And by lots you mean 10. I can't seem to find anything good on there, other than Asylum Packs. www.eaglecard.org has some...but it's based in Australia and I don't know how much shipping would be for the States.
-
Thank you! This is what I thought, but I wasn't sure if that was part of the cost or not.
-
Love the box art, but the card seems meh. The ability is pretty vanilla... I'm pretty new though, so perhaps I underestimate her.
-
Can you still play this card if you do not have any characters on board? Therefore it basically is a removal for 1, without any drawback if your field is empty?
-
Yeah, that's what I'm looking for...like a couple sample decks from everyone's local meta. I'll look around for the Stahleck report...
-
Sorry to jump in here, but most of the things that happen in this game don't make much sense...Cthulhu sporting a shotgun, Deep Ones going insane etc.
-
Now I know a lot of metas with this game are local, but it's very tough to find any information on this game and its popular decks at all. I would like to see this thread as a gathering for people to discuss their local metas and what is popular. How about giving examples of popular archetypes and what those archetypes might look like by posting a sample decklist. Fast aggro? Combo? Mill? Control? What is good right now and why? Why isn't?

So many questions for rules that are not listed...

Okay that was a bad example. What if one character makes it so Combat is done first within the struggle series. Then another character at the same story makes it so Arcane is done first within the series.... Like when two effects that affect the same thing are constant....how do you handle that? -
I'm pretty sure you would still lose...I could be wrong though. The card doesn't say "If Azathoth is still in play at the end of the turn, you lose the game"

Okay so what if Struggling Artist is in play and is committed to a story. This causes Arcane to be done first in the struggle sequence. Then what if some other character is committed to the same story that she is, and it says something similar. I can't find any other cards that say this. But basically what I'm saying is...if two characters abilities contradict each other in play, especially when committed to a story, how is that resolved? Like what if a card says, while this character is committed to a story, all other characters you control gain "Fast." Then the opponent commits a character that says, while committed to a story, all characters your opponent controls loses "Fast?" -
Can Azothoth be destroyed in any regular manner?

I haven't played all the factions yet, but so far I'm a shub-niggurath player. I just love searching my deck for stuff. I'm currently playing a Shub/Yog deck built off a couple APs and the core set. It's just lots of recursion and resource building with Eat the Dead. It's basically just all my yog and shub cards thrown together hah...
-
Oh my goodness...was that a real card in the CCG? That seems just absolutely insane to me... I guess it wouldn't be useful against fast decks, but ****...

Okay now I'm starting to understand it. There are separate windows where you are able to play responses. This article helped me a lot... http://chris-long.com/cthulhu/cthulhuGlossary.cfm -
I posted a few of these over at Gameboadgeek forums, but not all have been answered yet. I figured I would post them all here for anyone else inquiring about such things. 1. Are there starting hand mulligans? 2. Are there sideboards allowed in tournaments? (Chris Long answered 'No' to both of these questions.) Here are a couple others that haven't been cleared up... 3. Is there a limit to your hand size? 4. How long of a window do you have to activate a response trigger? End of phase? I ask this, because you can't always immediately activate a response trigger if you don't have priority. So for instance, could i activate a response at the end of the entire turn, even though the requirements were met during the first phase? Or do I only have until the end of the phase that the requirement was met in to trigger the response?
-
I'm not sure about that though...page 13 of the rulebook states "Note that a response may take effect multiple times if multiple copies of that effect are in play (but still only once per card trigger)" How long do you have before you the requirements of a response trigger have worn off?

I replied to your post over at BoardGameGeeks, but I will add something here as well. Sharing one core set is perfectly fine for starters. After a couple days worth of playing though, you will definitely want to grab some AP's. The only thing I don't like about the game so far is, sometimes the abilities of characters or card effects can be complex. Like... Activate this ability if this happens, and then do this to this type of character if he has this and its lower than yours....or whatever. It gets hard to follow sometimes. Overall I'm really enjoying it though to be honest. I love how each faction does something well and pretty much sticks with it. So if you enjoy searching your deck a lot, then you will want to play Shub-Nigurath. If you like stopping the opponent from playing cards, then you want Hastur etc. Vermillian, I definitely think you are missing out on some of the finer aspects of the game, if you think each turn is restricted. With only the core set and a few Asylum Packs in my collection, I was already building decks that were solid and were able to go toe to toe and not be restricted in any regular manner. There is plenty of strategy in my opinion, with what stories to hit and how and when to hit them. The bottom line is, I've had the game for 2 days now, and I'm completely hooked. Just my two cents...

PRODIGEE said: This point was debated a long time ago, but if I do remember well, resolution occurs if characters are removed, because there was a character that gets commited in a story at the step "Active players commits his character" of the story phase. Thus the story must be resolved. The problem of the inmate being that the owner of the character cannot uncommit it, so he has no "commitment step" to start the resolution for the story concerned. That's why b) stated that there need to be at least one character committed to a story by the active player in a way the story to resolve, as the "resolution step" depends on the existence of the "commitment step". That made zero sense to me Okay, so let's say I commit 3 characters to the story The Call of Cthulhu, including Obsessive Inmate. Let's say the opponent places no characters on their side, therefore I go unchallenged, and win 3 success tokens. After I win all the struggles, does every character uncommit except for the inmate? Then during the entire next turn of the opponents, the Inmate just stays committed to that story?!

I have only played a few games so far and I think I'm hooked. I love the mechanics and the struggle system is very interesting. I've played maybe magic for quite a while, off and on since I was in the 7th grade. I definitely appreciate the no mana/gold-screw. Also Deck building seems pretty fun, but I haven't gotten into that quite yet.

I really can't wait for this new expansion. I am attempting to spread the word of this game to other friends... Soon...Cthulhu will rise again... ...as a respectable card game...
-
Any word on when this is coming out?

I would totally want to see Domain cards come back...

I think FFG ignoring rules questions, or any other question for that matter is grounds for me to say I wish they would support the fan base more. -

Okay, so is it even worth it for me to buy the game or attempt to get into it? Honestly? Will the game pick up more? Also, what exactly is The Secrets of Arkham Expansion? It seems bigger than the others? It also has new story cards? I thought the ten original story cards were the main ones used and only ones used? Hell, I don't even know why I'm bothering but I love Call of Cthulhu that much, I really wish FFG would support this game... FFG, if you're reading this, you should seriously support this game. I have bought every Arkham Horror product off of you guys, and have been loyal in doing so. I have spread the word of Arkham Horror to many a people as well. This game seems to have the potential to take off... Darknight, why was the game dead in the water? What killed it off? -

darknight said: i see a lot of people either not returning or just lurking, i think a lot for me and some others is we were spoilt with the ccg with sooo many cards where here we have to wait for a while before we get that sort of card pool. the ffg front page has the above that marius posted, and is a good place to look, but i agree it would be nice to get "little tasters" now and then. So how how old is the LCG? It is still fairly new correct? So basically the card pool isn't nearly the same as it used to be? I mean of course the CCG was out for a while, but hasn't the LCG been out long enough to gain a following...I guess I get so confused between the CCG and the LCG and how players responded to it, why they changed it, how it affected the game itself, etc. I know the difference between them with the Asylum packs etc. but I guess I don't understand how it affected the community and why...even Wikipedia is slack on detailed info in terms of what happened when and why and how it affected things. Did FFG always own the Call of Cthulhu CCG and then just turn it into an LCG for whatever reason?
