any2cards reacted to GralQ in New Descent product teased
Here I am hoping and begging that tthis is a new edition and that:
PLEASE LET IT NOT BE PUZZLE MODE (solo / "co-op") ONLY
It has been so disappointing that every major dungeon crawler product in the last 4 years has been only puzzles.. including FFG's Lord of the rings one. I understand the appeal to publish this kind of product since there's a massive irrational demand for them (BGG's majority of users who go all in on everything at pre-orders and are very loud in rating) but man, is it not unfair that:
-Frosthaven
-Lord of the rings
-Middara
-Etherfields
-Tainted Grail
-Gloomhaven
-Descent's last content (all app)
Did not offer , not even as an expansion, a gamemode where you would compete against your friends in exciting battles? These are only he games I remember.. they may be more!
But I guess it's too late for them to hear me rant, the product may be already done, so fingers crossed!

"Inserts", such as the one shown by @Bucho above have been a staple for FFG games for years. They are completely worthless. They become the very first thing that I throw out (if I even keep the original box at all) !

any2cards got a reaction from Bucho in D2e Card Viewer Version 2.9.0
On Wednesday, I published a new version of the D2e Card Viewer 2.9.0. For this version, I have added errata cards for all of the missing cards that show errata (both official and community errata) that exists within the CRRG.
I would like to thank @Dadler93 for pointing out the missing cards.
EDIT: In addition, I added the Turn Summary cards (for both the player and the overlord) to the test page.

The quote is actually this on the official publishing company's website:
"Mighty warriors fight to save the realm from blood magic and evil, in this battle-soaked epic fantasy novel, introducing the brand new edition of the hugely popular game, Descent: Legends of the Dark"

It seems like it's a new edition incoming...

For those that don't want to bother, this is what shows within the description of the book:

I don't know for the others but as a overlord i read precisely the quest i pick up the mobs most adapted to players and quest. I analyse all the attributes of heroes party and construct my deck based on that. You can have really a nasty combo. And i indeed see a difference between a giant an ogre, an ettin and troll.
Sure the app reduces a bit the added value of having a lot, but basically it is not due to the variety of monsters. The app is to be blamed if it is not able to reach the full potential of the collection. They had plenty of time to correct that and i expect that they would be able to design something as interesting as in Gloomhaven for each mob. (dreaming alive)

That actually opens up some new questions. The "Descent: Legends of the Dark" was just updated on the Simon and Schuster site, it previously showed "Journeys in the Dark" and I had previously copy/pasted it here. Google Play still shows the "Descent: Journeys in the Dark" tag:
The application was filed on June 12th, which is well after first novel The Doom of Fallowhearth details came out in May with the existing"Journeys in the Dark" branding. So either...
it sounds like Descent is being rebranded from "Journeys in the Dark" to "Legends of the Dark" and a 3rd edition is coming out. there is a new Terrinoth IP-based game "Descent: Legends of the Dark" being developed, and for some reason was called a new edition by marketing. I think the strongest thing is Descent is getting rebranded and a newish name and a 3rd edition.

I was looking to pre-order the new descent novel on amazon (UK).
To my surprise I found 2 novels available to pre-order.
The one that hasn't been mentioned before is: The Shield of Daqan: A Descent: Journeys in the Dark Novel Paperback – 2 Feb. 2021
in the description on amazon it mentions introducing a new edition of the Board game.

The link to the raw D2e GitHub page where you can find all of the files is: GitHub D2e Card Repository
The link to the hosted GitHub Files Page for D2e (a web page which allows you to test the viewer against all of the cards in the game) is: D2e Card Viewer - Test Page
EDIT: Thanks for the B-Day wishes !

any2cards reacted to doubletapdaddy in Descent vs Gloomhaven
45 minutes set up and 2.5 hours to play Gloomhaven? Lol. Set up for us is 10 minutes at most, and gameplay average is about 90 minutes. Breakdown... 10 minutes or less.
At one point my family and I loved Descent so much that we built a game room with a custom table, chairs and cabinet solely to play RTL. (before we painted our minis 😳)

