  1. Artemus Maximus said: i got this game in the winter with the understanding FFG was releasing new rules - the reason i didnt get sooner was because of the clunkiness. Playing the game since the initial French release, I can assure you the game isn't that "clunky" however I can understand that its rules aren't suited to everyones taste.
  2. Actually they are mainly supporting their "brand" lines: Game of throne (LCG, "BattleLore" board game), Call of Cthulhu (LCG, Arkham Horror), Warhammer (LCG, RPG), WH40K (Dark Heresy RPG, Rogue Trader RPG, DeathWatch RPG, Horus Heresy board game), Terrinoth (Descent, RuneWars). Other games get an occasionnal update this include games like Starcraft, Cosmic Encounter and Talisman. Some other never get much attention beyond the initial release or fall on the wayside (Word of Warcraft or "classic" BattleLore lines). All I hope is that once the 2.0 rules are out Tannhauser will belong to the first category of games...
  3. i guess other brands are more "hot" than Tannhauser. I just hope that we won't be mistreated as the BattleLore community was...

    2.0 rules?

greenlantern92 said: Well, it's supposed to be coming out anytime now. Though my best guess is early summer for the release. They have big expansions coming out now for the more popular games, so I figure soon after that. BTW the Upcoming section still list Daedalus for late 2009. I think that FFG has just decided that TH is not that "Hot" anymore and think it's more important to support more "selling" brands like Cthulhu, Warhammer and Game of Throne. I guess we can be happy if this game will ever get something new in a couple of years from now...

    Grenades

As long as they are connected, yes the blast affect the character on the adjacent circles. Note than an adjacent circle need not to be from the same Pathfinding...
  6. The matrarchy strategy is all about Zor'Ka theur Legendary character. all other Hro and Troops are really here to provide support to her.
  7. For the troopers, Take On You had planned to release a Troop with the same sculpt but an alternate paint scheme and new Tokens.
  8. Hoffman, who's Hoffman ? I guess you're talking about von Heizinger Anyway I actually like the idea of replacing another character with a "deceased" Hero, but I think it should be part of a special scenario rather than a "standard" ability.
  9. Nope. I guess that Tannhauser, despite being advertised as an intersting new IP is getting less screen time than some other brand. I think it's a shame as they have the potential to create a "modern" setting to compliment their already important fantasy setting of Terrinoth.
  10. Let's say there is 6 Objective Circles, 2 Main Objectives and 4 Secondary Objectives. Before rolling for Setup you will prepare two piles of main objectives tokens, one for each of it, and the four remaining secondary objectives token. Then each player roll a 10-sided dice. The winner (let's call him player1) has the first pick for the Main Objective selection. He randomly draws one token from the corresponding pile and put it on the circle. This circle's objective can now only be resolved by this player team. All remaining main objective tokens for player1 are discarded. the loser (player2) randomly draws one token from the pile corresponding to the remaining main objective and put it on the Circle. All remaining main objective tokens for player2 are discarded. Now it's player1 turn again and he one of the secondary objective circles and put the corresponding token on it. After that player2 one of the three remaining secondary objectives and put his own token on it. Repeat the process one last time and all objectives are filled with a token corresponding to one or another faction.

    Re: balance

As the Union you must use the prototype weapons and the smoke screen grenades at your advantage. Also if the Reich decides to keep position in a room, your only option is trying rushing in, even at the cost of losing one of your team member.

