  1. I personally prefer to wait and see the whole set and let the card in question play for a bit to see if it is truly as impactful and toxic as people are making it out to be. Before jumping to conclusions based on a third of the cards spoiled and some games played with just those cards let's see the whole set and let the game get played for a little bit. Also, just based on seeing what I've seen with still a whole lot more to come hand destruction is going to be a thing. That in itself may be enough to control this card.

  2. Not sure if this has been brought up but in Game of Thrones if the card is canceled it is not considered played. I am unsure baout the other FFG games but in that one successfully played  is when it resolves completely. I would think FFG's own game would be better to compare from than a WotC game. Also  Game of Thrones was designed by the same person as Star Wars.

I just thought I'd point this out for anyone that's carrying this to an extreme:

Either of these events failing is good for absolutely none of us.

You're correct but FFG is forcing decisions that could lead to one failing. Some and maybe many more can only attend one of these and the planning for Gencon had to be completed before their announcement. I think everyone would be fine if they would have announced it in January. I am pretty certain that they knew their plans for this in January. It isn't something that just popped up.

  4.  I am fine with the location and time of year. If it makes it easier for FFG and the OP gets better then it is fine. My issue comes with the timing of the announcement. FFG is well aware of the preplanning required for Gencon. If they announce this in January there is no harm. The problem is that Gencon from an attendees standpoint needs to be planned once hotel registration opens. It is just bad form to wait until after that to announce this change. As said before It should have been announced for 2013.

Would anyone go for a Kennon's Corner segment where I take 5 or 10 minutes every couple episodes to talk about a different LCG?

I'd be down with that, of course I'm crazy and play and collect all 4 LCGs, not sure how many others have trouble with game buying impulse control like I do :D

Since I got married, I got the best game buying impulse control system on the market...*sigh*

    Having Kids works even better.

  6. Yes you can get the Witcher series sort of. The publisher went from Last Wish to Blood of Elves and omitted Sword of Destiny. It is a shame that they made that decision. Sword of Destiny is missed.

On Amber I was hooked from the start. I don't remember it starting slow and I reread it 8 months ago. I believe it starts of very fast.

I am a Tolkien fan but I would only place Two Towers in my top 100 and near the bottom at best maybe not at all. Great world realization but not great books. There are far too many excellent books to think that Tolkien's works are that good. He had/has a great impact on the genre but that does not equal great writing. I think we allow nostalgia to color our view of how great things are. We remember things better than they were actually pulled off. I challenge you to read your favorite Tolkien book and read a book by one of your other favorites authors and compare them side by side. There will be a huge difference.

On author recommendations. Jennifer Fallon is a fantastic Austrailian author.

Actually it doesn't keep people playing. Basically if you lose the you are done and cannot win.

Perhaps I'm confused then, I thought it was talking about just going with whoever had the best record after X number of games, not single elimination. I mean it would likely get to a point where you know you won't take top spot but at least you could still play even if you know 1st isn't going to you.

At these types of tournament people will drop. In swiss you play to 1 undefeated (normally). So if you crown the winner after swiss as the winner of the tournament you are basically playing single elimination. A bad round draw wise could end your tourney real quick. At conventions like Gencon it will be single elim then because there is so much else to do. In your case you are changing large tournaments from competitive to casual. You would most likely get a lot less attendance and travel to play in the tournament.

I prefer this format for tournaments personally, it keeps everyone playing and having fun the whole time. However I don't know that it would make collusion any less desirable/possible, although I don't think it is a problem in general.

Actually it doesn't keep people playing. Basically if you lose the you are done and cannot win. Top eight gives a chance to get back in after a loss or two depending on tournament size. I personally have lost out to top 8 due to collusion and I have no issue with it. I should have played better in the game I lost. In other games I have been conceded games for numerous reasons and others have too. This is the only game where this seems to come up as a problem amongst the community.

Anyone wondered why Will was not killed by white walker? I hate when filmmakers change facts. (and "white walker" term - was it in the book? I read translation, so I don't know)

Well it was mentioned in one of the interviews with Martin that Will would not be killed by the Others. So I was expecting it and therefore not taken off guard. They are the Others in the book. There is no official response as to why it was changed to the White Walkers. Some speculate that it is because they of the ABC show Lost and their use of the Others.
