There's no reward for passing most crisis cards either, but you still play cards into the skill check...

Does it make more sense that while you've developed technology to fly around in aeroplanes, you're still considering stacking a few rocks together and calling it a "wonder"? i was thinking it wouldn't make since due to that Ah, so you mean it should be related to technologies rather than culture? (And by the way, it's "sense", not "since").

Proof of purchase tile
Bleached Lizard replied to Tank9's topic in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game
More worryingly, there's nothing in the rules to direct you on who it should be handed to at the beginning of the game... -
Osaka said: My personal opinion, having only played one game so far, is that it would be nice to have some additional way for new wonders to come into play. I find it odd, however, that people are talking about the culture track, when the wonders are very much technology based. There are two reasons people are connecting the culture track with wonders: 1) The designer has said that in an earlier version of the game, wonders were replaced on the market board whenever a player entered a new "section" of the culture track, but that this was changed due to some negative impact this had on the culture victory (though as far as I'm aware, no one knows what this negative impact could be). 2) The culture track has three "ages", just like the wonders. I too am keen for a house rule to encourage "obsolete" wonders to be removed from the game, but can't think of anything entirely satisfactory. The culture track thing still doesn't quite work for me, as it depends on at least one player going for a culture victory. EDIT: Just realised that the designer said this earlier in THIS thread!

Discarding Unit Cards
Bleached Lizard replied to pixellius's topic in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game
You cannot discard unit cards. As a general rule of thumb, rulebooks tell you what you *can* do in a game, not what you *can't* do (they will usually only say that you cannot do something if it contradicts another rule, or to clarify). So if you can't find a rule for it, you can't do it. -

Maleficus_Sadi said: Ahhh, I didn't know about that. Well, this one can only grasp at the straws of hope that she will additionally be a playable character. Thank you kindly for the information! By the way... has anyone ever tried playing a game of BSG via a forum or better yet, via a video chat service? I noticed a long time ago that people were doing something very similar to this with Twilight Imperium (a game I have never played, admittedly). I wonder if this would be possible for BSG perhaps?... Yes, on BGG. It's very popular. They've been doing it since about six months after the game first came out, I think. They're up to around game #130 now.

card stopping a unit movement
Bleached Lizard replied to adamjmac's topic in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game
I would imagine it refers to the *entire* Movement Phase, not *your* Movement Phase, so the card is not useless. -
Multiple Science Victory
Bleached Lizard replied to scimon's topic in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game
When I mentioned this ruling to my gaming group, the sound they collectively made was something like "ewurgh!" -
I am thinking about this house rule for introducing new wonders into the game (will work best after the first expansion comes out and there are more wonders available): At the start of the game, shuffle all the wonders of each age and place them in separate piles. The wonder market starts of empty. At the beginning of each Start of Turn phase, move all wonders in the market down one space (discarding any wonder that "drops off" the end) and add a new ancient wonder to the top. Once any player enters stage II of the culture track, or once any player has researched their 5th technology, start drawing from the medieval deck instead. Once any player enters stage III of the culture track, or once any player has researched their 10th technology, start drawing from the modern deck instead. Thoughts?

scimon said: Here's a related question. In a two or three player game should you reduce the size of each of the wonders decks to the number of players and only use that many spaces in the market? If you don't then as each city can only have 1 wonder you are very unlikely to see the later wonders. Whilst randomly cutting the decks down reduces the options it means there's still a chance you'll get to build some of the Medieval and Modern wonders. That sounds valid, though I'd like to hear what other people who have played the game have to say...?

Multiple Science Victory
Bleached Lizard replied to scimon's topic in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game
The official current ruling is that a player would win as determined by turn order (so the current First Player would have the first opportunity to win, and so on). However, Kevin Wilson has said that he will be reviewing this ruling for the first FAQ. -
I imagine it would be easiest to have a game of MoM first then use the results of that game to influence the setup of AH. Thematically, you could say that what the investigators find in the mansion reveals the larger-scale horror of what is going on in Arkham. Mechanically I would imagine it's better this way round as well, as the status of the investigators in MoM sounds more linear, whereas in AH it's more cyclic.
-
From what we've heard, particular clues have to go in specific rooms. So you can't place them randomly, and if you know where they are it destroys half the point of the game.

Yes - just in normal turn order. Reduces their decision-making considerably otherwise.

Shipment In?

schauhead said: Suprised there was no news yet. I was at a gaming event in southern MN on Saturday and FFG dontated a sealed copy of this game for a charity auction. I didn't talk to the FFG guys directly, but I tought I heard someone say it was straight off the truck that had arrived at FFG warehouse that morning. Hope that was true because I'd like this game by Christmas. (I didn't win the auction) It should be in shops within a couple of weeks. -
Secrecy in choice: can we discuss before the choice?
Bleached Lizard replied to cauvin's topic in Battlestar Galactica
Using your example, the Cylon player could say "what is your order of preference for losing each of the four resources?" but he would not be able to say "what do you want to lose - food or fuel?" -
Gunter said: JerusalemJones said: My solicitations from FFG are saying January for Exodus, so it likely won't be available for Christmas (much to the loss of many a gift list, I'm sure). And as Bleached Lizard said, the show has been off the air for over two years now (and I miss it!) but the game is still popular. As long as there is money to be made, FFG will release another expansion. Though the third expansion will likely be the last. Yes , I´d like more BSG on TV too! But I hope that FFG will not stop after they reached the end of S3. They gave us nearly everything, now we need the S4 expansion too. With the rebel Cylons, the Colony, ... Then you can say FFG completely covered BSG and then I will be willing to test a theoretical "Blood & Chrome", even a "Caprica"! First post for a petition for a S4 expansion for BSG!! You don't need a petition. If you want another expansion for BSG, the best thing you can do is buy Exodus. If everyone who would sign such a hypothetical petition bought Exodus, then the petition is redundant.

Holy Outlaw said: I'd like to see Lizard proved right on this one. My only concern is how long the show will have been off the air come this time next year. I feel like it really behooves the player community to keep supporting this game and being vocal about it. Obviously, the narrative arc leaves room for one last expansion after Exodus, covering season 4 / 4,5. Here's hoping. I don't think the show being off the air has got anything to do with it any more. It's already been off for quite long enough already - one more year won't make much difference. Plus, there's this new "Blood & Chrome" series coming out, so that may remind people anyway.
