  1. Looks to be too similar to the boardgame. I hope FFG interactive don't bring games to other platforms in a similar manner to what "wizards of the coast" are doing with magic, just porting the whole game over and nothing else (well graphics and some automation obviously).

I think they should embrace the possibilities of a virtual environment similarly to harthstone by creating situations which are nigh impossible to reproduce IRL with card and board, such as drawing three random cards from a specified pool/type of cards, and also by streamlining the experience...instead of having exact turn sequences, timing rules and other slow crawling behaviors which are only found in board games.

Or just make actual video games... Instead of board/card game ports.

  2. The TL,DR; version is Romania will have no Regional Kit and as such no Regional tournament. Continue reading for the longer version:

    Hello,

First let me start of with introducing myself as a normal armada player, with a decent sized collection (1 of each).

I live in Bucharest, Romania's capital, where also the bulk of the Armada community is centered (or all of it as far as I know).

I've also participated at all the Armada events here at the "War Games Store", but we did miss out on the very first tournament kit, so no GSD-1 card for me sadly.

The main actors in this story are:

    - "War Games Store" our local retailer of all things armada and x-wing

    - "Lineart" the single and official distributor for our country or "cutia.ro" as they are often referred to by locals.

    - "Fantasy Flight Games", duh!

So back towards the end of February/start of March we've just finished up the store championship, I've won even though I didn't particularly want to show up for the tournament, so now I was hyped for the regional. The store clerk told me not to get to hyped, since their usual distributors both said that "they were out of regional kits", I immediately panicked, you see both me and the store clerk know that "Lineart" is the main distributor for Romania and they are horrible at their job. Looking through "Cutia.ro" line up, they barely sale any FFG products, NO ARMADA, like 4 x-wing products, barely any expansions for popular FFG games and the worst customer or partner support.

So we mail them, and mail them, call on their phones, mail them some more, call, mail etc, no answers. Fast forward 2 weeks, mid-march, we mail FFG, still no answer to this day.

So my question is what do you do in situations like these? I mean I know we are from Eastern-Europe, and that the Active Armada community here has not passed the "Double Digits", but I still want my regional kit. I really don't want to play the blame game, but so far the only friends t've had in all of this were the other members of the local armada community and the "War Games Store" retail guys, the rest have just been treating us like we don't exist or have really, really slow contact departments. This is kinda of my last appeal as a consumer, I've debated for a long time should try to contact FFG, even though I'm not a distributor or retailer, or where and if I should post this "rant", but I figured hey this thread is for sharing "tournament strategies and experiences" might as well share my regionals experience, I wish all of you have better luck then me and that you never have to miss a tournament due to issues out of your control.

Thank you for reading and listening. I am only a consumer and in no way affiliated with any of the companies above.

Sorry for any typos, I'm writing this during my lunch break at work and later tonight I'm going to attend the weekly "Friday Night Armada and X-wing event" at the "war game store" and I'll forget I ever wanted to post this rant.

  3. Mostly cleared up, but just to make sure (and thank you of course btw).

1a. When building a deck in the core set its okay to say I'm limited too the 2 neutral packs of cards in the rule book? Or can I just shuffle them all and split them 7 each?

2a. Okay so Paul Leamond only steals printed Icons, so I return to my previous question the Spell-Bound Shaggot reduces the skill of everyone by 1, but the story cards say "With a printed skill of 2/3 or lower/higher". That is Why I'm asking would a skill 3 character still get removed by the story because he has a printed value of 3 or will he be immune because of spell bound shaggot. ?

  4. okaaaay... so I'll try to rank them by stupidity...the more stupid ones go first so you can feel a progression.

    1. I give my opponent 3 "baby" cthulus and I get 3 as well...now If I run out of them...can I still activate domains ?! or do I only get 3 a turn ?! (assuming I got more than one domain)

    2. I understand some decks...miscatonik and syndicate I think...one has 19 and the other 21...is this a mistake? any errata ? (I don't remember seeing it in the FAQ)

    3. The manual only states "for the first game rules" what about my other games :/... is it always the same 2 neutral decks, and what about the wiskey cover up story?

    4. Okay so some of the story cards say stuff like Kill all creatures with a printed skill of 3 or higher...or 2 or lower. What happens if theire skill is modified by efects of the Shaggot card (-1 skill to all characters)...would skill 3 creatures still be wiped out even if the modified skill is 2 ? and what about insane characters they are treated as 0 skill...does that mean they are immune to the effect ?

