    https://teamcovenant.com/star-wars-x-wing/x-wing-vassal-module-v8-2-0-full-2nd-edition
I usually do these at the release of the module (which was last Wednesday, September 12th) but I couldn't find the time. I have now.
I do hope you enjoy this piece of work. Here's an important paragraph at the top, copy pasted here for those who won't take time to read the full blog
Thanks to all the help I got
This module is hundreds of hours from yours truly spread out over the months since May 1st. A lot of code from past collaborators had to be adapted, forked and in some cases, bug-fixed in order to make 2.0 a reality in Vassal. Mike Murphy’s content checker and autospawn revisions in early 2018 were key to making this possible. The content checker is an oddity for most players, since it was only briefly used around the time of wave 14’s release, near the end of the Vassal League season 6. However, everyone will eventually see how it will play a key role in bringing the new 2nd edition content as it trickles in from previews and market releases.
Thank you to my patreon supporters who have stood by me and made this sting a whole lot less. The pledges are now on a monthly basis, ranging frmo $1 to $10 and I buy prizes for raffles. So far, 10 ship packs have been awarded, 7 bought and paid for, 3 pending on the winner’s decision. If you want to support the module, here's the link: https://www.patreon.com/mu0n
Before the launch of this v8.2.0 module, I got a lot of useful feedback from many players and users of the module inside the Vassal league slack. Thanks to the 50+ people who were active and supportive in my #vassal2e_alpha channel. It really helped me push this out a day before the IRL release of 2.0! Yay! We beat them to the race!

    Yeah that’s why. ?
Or, maybe, it’s about the fact that in order to continue playing in sanctioned events, you have to trade a significant amount of cash for cardboard. One of the greatest strengths of x-wing was that for about $100, anybody could play. After that, $10-15 for a small ship and the occasional $30-50 for a large ship every few months kept you going. Some of us bought more, but it wasn’t a requirement.
Those days are over. To have full range of playing all the ships you own immediately, you need to spend somewhere in the vicinity of $300. And that’s just to get started with core sets and conversion kits. That doesn’t include the new $35 falcon or fang fighters (plural) for new cards.
if this was the only game, or even the only Star Wars game out there, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But there are so many other games that are as good or better than this one to buy. 2.0 was the right move in concept but the wrong move in execution.

Edit: It’s worth mentioning that with minor tweaks, 1.0 can be played just like 2.0, and without the exorbitant expense of more cardboard. In casual kitchen table games, for example we’ve started allocating Force points to players at the start of the game that can be used for any ship during the game to sway the course of the battle. But once they’re gone, they’re gone.

This app release really has gotten me thinking about not buy another single X-Wing product.
It's like FFG ignored every good thing in all the fan made squad builders and instead went to a "Fisher Price" development team or hired a bunch of first year developers.  Also, just putting the site in an app window and calling it a mobile app is incredibly insulting.  I purchased their "Mansions of Madness 2nd edition" (MM2) game and the app for that is great.  I don't know about the "Imperial Assault" app, but I'm sure it's pretty much the same as MM2.
Honestly, I have my entire order sitting in the cart on a vendor website but, it's going to sit there until they do major improvements to this app.  Solo fan developers have better products available and they didn't know to start working on them until the game was announced.  FFG completely failed with this app.
I'm not sure if I'll even buy any more X-Wing products.  The biggest disappointment to me is how difficult it is just to look at the card point values to put together a list.  You can do a search but the search gives you everything but the point cost.  This was the point of the aap.  That's just incredibly stupid.  I expected a full featured app with at least the following features...
Browse the cards and view point values Create a ship with upgrades and save it for use on multiple list Be able to copy or clone a ship (3 rookie pilot setups for example) Be able to use the app offline With the exception of the second item in the list, I would consider these very basic features.  They didn't even ask the us what we felt was important in an app.  To me, the lack of effort in the creation of this app is a slap in the face to the players.

No offline mode: The app doesn't work if you don't have WiFi or over the air data.  This is a huge design flaw.  Why would you want to pay for the bandwidth for people to continuously be querying your data web service?  The database can't be more that a few megs.
The app should have a local database.  When the app starts, have it check for connectivity to the data web service.  If it can't connect, it starts up using the local database.  If it can connect, it checks for updated data.  If there is updated data it retrieves it and updates the local database.  It then starts up on the local database.
To check for an update, the app only has to send a date or version to the service and the service replies with the updated data or a database valid message.  This will greatly reduce your bandwidth cost since the apps are only sending and receiving about 16 bytes to verify they are up to date if there are no updates to download.
After updating the database, it syncs the user's squads with their account on the server.  Also, after the data is updated, the user should be alerted if point cost changes has put any of their squad lists over the point limit.
I realize, that keeping the database on the web server ensures that everyone has the same data, but what good is that if no one at a tournament can connect.  Also, why would anyone design a mobile system where the server is doing 50% or 60% of the heavy lifting.  Leverage the client hardware.