Not sure what you are asking here as both my test pages and my GitHub site have both agents and lieutenants (under separate headings).
EDIT: LOL, all this time, and I never noticed that my GitHub Pages showed the Lieutenant card for the Agents. I never noticed because I have a separate page that I use that shows side by side image comparisons between my original (old) images and the latest versions. On this page, each card is separately coded, so I didn't have the issue you did in seeing Agents. I rarely actually use the test page. Doh ! Fixing now ...
EDIT: In order to see the agents, you need to type "A-" + the agent name. I have modified my Github Pages and updated the site. Waiting for it to propagate ...
EDIT: Ok, it all works now. Turning 79 on July 6th. It really shows. Lol.

any2cards got a reaction from Felin in D2e Card Viewer Digital Assets Update
Thanks to a user from BGG, I recently came into possession of digital assets significantly better than the ones I had previously used for the Plot Decks, Agents, Rumors, Advanced Quests, and Lieutenants. I am in the process of upgrading my cards to use these new digital assets. So far, I have updated the Plot Decks and Agent cards.

any2cards reacted to thinkbomb in Super Descent - coming soon
Project long time in the works, I'm posting a preview here. It'll be available to play at some point within the next month or two.
Super Descent is essentially an unofficial 3rd edition. The 30 second sales pitch is as follows...
- A summoning resource called "Peril" will allow the Overlord more strategic flexibility regarding when to unleash a wave of monsters on the heroes. As well, monsters will have different strengths that cost different amounts of peril (rather than Act 1 / Act 2 distinctions).
- Heroes have a healthy/wounded status (similar to IA). Bearing in mind the game has been rebalanced for this, it does remove the oppressive nature of Corpse-Stalking and always targeting the squishy mage/healer first.
- Heroes will have their own unique XP upgrades called Talents in addition to their chosen class (this is to enable more flexibility in what heroes are good at what classes).
- Great efforts have been made to retain as much Descent-ness as possible, including maintaining minion/masters, wealth of conditions, separation of heroes/classes, etc, etc, etc
- A companion guide to update existing campaigns to Super Descent (no maps included, so original copies still required, for obvious reasons)
- A new AI deck is being developed specifically for this mod (given the other systems are incompatible)
- There will be a card creation suite to enable faster development.
- And a host of other changes to accommodate for the major new systems. For example: the new tools have been used to push each monster into its own role (for example: the sluggers like Ogres, Giants, Ettins, and Trolls all now have more diverse personalities and roles)
Being said ... here's a couple of card previews ...
The Monster Card
The big thing is that EVERYTHING is on 1 side of the card. This means the Overlord can hold a small hand of monsters and not reveal to the heroes what they'll be up against until he pays the peril and unleashes them.
A couple points to note ...
a) the new dice icons at the bottom were born out of necessity to allow for b/w printing
b) the white text will have black outlines implemented in the card editor suite
c) The card template will be extremely flexible, including adjusting: surge abilities, whether or not surges are master only, if you hide extra info like the monster traits, attributes, etc
d) awful pink picture is there as a safety-net. The card editor will allow the user to input their picture of choice
The Item Card
These changes are more quality of life than anything, but it certainly helps.
a) the item type icon has been moved next to the picture. This was done to allow more text space and cleaner presentation
b) Now there's an option to include class restriction at the bottom of the card. It makes it a lot easier to tell the starting class equipment from shop cards without having to look at the backside.
Skill and Talent Cards
Talents (XP Upgrades) that are specific to heroes now have their own fancy background colors. In addition, I put the Heroic Feat on the talent card (hence the little add-on graphic there). Also, some cards will have the option of being double sided (flip over mechanics).
... which leads to ...
Hero Cards
Healthy Heroes have an extra ability. yay! That ability gets lots when they're wounded, and their stats take a hit. Uh oh!
- If nothing else, facetiously, it provides players an actual reason to flip over their hero card.
- More importantly, it's in the best interest for the Overlord to spread damage and eventually attack EVERYONE (as those stat decreases can affect the success of a mission).
I've put out a rough roadmap to convert all retail content, as well (with permission) a great portion of community content.
The development tools (which is really all I'm waiting on) are going to super straight forward and will allow everyone to pitch in if they want to (as well as making it much easier to kick out content in a timely manner).
