  1. Hey guys really new to Battlelore..in fact I have not even purchased it yet. BUT..I have a buddy who is in love with Memoir '44 he has 2 of almost every expansion. Is that recomended for B2e? How much of what should I purchase if I want to have every legal combination for every army? Thanks in advance! Tex
  2. Just wanted to point out that the Arwyn "Hero" in your deck would be completely neutered by the Arwyn Ally and Objective cards should they be in play before your hero came up. I think the above best illustrates why all spheres should not be able to do all things. LotR is a game where you have to constantly change your deck based on scenario. IMO it is best to have a core deck Idea, like playing a Tactics based deck, with what is commonly known as a side board. This game is meant for players to collaborate to build decks to defeat scenarios. It is not in the spirit of the game to have 1 sphere or deck be able to do all things. That is where I see the failing of so many of your cards. They break that spirit of the game and thus the mechanics. All except your last card. I do like it I think tweeks are in order for it but it definitely fits the Tactics theme.

I appreciate the OP thread as it is showing his interest in the game. He is trying to address known issues and Kudos for him. All I was attempting to do was show him the error of his thinking and put him on the right track. He is a Tactics fan, GREAT, but everything revealed so far for tactics has not addressed Threat management but Enemy and to a lesser degree Quest management. Referring to me as a troll in any way is totally inappropriate and quite frankly, is a reportable offense. I disagreed with you, period. I did not disparage your opinions in any way. Your welcome to your opinion as I am entitled to mine. Take a moment to read what you wrote above. You feel that the OP needs to shown the error in his thinking and be put on the right track? Get over yourself. All of your posts have added nothing to the conversation and only attacked the poster. You attacked my post in an ,assumed, attempt to de-evaluate anything I had said. You then,IMO, attacked Big Jim needlessly about his, disparaging remark. Yet still not adding anything of benefit to the OP that pertained to his thread. Now this. Once again you derail the topic just to make a point and add nothing to the original. Stay on topic and address the topic. Try to help Boris out instead of all of this extra crap. That is what I mean when I say, "You are coming off as a troll." Boris, I can have a deck list for you to try in a bit if you like it is Tactics heavy focusing on dwarves. I built it to compliment the posted Dwarf Deck from FFG but it has shown some promise as a solo deck on it's own. I am also working on a Secrecy deck using Boromir. but it is still early to do anything with.
  4. Boris if that is what you took away from the discussions then I feel sorry for you. 3 months of game play is nothing. No one was attacking you personally, Except maybe MightyJim…. Did you even read the good things I said about you? Did you recognize that I was trying to support you? Did you notice how besides Moses everyone else agreed with me? Hell Budgernaut and BigShow even helped out, which I think were fairly solid suggestions, especially Budgernaut. Also if you don't look to Tactics in solo play then you are missing out on a few good themes. No one sphere has an answer for everything and theme is very important to each of those spheres. it is how they operate. Take another 3 months of playing, rip the cards a new one and you will see where the themes lie and don't. I only hated 1 of your suggestions which I noted. The others, although way op, were right for other spheres but you wanted them for Tactics. When you post an opinion piece people are going to give you their opinions and in some cases their educated opinion which I was trying to do, I've been playing for a year. I am sorry for not jumping on your bandwagon but as I said now in 3 posts I was trying to help you get to the Tactics vein of thinking for the cards you offered up for the Tactics sphere, which again, I applaud your effort and enthusiasm. When having a discussion of this nature arguments should be "point/counterpoint". I offered up my points. Rather than take it personally and get snippy, you could have offered up counterpoints but now, for me ,you have undermined what I thought was a great, creative, open to ideas and discussion person and revealed something not appealing at all. Obviously you took offense but I will not apologize any more.
  5. For me it is a force of Habit/OCD thing. I must sleeve the cards I am going to play with. I sleeve all of the Quests in cheap penny sleeves just because they do get handled. All of the cards for the Quest Deck get sleeved because I have horrible organization skills and just throw the cards back in the box when I am done rather than sort them out and put them up. Lastly I sleeve my Decks because I play a lot, shuffle and fiddle with my cards constantly. The rest of the sphere card I leave unsleeved because I only break them out during deck building. I use the FFG 50 count clear sleeves for standard card sizes and they only run me 3 bucks and 100 count penny sleeves that cost me 1 dollar. I don't/won't use the art sleeves until there is a tournament scene.
  6. Moses, you are coming off as a troll just trying to start fights. There is no need for that. Enemy management already allows Tactics to wound enemies in the staging area and other locations. Legolas and Blade of Gondolin allows tactics to manage Quests to a degree. This is the vein that Tactics cards should run in, most importantly IMO. Sorry OP if I offended you in any way.