    Grenades

Each toke represent only one grenade or smoke screen. Once used they are gone.
  13. You can also download the rulebook on FFG website, the only part you won't have in English is the three dedicated scenarios.
  14. FFG said that they will add new scenarios in addition to those translated from the French version. At this I would just be ahppy if FFG made any announcement about the game...
  15. J0shjames said: Many reviews i've read say the simplicity borders on boring but perhaps they're hoping for too much? So to wrap up this long winded post, is Tannhauser a solid FFG game that's shorter and simpler than most? Well, to start with, Tannhauser is not an original FFG boardgame. It was developped by the now defunct French game company Take On You and the IP was bought by FFG last year. At this time the game mechanics are still those developed by the original authors (V1 rules) but a new streamlined and update rulebook is planned by FFG with no release date set (V2 rules) However all game component will be compatible and the said rulebook will be available for free as a PDF. Now on the game itself, I guess it all depends on what you will do with your game. In the base set there is four game mode Death Match, Capture the Flag, Domination and Story. Death Match is just that, killing the opposite team. Capture the Flag and Domination are slightly more tactical and Story is imho slightly broken as is. Where the game truly shines is when you start to play scenarios with specific objectives like those included in later Campaign (Novgorod, Daedalus) and in the Single Packs. The French editor release all the scenarios from the printed products (except Daedalus) as PDF and provided updates when they felt it was needed. A number of scenarios exclusive to the website were also released. All of them featured point-based victory conditions. When FFG started releasing scenarios in 2008, some being translations and some being original creations, the point based victory conditions were discarded over major/minor victory conditions. From my point of view Tannhäuser is rich game with no game session being like the other. To experience this richness you have to access to the various bonus token and the expansion pack. Also if you want fast action play Death Match, however the gameplay will feel repetitive until you start to play other game type, especially some of the more innovative scenarios.
  16. DoctorDR said: Yeah, I was trying to dig up the vassal mod for tannhauser.. it is no longer on the website!!! does anyone know if it is hosted anywhere legit? You can access all of Take On You archives by visiting the new version of the Black Sheep Archives (www.blacksheeparchives.net). The Vassal module is in "Downloads > Tannhäuuser > Vassal". This is not a standalone game, you still need VASSAL to use the module. Also there is not automated action, you need a copy of the rules to play the game through Vassal AND it's only in French.
  17. Las update about the V2 rules dates from early december. I guess that the Tannhauser brand is less appealing that the Warhammer / Terinoth brands.
  18. Every new product is on hold until the V2 rules are released. This include all the ready-to-be-released former TOY products like Daedalus, Singles packs, Minotaur Mega Single Pack and Troop Pack. There no mention of reprinting the base set with the new rulebook however.

    Tann-Prequel

Well Tannhäuser is not a single player game at all. Right now it works best as a one-on-one game, and with some adjustment as a three player game. If you want to play solo, you'll have to create rules to script the opposing faction actions...
  20. It's fixed. The problem is that the .jar filetype wasn't recognized as an authorized download type so I just zipped it.
  21. You can access all of Take On You archives by visiting the new version of the Black Sheep Archives (www.blacksheeparchives.net). To access the download section simply click on the left hand menu "Téléchargements" item, the "Archives T.O.Y." From there you can access all the downloadable content I was able to save from Take On You former site. Since I haven't had the time to make an English version here's a rough translation of the categories: "Arsenal de l'Union": Union new tokens and alternate packages. "Arsenal du Reich": Reich new tokens and alternate packages. "Arsenal du Matriarcat": Matriarchy new tokens and alternate packages. "Arsenal des Mercenaires": Mercenaries new tokens. "Arsenal commun": new tokens usable by any faction. "Logistique": rulebooks, faqs, cheat sheets, tactical maps, ... "Jeu de plateau communautaire": rules, campaign maps and other ressources releated to the organized play. "Scénarios": the official Take On You scenarios for Tannhäuser organized play. The Vassal module however is NOT in the archives section but in the "Tannhäuuser > Vassal" category. Some files from TOY may be missing (especially wallpapers) but I have them and they will be added on a later date.
  22. While I understand the decision FFG made to bring all new products under the V2 rules, I still think it was a mistake. Should they have not done this, they could have taken their time working on the new rules and rapidly release Daedalus (2 new maps, a handfull of scenarios) and release in ealry 2010 the 3 single packs which were already finalized by late Take on You. Instead we have to wait an hypothetical update... sad, sad, sad.
  23. The Butcher said: I think a new map on the back side of the Daedalus map would be awesome. It's what is planned. The Gevaudan Outpost map layout which won last year FFG pathfinding contest will be printed on the back of the Daedalus map. The reason Take On You did reprint the base set maps on the backside of Novgorod and Daedalus was to give to the French players who bought the very first version of the game a better map. In fact in the the first release of the base set the map was not foldable but in four sections which had a bad habit to buckle up. Since the English version started with the foldable map there is no real need of re-releasing the map.
  24. C) Use of VP against 'strafe' would be dependant on the target being alive at the end of the attack No. If Eva roll one or more Natural 10 on her Combat Roll when she attacks with Strafe, the target is denied a Shock Roll and thus cannot use VP to cancel wounds as per the rule listed page 19. After making a Shock Roll, if your character does not die immediately, you can heal one or more wounds. Each Victory Point spent lets you move your Health Indicator Token up one row. This rule make any attack that deny Shock Roll a real threat. Tokens exploiting this: Union: Bomb Brothers (Ramirez), Bouncing Betty(Ramirez) Reich: Strafe (Eva), Poison (Yula), Sha-Na-Ra (Von Heizinger), Eye of Horus (Von Heizinger) Matriarchy: Meteop Token (Irishka) in combination with a direct or indirect Magnifier Attack (Zor'Ka), or trigerred by a Volt-Nagan (Irina) or Volta Pistol (Irishka), Soud (Voivods) Mercenary: Wolftrap
