  1.  I had a similar question to this in regards to attaching Tear Gas to the pillar when it is committed to a story. I think when it uncommits, it returns to being just a support card. I don't think the character "left play." When it hits the discard pile it hits it as a Support card. I'm pretty sure it's only considered a character while committed to a story. I could definitely be wrong though.

  2. MU doesn't have many (if any) willpower characters. I can't think of any off the top of my head. But a mono faction deck really restricts the decks ability. The cardpool at the moment isn't large enough to accompany such decks. MU could easily get paired up with any other faction though...in fact, I think MU is the only faction seriously lacking any defense against Terror other than the occasional attachment (Sleeping Pills)

  3.  I am working on my new fan site and want to get a collection of deck lists, so I come here humbly to ask you all to help. What I need are deck lists from Worlds 2009, or just deck lists that are generally tier 1. I always hear about the Hastur/Agency w/ Dogs and Descendant deck, but no one has given me a basic rundown of one. I want to form a website where people can go for a quick rundown of decks of all types. Most of them I am just grabbing from the forums here, but I cannot find any "Tier 1" decks. To be honest I just need any lists I can get my hands on. I hope I can get some help from all you guys, it would be really appreciated! I'm going to launch the site within the next week, but need to get more deck lists. Thanks!

So to make a long post short, can anyone give me some good deck lists they would like me to post on my new website? Specifically the Hastur/Agency+Dogs+Descendant deck?

  4. Well I think even as a base character, for what you get his cost is ridiculously low it seems. 4 icons, willpower AND fast...for 3 resources. This is not even including the ability he has...Oh, and to top it off, he has transient.

The only drawback I see, is the one you mentioned, which is the discard of a success token.

  5. Hmm, I'm not trying to point any fingers, or anything of the sort. All I'm saying, is FFG printed this card...did they not listen to the play testers? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they said something along the lines of "Hey this is way overpowered, don't print it." To me this is a mild assumption considering that people have to restrict it for their games to be "fun." I definitely understand why you would want to do so. If every deck is just Dogs + Descendant, that can get very redundant, but that's my point, is FFG doing anything to help sway these decks? You mentioned some cards that help...I'm still pretty new and am not familiar with any of them at the moment. Thanks for the replies everyone, I didn't realize it would spark such a debate, it just happened to come up one day as I pulled Descendant from my latest Asylum Pack and read him, realizing how GOOD he actually he is. I also only have one of him in my deck, and he pretty much usually steals the game as soon as he shows up.

  6. Hey everyone, I just uploaded a video of my friend and I playing a match using Agency/Syndicate and Cthulhu/Hastur. It comes complete with a commentary of play by play. You can watch it here... :)

Also, I am working on a website called The Cards Are Right. If anyone would like to donate any articles, or deck lists, or anything at all actually, I would love to put it up on to the site. The site is actually near completion, and I would post here when it is up. The video will be also on the site. Right now I am just using a very basic layout, and if anyone knows how to code, that would be a HUGE help to me. Other than the French site, there aren't really any English sites other than Chris-Long's with information, so I figured I would make one. If anyone would like to help out, please let me know! Thanks!

  7. Okay...so that's really the only answer, to have the servitors ban the card? That's pretty ridiculous. So your saying FFG has printed a card that defines the entire metagame of Call of Cthulhu, and if you don't have it in your deck, you lose. Also, games come down to merely who draws him first...

Hearing things like this just makes me doubt the games credibility when it comes to competitions.

  8.  I'm with you on the Thing On The Doorstep, that story just creeped me out and has the best opening line in any short horror story I've read. On the contrary, I Whisperer In Darkness is in my top 5. The ending where he goes downstairs and finds...well I won't give anything away, but it literally gave me chills!

  9.  Okay I'm new as well, but I feel as if I could answer your questions, or at least comment on the situation.

First off, the cards you were playing with were from the Collectible Card Game, not the Living Card Game which is its current state. The CCG cards were its original incarnation in 2004. In 2008, the game was "Rebooted" so to speak, and made into what's not called a Living Card Game. This differs from its original form for a few reasons. The LCG has white bordered cards, as opposed to the black borders of the CCG. Also, the CCG and LCG cards are not meant to be played together, which if I'm not mistaken, you both were playing with what's called "Mixed-border" decks. The backs of the cards are also different.

Currently, the LCG is the only supported "format" if you want to even call it that. The game is too new to even have formed any formats yet, since it's only been out for a little over a year.

Now on to the game itself. The neutral cards you listed, such as Descendant of Eibon and Mentor to Vaughn, were both created by two World Champion players (as prizes for them winning the tournament.) These cards are also insanely good. The factions themselves do have very clear flavors. I think what was happening was either...

    1. Your friend knew the game better than you, and was not following the golden rule of bringing in new players (Always let the player win the first game)

    2. You were playing with both CCG and LCG cards, which created an imbalance in the game. The LCG cards were not created to play nice with the old overpowered cards.

    3. He just had a better deck than you, since he obviously created it, using some of the best cards. As opposed to your deck, which was thrown together hastily by a new inexperienced player.

    Or any combination of those...

Even if I'm mistaken, and you were playing with only the CCG cards, your opponent seemed to have a much better deck and grasp on what was going on.

So I would say don't let this turn you off of the game. To get into the game properly, you're going to want to buy the Core Set. This will give you 150+ cards to work with and give you a good feel of each faction. From there, buy a few Asylum Packs, which are basically the games "booster packs." Except the Asylum Packs have a fixed selection of cards, instead of randomized like a Collectible Card Game, hence the change over to the "Living Card Game" format.

    I hope this helped.