  7. Boris_the_Dwarf said: 1. The Last Alliance cost 1 Tactics Event Play only during the planning phase. Reduce your threat by 2 for each ally card you play this phase. This plays into one of the few strengths of the Tactics sphere - the ability to collect a great number of resource tokens while you wait for the right moment to play specific cards. You can drop a whole handful of cheap allies on a single turn and reduce your threat to a manageable level. I don' t like this idea at all. to me it is counter intuitive. Sure there is strength in numbers and you are able to handle anything. I get that for the threat reduction but at the same time the more people you have the more attention you will draw so then the threat would go right back up. Just does not fit for tactics. Boris_the_Dwarf said: 2. Council Summons cost 5 Neutral EventSearch your deck and discard pile for any 3 ally cards with different names and put them into play with 2 progress tokens on them. Those allies cannot quest, attack, or defend while they have progress tokens on them. During the refresh phase, you may move 1 progress token onto any location. This would allow you to mix up the spheres a little more than is currently possible without "mana fixing." Turn 2 drop in 3 guys. Turn four they activate. I don' t like it. Sure i will play 3 spheres and then I get to cherry pick my 6+ cost guys and drop them into play. While all that is going on Turn 3 and 4 I will buy more cheap allies and have an army turn 4. Just over powered. Too Over Powered. Boris_the_Dwarf said: 3. Arwen Undomiel 6 Threat Hero Leadership3 Willpower/ 0 Attack/ 2 Defense Arwen Undomiel can't be chosen as one of your starting heroes and is instead shuffled into the player deck at the start of the game. Raise your threat by 6 minus the number of players to play this card from your hand. Resource tokens from characters you control may be spent as though they were of any sphere. Very powerful, but the tradeoff is you have to actually draw her and then raise your threat. Her threat is the lowest in the game and she can quest. She also provides mana fixing. This is just a horrible Idea. Especially with the amount of threat manipulation in the game her draw back become moot. Combine that with the search functions in the game already. and she become another broken card. Then she is a hero so you can safely sacrifice one of your heroes and not really feel the pain of it? I get the theme and think Isee what you are trying to do. She shows up to save the day/Hobbit out of no where at the last minute and conducts a heroic rescue ala Movie and Leadership. The book is a bit different. Boris_the_Dwarf said: 4. The Art of War t cost 2 Tactics Attachment Restricted. Attach only to a Tactics hero. Whenever a character you control participates in an attack that destroys an enemy, place 1 progress token on the current quest and reduce your threat by 1. Tactics is not about threat reduction. In fact It is about taking the threat on head to head and plowing through. Some of the ideas I have had are your Tactics heroes take wounds in order to up their Questing. Getting from point "A" to point "B". Then you have yet another restricted Item to add to tactics guys that already are needing the restricted Items they have to do anything worth while. Instead of Restricted. "Limit 1 per Hero" The Failing of Tactics is their Questing ability, NOT the threat management. Boris_the_Dwarf said: 5. Fearless Leadership cost 4 Attachment TacticsCharacters with the Ranged keyword may attack enemies in the staging area at +2 attack. Change it to "Hero with the Ranged…" and make it Unique and Neutral Attachment… I think you are on to something.
  8. Starting at 27 Threat and gaining 10 and failing to quest by 4. was not a good start. Failed the first game. Barely won the second. Felt like I did something wrong the second game but cannot put my finger on it.
  9. Just played 2 player "Flight from Moria" final Kazad-Dum scenario. Wow!!!! Intense and really good. Had to do a last ditch effort to win and pulled it off EXACTLY with no previous set up. I was down to one character left. Sooooooo Close
  10. RGun said: This Hobbit saga expansion caught me by surprise - I was expecting the next deluxe expansion to be hobbit themed given the movie coming out but didn't see the whole saga thing coming. After thinking about it I really like it. For me, having interesting new scenarios and new game mechanics is much more interesting to me then new player cards. Given it is a cooperative game the main way to keep it fresh is with new scenarios and new game mechanics as a fixed encounter deck can't develop new strategies to keep you interested in playing the way a human opponent can. The challenge with a living card game is every new game mechanic you introduce makes the game more complex and then you have to take it into consideration when designing new scenarios - especially challenging in a cooperative game like this where a scenario has to play well with all sorts of combinations of player cards. The partially self contained sagas are a way to introduce some interesting new game mechanics in a one-off and not need to worry about them staying with the game as it expands. I think this allows the designers to introduce some more interesting mechanics and that makes for more enjoyable and challenging scenarios. I disagree to a point. So far each AP has done exactly what you said. The only over arcing change that has been introduced is Secrecy. Otherwise each AP has introduced its own self contained challenge that the designers can expand upon or leave by the way side. Saga Edition does not give us anything really new that we have not experienced before. We have a New Hero that changes controllers like Certain objectives and collects resources like a Hero would but with Radagast's restrictions. I am not disregarding the coolness of Sagas as a whole. Love the concept. It is just not doing anything more or less than what has been done so far by its smaller cousins.
