He will arrive precisely when he means to, perhaps as a NPC in several quests.

It always wonders me why people post 24/7 on the internet about not wanting to play a boardgame with their ... phones or other posting tools.
I also can not understand why people say they use these devices too much.
Sorry but 30 years ago we:
    - sat for hours watching TV
    - sat hours in cinema theathers watching movies
    - listened for hours to music while just sitting or doing things
    - waisted hours to look up books in libraries
    - read novels and books too heavy to drag along
    - read hours in our magazines and news papers
    - did sports while inconveniantly had to drag cassette recorders with us
    - hang for hours on our phones to talk to our love ones...
    - lost far too many hours to find a road without GPS
    - did not even play correctly because we had no on line help for rules look up....

BUT NOW ... some are too stubborn to use these tools to limit the number of trees being cut for a card being drawn....
Tldr: this is 2019. We use computers ALL the time. Grow up.

Just out of curiosity, what would your definition for long term support be in this case? How many years should the active life cycle of the game be or how many expansions should be released for this game - or any other game for that matter - for it to qualify as having long term support?

Warhammer: Invasion was supported for supported with new product for four years (2009-2013)
Star Wars LCG was supported with new product for six years (2012-2018)
Imperial Assault started in 2014, and still in development, so that's more than four years of new product there again.
Not sure what you are looking for. If it's a guarantee that FFG will keep producing new content for 10 (or for ever?) before even a single core set has been sold, well, no company will give you that.
Note also that unless I am mistaken, this game will resemble Imperial Assault, where even just a core set gives you a full game experience. No expansions are really needed. (Unlike with LCGs for example, where the core sets themselves are clearly just a small part of the experience, so new poduct is needed.)

So first off I believe you to be quite jaded, and these kind of posts are really not necessary. All you need to do is look at the dozens of examples of supported long term games, such as IA, Descent, MOM, Lotr lcg, etc... as examples of how well FFG is capabale of supporting a game.
Board games end. It's part of the cycle. Some games end faster than others because this is a business. And first and foremost, if it ain't making money, it ain't sticking around.
You obviously have been burned backing a game that got canceled, and are upset, that's totally fair.
But I don't believe you have a valid point based on your examples, versus the ones I provided.
The irony of it all is that the best way to make sure a game stays supported by FFG, is to support it yourself through sales.
I do not believe this game will have any trouble sticking around given the proposed "fresh" gameplay format and most importantly the IP behind it.

My instincts told me the stranger was bad news. Maybe it was something in his eyes--or rather, his eye, or rather, his lack of eyes, or wait never mind it's back up to eyes again. It could have been something in his stance, like how he didn't really have a stance or even a discernible form in the first place. Perhaps I just didn't like his tone of voice when he ceaselessly trumpeted "TEKELI-LI! TEKELI-LI!" or something. I only knew one thing for certain: This guy was trouble.

That wouldn't be awesome in a strategic game where you need to decide who's gonna do what: expand the randomness in these games and effects can snowball to very unwanted results

Back in the day, there was a Twilight Imperium wiki site that had a forum that rivaled any community that ever existed for the game here.  I distinctly remember one of the threads was "Describe each of the TI3 races in 5 words or less."  My favorite one for Sol was:  "Are you pregnant again, soldier?"

why don't you take a d6, and every time you pull a token out of the bag, you can roll it... does that make it better?

The more relevant part is that when an investigator gains a spell, he gains a random copy of that spell.  So it is irrelevant where you return it to.

Due to the level of changes involved, a conversion pack would be the entire game. There's really no reusable assets between the two games.Even if they chose to re-stat the heroes from the first game they'll likely put them in future expansions instead of making a separate pack just for them,

Play Rune Wars, resolve hero phase in Runebound and quests in Descent.  Also throw in Battlelore to resolve the battles for added effect then wonder what you've been doing all month.

It's more than that: the app has two separate steps for the normal mission and for the final mission.  You messed up in that you attempted the final mission during the normal mission step.

Maybe you've just missed it, but the app tells you to resolve the normal mission first, then there's a separate screen for resolving the final mission.
