  2. I don't really have a plan (or a book, or a gaming group) yet, but I want to run a Crimson Skies styled campaign with space pirates and high adventure. Arr! With the pirates, obviously, being the good guys, striking from their hidden base against the fat Empire-sponsored corporations that exploit the people of the Outer Rim. After our "zero-compassion" Exalted campaign, I think it could be a nice change of pace.

Psion said: Allow me to weigh in my two cents: Star Wars is (or at least was, some folks would argue that Lucas seems bent on killing off his own franchise) a grand and timeless sci-fi retelling of classic fantasy troupes like the Hero's Journey and Good and Evil. The problem is that George's purely binary morality system (Light and Dark Sides of the Force) is actually as much of a handicap as it is a storytelling aid. The good are GOOD, the evil are EVUL, and everyone else gets no screentime. If Star Wars has one flaw, it's that the **** thing is set up to automatically choke any attempt to break out of the setting's simplistic morality. That's why I like his original take on the Force. It's pretty non-traditional. The Jedi, the "good guys" of the setting are just, but cold and distant, focusing on suppressing their emotions. While the dark side, the bad guys, are all about being being emotional and embracing their humanity (or whatever species they are). Star Wars (at least before the majority of EU and prequels) was an interesting blend of traditional fantasy tropes, and still-unique twists. At least that's how I've always seen it.
  5. Good luck getting it! Mine finally arrived in the country. Now it's "in customs". Gods know how long that'll be. I'm guessing Tuesday at the earliest. *le sigh*
  6. The Spaniard said: Yup that is me. Thanks for your comments at Gen Con, they're always appreciated. cP FFG Hey Christian, Small world. You recently came up in a conversation I had with Mikael Gelineck. Nothing untoward, don't worry!

    WP7?

There might not be a lot of support for since, apparently, only stuffy old guys like me use WP7, but I'm still wondering if there's any plans for a WP7 client of the Star Wars Dice App? I promise I'll buy it a second time if there are.
  9. My book is currently somewhere above the Atlantic, where it has been in stasis since the 22nd. It better not be having adventures without me!
  10. Just the one shelf? I have a collection much like that. Sadly, most of it's in storage because I just don't have the shelf space for RPG books I'm unlikely to ever use. I do keep certain gems handy though, like the Bounty Hunter book, Fragments from the Rim and the Imperial Sourcebook. If I can convince people to play EotE, I may have to dig more of them up for reference material.

The confusion, I believe, stems from the fact that no one is actually making this argument. You think they are. But they aren't. The simple fact is: Everyone have potential to use weapons. Everyone. It's not actually possible to make a character who is unable to pick up a blaster and use it (unless, I suppose, you play a character without hands or something). What happens in this game system is that people who have spend time training with their weapons, are vaguely better at hitting than people who haven't clocked all those hours at the shooting range. You keep insisting that anyone defending the rules above, are trying to say that some characters shouldn't be able to use weapons or take part in combat. To reiterate: No one is saying this. No reason to be "truly baffled", this isn't D&D.
  12. booored said: iOS is less than 48% of the market… lets see soem android apps for once.. A good place to start would be to look at the android market (or google play. Whichever). It was released before the iOS version, too.
  13. I'm not sure where this should go, so I guess here's as good as any. I've noticed a few (albeit minor) issues with the android version of the Dice App on my Samsung Galaxy S2: 1) When saving a set of star wars RPG dice, both the black d6s and the blue d6s are treated as blue d6s. So, it's not currently possible to save a configuration to have black d6s in it. 2) The choice of background, in Settings, is not being saved across sessions. Since it defaults to the rebel background, this may be a case of rebel propaganda. Last one's more of a feature request: It would be really cool to have a sound option that disables all sound except the dice roll sound. All those whizz and whirrs at the gaming table would be kinda obnoxious, but I do miss the rattle of dice.
  14. Hooray! I managed to cheat Google Play. Beautiful app. Only thing I kinda miss is an option to turn off all sound except for the roll dice sound. All the whizz and whirr is kinda obnoxious at the gaming table, but I'd miss the rattle of dice.