    5. Easy one, I'm guessing I can mix more than 2 colors if so desired in future deck building?

    6. There is one character cost 1 in The Blue deck (really late here)...which can steal the symbols of another creature. Would he only steal the printed icons on the card or those of any attachments as well ?

    7. Again a card specific one, there is a certain card in the Cthulu deck (a deep one), Forced Responce: when you comit him to a story he wounds every creature there other than himself. Im thinking that includes mine...and basically...if I'm the active player and comit him alone to a story...he would have nothing to wound, at least till my opponent responds and sends someone to protect. Long story short...by the text I'm thinking his power activates the moment he joins a story so he would only be really good in defense.

hope you can understand all that and help :P much appreciated. Its been a long time since I played any TCGs, CCGs, LCGs.

  5. okay...so seriously....I use all expansions and this still confuses me.

I have 3 expansions...so a 5 player game would be considered to have only 3 players.

"This modified number of players is
    used for such things as
the monster limit and the maximum
number of gates that can be open at once, and it reduces
the level of difficulty for the players since they have so
    much more ground to cover."

So to what does this actually apply... because the notion of "is used for such things as" adds a lot of ambiguity... If it would only wanted to modify the monster limit, or maximum number of gates ...I would of said a straight-forward "its used for". So what do you use it for ? and what should it be used for?

  6. If I buy the core set ? any recomandations on how I should buy my next batch ?

I played the game before and I liked playing shub niggurath but got relatevly pissed of that his deck has good combos...like dark young spam, or mi-gos helping out each other...but there are to few of them? did any of you guys buy 2 core sets just for more cards?

  7. I play with score, but don't go overboard...I mean sure...I can hold up from not winning just so I can farm a few more monsters, and just close some random gates...but it will just prolongue the game and make it not fun. I try to get a good score, so it will be at least in the 20+ range...I can call that a good game :D...even with less points it was probably a thrilling game.

Ok so I have now played three games now of Descent and I hope my posts aren't getting annoying yet :P

anyway, The last two games I have played I have had big pricey 25 ish threat cards like evil genius and the such in my starting hand or first turn, my question is when you get these types of card early on do you grab the 5 threat or wait a bit to play them, if so how long do you wait?

Evil Genius is the single most powerful card in the game. If you get it early, sacrifice everything you need to, to get it in play. The rest of the powers are marginal and situational. The very high cost Treachery cards are also very powerful usually, and usually worth keeping in hand until the right time to play them comes.

    +1

players call me evil genious insted of overlord....just cause I always seem to draw that card in my first hand (yep...first 3 cards)...play it really early and its a pain for them. It basically gives you more cards = more threat = faster conquest (also because deck shuffling)

Mageith, I think you misunderstood Star Burn's point. Kate's text says: "monsters can move into her location as usual". The term "location" is used, although in the base set, monsters could only move into the same area as an Investigator when said Investigator was in a street. "Location" seems to be misused in Kate's effect text in this instance and could therefore also be misused in the other instance.

Admittedly, there is the single exception of Hound of Tindalos, but somehow I doubt they would have added that sentence just for that one monster.

Forgot the hounds of tindalos <.<

Unique Ability: Science! - Any Phase: Gates and monsters cannot appear in Kate's location due to her flux stabilizer. Monsters and gates do not disappear if she enters their location, however, and monsters can move into her location as usual.

I think the key is the term "location".  This refers to the round circles in Arkham.   In the other worlds, we have "areas".  Of course, location could be used generically here but until otherwise noted I interpret it techncally.

    "2. PLACE INITIAL CLUES
Place one Clue token on each location on the board that
has a red diamond above it. These locations are unstable
and represent the places where dimensional gates can
open and monsters can appear. Locations are identified
by circular illustrations overlaying the Arkham portion
of the game board (for example, Silver Twilight Lodge
    and Ma’s Boarding House)."

    My 2 cents....

Please center around the idea of "...and monsters can move into her location as usual."...thinking at her abillity at the time there was only the base game....how could monsters move in her location ?... stalkers didn't exist...

  11. this thread too eki ?!....okay worst reason ever ...just admit your greedy~! :3

As for the characters... I know chef must be awesome stat-wise ....but I play my characters for the story, and the reason I paly arkham too...sure some of my friends say I "power play" a bit...but...I think I'm getting the best of both worlds.