My FLGS's X-Wing crew has, for a variety of reasons, been struggling for some time now.  Most nights, we have just two; very rarely, we hit four.  It's been this way since about Wave 9, I'd guess.  It's been...kinda painful.  But we kept the lights on.  We kept talking to those people who used to come, and who burnt out on TLT's and Ghosts and endless Palp Aces.
Now we have 2.0.  And it was good.
It's difficult to advertise purely by word of mouth when you have only three and a half people's mouths talking.  We still managed to get twelve pilots into the shop.  And they all left HAPPY.  The shop owner is hyped about X-Wing again, and wants to run more tournaments, with better prize support - he even wants to play.
Thank you, FFG, for making the game playable again.  It is so good to have access to a fun, social hobby once again.

I don't play the game, but have a massive collection.  I have been here since the beginning.  And I can't agree more to the statement above.
"Disappointed" would be a weak adjective to describe my feelings if I actively played.  They have had more than a year to get this app reasonably functional.  What they have delivered is a joke.  And that is me being polite about it.  There is no defense for this.  This is especially true considering the fact that playing 2.0 is MOSTLY wrapped around using this app.
Now we have poor app testing to go along with poor play testing.  This does not place FFG in a very good light.

Dude, I have no idea why you're reacting negatively to my disappointment.  I have every right to be disappointed.  I didn't say I was mad or even upset - I'm DISAPPOINTED.  My analogy stands.  If I pay $150 for a meal (I have and enjoyed it every time) I expect it be served on a nice plate with a great presentation and expect to be supplied with proper utensils.  It's perfectly acceptable to be disappointed in FFG's lackluster performance with regard to their app development.  The game is excellent, but the app is abysmal.  It doesn't sound like you're defending the app either, just attacking me for no good reason.

I can't disagree more ... I don't mind that a co-op version exists, but I absolutely don't want it to take away or eliminate the expansions for the main game.  Having the option to play a co-op every once in a while is nice, but it absolutely is not why I got into this game in the first place.

In fact, it really can't be the reason anyone got into the game in the first place, as that option didn't exist to begin with.

I will take the high road here, and assume you didn't mean to call me an "old fart, stuck in my ways".
While I own Gloomhaven, I have not yet formally begun play, so I cannot give first hand perspective.  Having said that, I know many who have managed to play the game without the need to interact with an app.  Perhaps us "old folk" simply have a better attention span, and are more detail oriented.
A board game is just that ... a game whose central focus is a board around which several individuals congregate for a social, good time.  I don't consider being forced to interact with an app, via various digital devices, to be part of that board game.  An app such as that used by D2e does far more than "book keeping".  It completely replaces the adversarial nature of the game, and completely removes one major role, that of the Overlord.
I am not aware of your age in specific, but in general, the younger generation is fascinated with such devices, so much so, that their ability to interact effectively in a social, group gathering, is highly diminished.  I simply see the addition of apps to games such as D2e to be more of the same.
Further, it is quite clear that our world in general, and the USA in specific, is moving more towards a focus of participation trophies, everyone gets to feel good about themselves, everyone gets to win, etc.  That is why coop's seem to be the in-thing at this time.  It allows everyone to participate without the potential of conflict, awkward interactions, someone losing, etc. ... most of those things that I have distinctly found are skills lacking in the younger generation - that is to say the ability to cope with all of the aforementioned "negative" effects of true competition.
I, quite frankly, consider this a significant step backwards, and one of the major reasons why this country struggles in so many areas.  In the real world, you don't always get to win, you don't always get to avoid difficult things such as conflict resolution, etc.  In life, there is competition in most everything we do.  So it certainly makes sense to prepare our children properly ... one of the things that does this is competitive board games that involve critical and strategic thinking, where decisions that you make have very real consequences.
This is what is lost when everyone is buried in their electronic devices ... I certainly prefer to have the choice to play a game without requiring one.  You certainly are free to feel otherwise.
    Just my two cents.

While I can fully understand your frustration your posts appear like an immature tantrum. Not to say that this can't be liberating sometimes, but I'd suggest moving on to the acceptance phase.
Sadly there isn't anything we can do to change the situation, since FFG does not communicate with their customers. For the same reason I doubt someone will ban you, as this would require someone of them reading your posts in the first place.
But I think you are drawing the obvious conclusions by voting with your wallet. Though the sad thing is, that due to FFGs failure to communicate with their customers, they will never have any context on why someone might not buy future products.

While I mostly agree with you, I think the feeling of incompletion is a result of it looking like everything was going to be completely rounded out.
One hero and monster pack is great- but then every single 1st edition monster was updated, as well as every 1st edition hero... except 12.
Big boxes had 1 of each hero/class, and the small boxes had alternating sets of 2, and Mists arrives with... no heroes. Chains follows up with new types of classes, but still no heroes.
Is it fair to expect FFG to do more because they already did more than originally expected? No.
The game isn't really incomplete, I agree; however, it does kind of feel like it is.

The gray bar is the same color all the way across- but the colors around sure make it look like one side is darker than the other.
