of equipement and character tokens (see my previous post about this)
- Use thicker circles on the maps.
- Draw small lines between circles so it's easier to decide which circle is adjacent to another.
As for the game rules themselves I acknowledge there is need for small change and explanations. After all the French version of the FAQ I helped to maintain is 15 pages long, that's almost the size of the rules in the first booklet !

This Fall...
At least that's what they announced back at the GenCon.I'm very curious about the outpost map and how it will tactically compare to the four produced by TOY.
-
That's interesting. Let's hope we'll get a plenty of information about the revised version and what plans they have in store for following years (Cerberus !).

An interesting concept would be a German Heavy trooper.
Heavy body Armor with 2 MG 42s on the sholders with an ammo canister on the back.
And what would be his weakness ?

i dont understand why wolf is not for sale in u.s. here in germany we can buy him for 8.95€, like all the other chars.
why is wolf so hot? only in u.s. or elsewhere too?
At the time of the original US release Wolf was an exclusive pre-order fig. But instead of making it available as regular pack a few months after the release, FFG sticked to the "Exclusive promo fig" shtick and continue to sell it only at events like Gen Con. The consequence is that for players not attending these evenst there is no way to get wolf from a brick and mortar store.

Any idea when packs with more soldiers might come out? So i can field more than one?
Depends on FFG good will.
The planned troop pack (before Tannhauser sellout) was expected to add one of each type of troop for all three factions. Matriarchy would have had 4 extra voivods. It would also have new equipement token in addition to those found in the base set.

I have several games that use minis on a flat map or board and can't recall having line of sight issues with any of them.
LOS rules, from my pov, often slow the game as you have to check multiple times if you see (or not) the target. the PF system simplify that so it's easier to check.
About the jumping over obstacle, it can be done inside the PF system, just check it was done for the Daedalus map where you have the possibility to pass over pits.

My fear with our posting here is that it will all be for naught;I totally agree. FFG hasn't bothered to correct the layout mistakes in the "Chronology" PDF even after we pointed at them more than one year ago. I understand it's not a critical product but it's sad to see that they didn't care about it.
-
Chimaera, I understand that the support for the game went from inexistant to poor, but TOY can't be blamed for FFG decision not to sell Wolf or for the long delay to releasing Novgorod or even for the lack of official posts on the boards. About this particular point, I can hardly imagine how TOY could have posted here when FFG does not use his own boards to talk with the fanbase.
As said on the (french) official site, the PF was created to simplify those often complex LOS rules we've all experienced in other games. For me then, removing the Pathfinding is removing what makes Tannhauser different from miniature games.
About Asterios, you will understand when reading the Daedalus campaign that there was no need to pack him with the map. His presence here is not required. If FFG continue what TOY had planned, he will be released with a campaign in which he will feature prominently.
Also remember that with the to-be-released packs you will have a good choice of characters to chose from:
- Union: 5 Heroes (John, Barry, Tala Ramirez, Hoax), 2x2 troops (Base set + troop pack)
- Reich: 5 Heroes (Eva, Yula, Hermann, Ozo, the Reichdoktor), 2x2 troops (Base set + troop pack)
- Matriarchy: 5 Heroes (Zor'ka, Irina, Irishka, Gorgeï, Oksana), 4x2 voivods(Novgorod set + troop pack)
- Mercenaries: 1 Hero (Wolf)
Each character come with it's own equipement and customization is added with every free token released. I know that FFG has not been diligent in translating these tokens but I assure you that the tokens have an even more important impact on the game than the character themselves.

My biggest disappointment was the story mode. I really thought that the box would contain compaign scenarios. There have been plenty published since then, but I still would like tighter stories.
As I've said elsewhere fan-made scenarios do exist. Some of them are very impressive and are worth reading and playing. More "official" scenarios do exist but only in french at the moment.
Also there is a serious difference between scenarios made by the original French team and those published by FFG. TOY scenario are oftemn more complexe and offer multiple ways of achieving victory as each squad has to score mission points. FFG one are, well let's say much simpler.

It was for the fluff i considered getting into Tannhauser, if that's going to be dropped i fail to see why i'd bother with it...

Because Tannhauser is still a very good tactical board game, that's why.

Also the former owner of the game, Take On You had quite a number of fluff resources which have not been translated by FFG at the moment. Some excellent fiction do exist, written by the fans, but more important, made official by the Take On You team.
Right now FFG has not announced anything concerning Tannhasuer except that they'll publish Daeddalus and the the remaining packs planned by TOY who were hold back due to the sale. After that and the v2 ruylebook nothing is known so maybe they'll create more Tannhauser themed products, who knows

So what happened...

Well I'd be happy if Tannhauser got more attention. Starting with a monthly State of the Game would be nice
