  1. Good luck buddy, really rooting for you, send me an email when you get the chance, haven't heard from you in so long (well, I did get your message that you sent to everyone, but e a linne sometime anyways )
  2. It's funny that you should mention this, because I've been meaning to ask people for help designing my character card for having won UK Nationals in September, as I'm really struggling to think of ideas that would work and not be too powerful. So why not ask for help where I know people play and could help? All I know is that I want the following: .Joe Hill. 7/18 Good/Order/Life And that the abilities need to encourage blocking weak attacks while still keeping the fear that a bigger one might be coming at any time, like Donovan who drew off his smaller attacks before killing with a bigger one, or Xianghua, who gets foundations added to her staging area if nothing is done to stop her weaker attacks. I was thinking of something along the lines of... E: If your attack deals damage, your next attack this turn gets +x speed. X equals 5 minus the damage your attack dealt. Looking at the current meta, this means that I could be run in an Ivy/Christie style, with a smaller boost from 3 damage attacks off Life. Or I could go the Order route and use Pommel Smash to push into something much bigger. Or off Good, I could use something like Flash Needle to save all the speed up for one big, but difficult attack after that. This first ability reminds me of both Donovan:. and a favourite of mine who I felt was very underplayed: Cassandra:: For a second ability, I was unsure of what I could use. I'm pretty sure draw power is a nogo considering my handsize and the Order resource giving me a lot to have anyway, but I would have liked to have had some sort of drawing ability. If not that, then a card pool clearing or readying ability would be really appealing, as they would remind me of my two favourite characters: Xianghua:. and Donovan:., however, this is where I struggle to figure out a decent level of balance without breaking the character or turning it awful. Having a character like Donovan:. would be ridiculous in this format, I'm aware. But I like the way he and Xianghua got something out of playing a non-attack to cause something else to happen before you might start your attack string. This is where I need help most. I need ideas for something I can get out of playing a non-attack (i.e. R: After you play a non-attack...). This would be very much appreciated, and I thought it might help to get a nice discussion going at the same time .
  3. Well, it'll take me about this long to save up the money again. And yeah, I expect to get twice as many people twice as drunk next year
  4. I wouldn't be adverse to purging the General Discussion forums once in a while apart from stickied threads, just to clean out the junk. And while you're at it, could we get some new avatars please? I'd love a nice Xianghua picture next to my name
  5. Bump If you think I'm letting this go, you've another thing coming
  6. Yes, very very yes Take it from someone else who has also done this. It works. 100%. If you actually ask people whether they'd fancy trying a new game, more often than not they'll say yes. Try a local games club that plays Magic or Yugioh and play the infiltrating game I've got a Yugi deck and a Magic deck now which people have built for me, because I've helped people to do the same for UFS. You see? Everyone wins
  7. Anyone have any ideas as to when either of these data sites are being updated to include Quest For Souls yet? T'would be very useful for new deckbuilding
  8. I probably will be needing help with some of these things from both the UK and the US, so any help would be appreciated. If you've got any other ideas, they'd be really helpful. Also, dark, having read your character articles, I think they're great and that you should carry on doing them. You've got a good insight into the details and know how to start up a discussion (you'll note that your Sophitia one's really picked up recently ) Anyone who wants to can hit me up on MSN using joe_hill24@hotmail.co.uk or on AIM using ViewtifulJoee if you want to chat about anything. I do use MSN more often out of the two though, just to let you know
  9. I'm copying this over from what I had posted on the UK forum, to see if this can apply to people overseas too. "Over the past couple of weeks, I and a good few others hae been coming up with ideas to try to make the UK UFS forums a more lively place, to spread word of mouth further and make people more aware of UFS' existence and grandeur. I have believed for a while that word of mouth is a great way of creating new players and playerbases, and is also a great way of restoring lost faith, in showing that the community is well worth sticking around for. Our community has fallen far too silent of late, and I think it's about time we changed that. The internet is a great way of spreading the word, as such, and therefore our forums are a great place to direct people who show the slightest bit of interest, or, at least, they should be. Having spoken to a few people about this, we've collectively come up with a few fantastic ideas to put forward, and hopefully more of these will come to fruition than not: * A regular top 10 list for people to post their own lists onto, such as favourite foundations, characters, attacks or most hated of the above. * A playtesting blog to see the interactions between 2 characters for people to comment on. * A learn-to-play video that teaches new players how to play and to have somewhere to direct those people to start the ball rolling. * A video that displays the sort of games or tournaments that occur to show people in plain sight how they go. * Character discussions that mirror those of the General Discussion boards, but specific to those who play in the UK with the occasional US input rather than the other way round. * More frequent tournaments, and therefore more frequent tournament reports * Registering tournaments under forum name rather than real name, to improve number of people registered on the forums. These ideas are to name a few, and any other suggestions are more than welcome, anything that makes people want to post on here more often. Besides, it's less a way to talk about UFS as it is a way to talk to eachother in general. " I was told to post on the forums and write more often, and so I shall if it'll help. Sad as it might sound, I actually find myself owing quite a lot to UFS, so I would like to give back a little bit. I wouldn't have a lot of the friends I have if it weren't for UFS. I wouldn't have met anyone from across the UK, let alone the US (which I still claim was one of the best weekends of my entire life). I wouldn't even be with my other half of well over a year if it weren't for UFS. So forgive me if I come across as kissing UFS' behind at times, but honestly, I think it's well deserved, even if other people don't. I love this game, and I'm not afraid to say it at any given point.