  16. Lord Nikon said: oh man. Just make up your own stuff. Why does it have to be "officially" in the book to exist. What did we do back in the day with WEG/D6 Star Wars, we made it up. its not hard to sit down and look at what they have already and design your own mini-Empire source book to your home games. Maybe share it with people here so they can enjoy it too. I'd recommend the excellent WEG supplement Imperial Sourcebook. It's not the most exciting read WEG ever put out (as it turns out, sector group organisation can be downright dreary) but it is incredible informative.
  17. Too bad it's not a free app. Can't get it for my android phone then. Guess I'll have to root for a wp7 app instead. Make it so!
  18. cetiken said: You guys are being silly. This is a good idea. My rebel pilot has no reason to hang out with a smuggler, nor does my jedi-in-hiding. All those characters go on different sorts of adventures. It only makes sense to think of them as separate but mostly compatible games. I see what you did there. Personally, I don't mind that they are separate game lines (even if I might not entirely understand the reason for it), I just hope that the games will be more compatible than the various 40k lines were. It's fine if you want to only focus on a rebel campaign, you just need the rebel book, but if I want to combine all three, I hope that's possible. I think "possible" is the wrong word here. It's possible to do a Dark Heresy / Deathwatch crossover. I hope it will both be realistically feasible and make sense.
  19. Corradus said: With the greatest of respect, I couldn't disagree more. Yeah, you can kill Jedi, but they don't die easy. You need a whole **** army to do it, (as seen in the clone wars) or another force user. I don't think we're going to agree on this. And that's fine. You can have your jedi power fantasies, I don't mind. The issue, however, is when it comes to game balance. You can have a game where every jedi is more powerful than everybody else, or you can have a game where all PC classes are relatively balanced against eachother. You can argue for either approach, but when presented with two options that are both supported by lore to some degree, why pick the one that makes for the worse game? There's plenty of evidence that the "non-magical" protagonists of the story can measure up to the jedi protagonists. Why not go with that option if it makes the game fun for the non-Jedi folks too? I get it. Jedi can do stuff that nobody else can. Of course they can, that's the point of being a jedi. But hey, Han Solo can do stuff that nobody else can, too. So can Leia for that matter. And Padmé. Because they are all exceptional individuals (read: PC-types). Padmé can't do the same things that Anakin can. She can shoot you dead with a blaster instead of cutting you down with a lightsaber, but for the guy at the other end I'm sure the difference is academic. She can talk sense to people instead of jumping out of moving speeders. They do different things, sure, but I don't see why a game system should make sure that Padmé is "overshadowed and eclipsed" by every Jedi in existence. And as much as George Lucas like his Mary Sues, I doubt even he think jedi should "overshadow and eclipse" every other protagonist of the setting. But, I guess I can just thank my maker that you're not designing the next Star Wars RPG (and I can promise you that I won't, either).
  20. GM Chris said: ROFL… no worries, man. I'm a "long-winded" type myself. And you make sense. After reading more and more, and talking to Jay Little on the Podcast last night… that's kind of what I'm seeing. There's really no "mechanical" way to easily represent threat. Because it can be different even between PCs. Two PCs can have 500 XP, and drop it all into their builds. But one can be a Bounty hunter who's done nothing but max out his skills and the Assassination Talent Tree. The other could be spreading the XP accross multiple specializations (even cross-career). And the "power level" (which I don't think there really IS, in this system - so perhaps "character effectiveness") will be radically different for both - depending entirely on the scene/encounter. Agreed (great podcast, btw). I think, ultimately, it comes down to 'gut feeling', and a bit of experience with the system.
  21. awayputurwpn said: Why not just get your gaming group into EotE? Oh, I will. But it''s not nice to cancel a scheduled game session. Especially when we only play, like, bi-monthly over the summer. I fully intend to run a few EotE scenarios in parallel, once I get the book. (The session next week will be perfect to showcase the book… assuming it arrives in time)
  22. Corradus said: But, having said that, I like the idea that they didn't lump the Jedi and everyone else into the same rulebook - because IMO (and using 40K as a template for the argument) the Jedi are NOT like any other character in Star Wars. Left to their own devices, they will quickly overpower and eclipse Characters without access to the force - much as in 3rd and 3.5 Edition D+D magic wielders left those who couldn't wield magic in the dust because they could pump out a sheer volume of body count by casting spells that no other character class could match swining a melee or ranged weapon. Maybe that will be true in this iteration of the game, but it certainly isn't true in movies or canon. Exceptional people do exceptional thing. Luke doesn't vastly overshadow Han. Jango Fett isn't vastly overshadowed by Obi Wan. In fact, it takes the best Jedi swordsman in the galaxy (with the help of a raging Reek) to give Jango a run for his money. That's hardly 'eclipsed'. The point is that Jedi only "overpower and eclipse" other main characters in the minds of zealous fans. Exceptional individuals do exceptional things. It's just that there are a lot of non-exceptional normal people around and you can't necessarily tell one from the other before it's too late (is that smuggler at the bar who's giving you a hard time the next Han Solo or is it just Bob The Trader?), wheras Jedi, by definition, are 'exceptional individuals' (which doesn't stop them from being slaughtered en masse, but I digress). I really dislike the "oh, but jedi done right would be totally more powerful than every other PC type". That simply isn't true. There is no reason Jedi can't be balanced around other PCs (even if it's a theoretical balance, like that of the 3e wizard ).
  23. I wish I didn't have to spend this weekend preparing for an Exalted game next week. I'd much rather be reading up on EotE
  24. Shakespearian_Soldier said: Am I right in thinking that priority mail takes about 2-3 days to reach countries like Great Britain? If so, then I should have my book by Friday. XD Sounds about right. Plus however long it's in customs. Which, around here at least, seems to be a randomly generated number between 'no time' and 'couple of weeks' Would be awesome to have it by the weekend though.