  11. I am excited by the for the new Aragorn. Gives me a chance to play around with 1 hero deck build...Anyone else notice the sword and the stone go to the would be king? You all 'av' been PUN-ished!

But players can’t include these valuable items in their decks right away. Instead, in order to use treasure cards, players must first locate them during a scenario. Only then do they “unlock” the ability to use these famous and powerful cards in later scenarios. They could have different backs all together. You just get to attach them for free during setup at the beginning of the next scenario. So the backing of the cards is really a moot point. Also seems like the Saga editions are just like someone said earlier," a game within a game." You get board of the normal game and decide one weekened you and your friends will play Saga Edition. Which is cool because more than a few of us have already been trying to play the game chronologically. FFG has beat the players to making an alternate format to the game and I think it is brilliant! I, personally, am hoping that we get 2 Deluxe and 2 Saga Editions each year. Your first line there mentions that "Treasures are new player cards." That seals it to me. If they are player cards, they must have player backs. What if it gets discarded from your hero and sent to the discard pile. If you use Will of the West to shuffle it into your deck, it will have to have the same back as other player cards, unless there is a rule that discarded treasure cards are removed from play. But I must say I'd be disappointed if there were two copies of each treasure, one with each type of back to it. That would be a waste of card space in the expansion, in my opinion. Good point. The developers are always trying to push something innovative to the universe though. Those innovations are what I am concerned with. NOT the backs of the decks, albeit a minor part of the innovation. My point being How is THOU going to change the game or game state? Maybe we get Istari resources in the next arc ?For that Matter maybe this is a playtest of sorts for race specific resources i.e. Rohan, Dunedain and so on. Could treasures be a new way to introduce player prizes for tournaments? Win/participate in a tournament: Get a Registered prize that you get to play with in subsequent tournaments. The same goes for the Bilbo Card. Could be a new way to get exclusive Characters that support your favorite race? For all purposes we could see an scenario where all the races are actually fighting Sauron at some point. Each player would need to represent the Race with Epic Heroes, which this version of Bilbo is. The possibilities, just from this expansion alone, open so much up for speculation. Over all I think this is a positive move for FFG

  14. This subject Keeps coming up and it bugs the HELL out of me. I love competition. BUT I wind up being too over bearing and a rules lawyer. All around ******* and not very sportsmanly. So I shy away from true competition and am happy to play in a friendly environment. I was elated to find out there was no tourney for this game and honestly believe it is for the better. The guys I play with are just happy to beat a scenario and that is alright with me. There are also too many variables to figure in to run an event IMO. If you announce the Adventures ahead of time then everyone has even playing field to meta and then it comes down to just card draw. If you hide the scenario then people will almost certainly build a deck that cannot handle it and then the event has an unfair bias. Not to say I would not show up at a tourney but It is finally nice to have a game that I have a vested interest in that I don't have to be competitive for. For that reason I would vote "No" on a tourney environment..
  15. twm47099 said: I would like to see some pre-Party Bilbo adventures. He has the right amount of sneaky adventurer in him to be interesting. tom THIS!!! This is good stuff here. After all it was made a point that "the Baggins's have always been troublemakers." It stands to reason that both Bilbo and Frodo have been in a few "adventures" until their EPIC adventures. One of my guys at the store SAID this box is supposed to be as big as the Core Adventure set for precisely the same reasons mentioned above that I will not reiterate here. Unfortunately he has a bad habit of hearing what they want to hear and spreading it as Canon. He was supported in the fact that FFG did spill the beans about the said set and it will indeed be Hobbit focused. I personally assume that means you will be able to build better Hobbit decks like Kazad-Dum did for Dwarves and will be about the same size. Not in fact that you will be able to play through the story of The Hobbit. Others have attempted to kill Smaug so I would assume we will see him in much the same role as we see the Balrog currently. In essence a force to be survived rather than defeated. Just my thoughts and musing and lending another source that has heard this rumor.