Quoted for truth. The state of these forums are nothing more than diabolical at the moment, and I'll probably be posting the same thing I posted onto the Uk forum earlier on today so that I can try and get my point across. I am by no means saying that people shouldn't be able to voice their opinions on cards or anything like that. But starting well over a year ago, with only specific points in time changing anything (Worlds, Nats etc) everyone's negativity well and truly turn people off the forums, and the game as well. The problem is that there aren't enough people being positive about things often enough. I know I've been called an ass-kisser for being like it, as have other people. Quite frankly I applaud people like Antigoth and Halbard100 who are always positive when they come on here, and I'd like to think people saw me the same way in the positive sense. People bitched about Scubadude and continue to do so about some individuals on the forums even now, but they would be nothing if it weren't for people voicing their opinions as they do. The biggest problem is the lack of balance. It shouldn't be too difficult, however, to change that. Like I said, I've been coming up with ideas to try and revitalise the forums megatime in the UK, so hopefully it'll spread beyond that eventually... How about this write something. Put some freaking articles up. Come on the boards more often and be that force of being postive. Give back. You don't have to be super forum mod but do something. Alright then, deal. You can hold me to that, how bout that?

Nemesis said: With the attacks, using Soaring Dance to fuel Flash Needle to kill and to make sure they hit Amys E would be required, Also instead of Flash Needle there is Dragon Lifter which with Amy and OCTR in play will be a high 12 for 8 dmg which stings against the other 7 hand characters e.g. Kisheri, Xianghua and Padma. But my faviroute combo for the deck is using Amy, OCTR and To the End of the Earth/Valkyrja's Sheild on there block then reversal with Triple Botta in Tempo and using its Combo E to boost the difficulty of there next card and due to the Breaker from Amy OCTR and VS it will be alot harder to block it. With Ostreinsburg Castle out, Dragon Lifter's a little more powerful than that (worryingly) Dragon Lifer: +4M block. 3H4 OCTR:+2M = +6M Combo E: +6 Damage - 3H10 E + Amy's E: 12H10 And yes, having played your Amy with my X, she's a cow, hope you're proud of yourself!

Uh, I did that, and enjoyed every second of it, but there we go. I think the reason a lot of people are starting to feel this way is because there's nothing really going on on the forums. I've been saying this about the UK UFS forum, which has been bone dry for a while, purely because a lot of people who do play don't like using the forums. I reckon that it's really quite important to revive the community online so that it doesn't feel so doom and gloom all the time. There's loads of things that people can talk about, and we need to get more people on here so that word of mouth can spread properly, bringing the new players back in. I'm hoping that we can grab FFG's attention a little more with this, because I really would be quite upset if the game were to die out. I think there must still be quite a lot we can do to prevent that from happening.

  15. Well, I know people haven't been posting reports on here for a little while, so I thought I'd post one up on here for the pre-release at the weekend First of all, this set is the SEX. Power curve has risen a bit, which I felt was needed, we have slightly less monotonous characters (apart from maybe Mitsurugi, but he's simple and does it exceptionally well, more on that in a bit) and a mass of really well thought out support. There were 8 players present for this tournament, who were myself, Dan, Ricky, Alex, Glen, Ray, Craig and Nick (the first 4 of which being from Colchester) Ricky manages to pull a god pack from his Quest For Souls boosters and we all end up with at least one character, so no Uni Fighters for us! I myself pulled Mitsurugi, along with a very generous helping from my boosters, including 4 Needs a Challenge, 2 Mist Stance, 3 The Strength Within, 2 Playful and 14 High attacks all of which matched Mitsurugi's symbols. My first round was against Ricky, who had pulled Dhalsim from his Warrior's Dream packs. Round 1 vs. Dhalsim - 2-0 Win Ricky pulled out Impossible Contortion on me, which provided something of a problem, considering Mitsurugi's focus on damage pumps. He also threw out really rather big throws like Hip Buster and Flooded Nile Throw with Big Dreams boosts that very nearly killed me on both games! However, Mitsurugi's big strings of 7+ damage attacks proved to be a real pain for him in return... My second round was against Glen, who had pulled Xianghua.... Round 2 vs. Xianghua - 2-0 Win NOOO! I had to play against my baby! I didn't want to bash Xianghua! She's the character I wanted in the first place! *sigh*. Anyway, I was on the brink of death due to Xianghua's very fast setup and fast attacks, such as Seal and Tiao Wu Kick. Although her 18 health got the better of her once Mist Stance hit the table... My final round was against Alex, who had pulled other characters but decided to stick with his promo Yun-Seong Round 3 vs. Yunseong - 2-0 Win Somehow I always end up playing my better half during UFS tournaments for some reason... I'd seen what Yun-Seong had done in the previous rounds, and getting double time out of your foundations is always something to be feared. I however found out very quickly that Yun-Seong struggles without momentum, and in a prerelease format, the only way to really gain it is to attack, so I played very reservedly and left blocks n my hand for every zone, knowing that he'd play Needs A Challenge (which is nowhere near as broken as you might think) and left all the attacks in my hand for a final kill turn. And thats how it all went. Honestly, my views on the set are really very positive, and I hope evrybody else appreciates it the same way I do. I can say that Yoshimitsu isn't as broken as he looks, but Mitsurugi is exceptionally dangerous if played in the right hands. The prerelease format wasn't partcicularly kind to Taki or Amy, so I can't really comment on how they are, although having played Dan's recently built Amy deck, she's bloody irritating so sy the least!
