How about a cycle of chapter packs that were nothing but Legacy Packs for each previous block (Westeros, Ice&Fire, Valyrian, Winter, IronThrone and FiveKings makes 6).

~Forgive my sarcasm but after the third LCG Robert Baratheon & Arya Stark etc. i somehow think that such a reprint would look like this:

    - Westeros block: Edddard, Catelyn, Robb, Arya, Tywin, Jaime, Tyrion,  Cersei, Robert, Stannis, Renly, Melisandre, Balon, Euron, Asha, Theon, Daeny, Khal Drogo, Viserys, Ser Jorah (20 out of 40 cards)

    - I&F block: Edddard, Catelyn, Robb, Arya, Tywin, Jaime, Tyrion, Cersei, Robert, Stannis, Renly, Melisandre, Balon, Euron, Asha, Theon, Daeny, Khal Drogo, Viserys, Ser Jorah, Arianne, Red Viper, Obara, Areo Hotah (24 out of 40 cards)

    (....)

However the idea ouf a yearly 40 card reprint pack is very interesting.

People would want to play with Westy Ned, Cat, Arya, Robert, Mel, etc.? I figure if they reprint all the blocks in this format, you would only need to get 1 of each unique over the entire run of reprint chapter packs. So you reprint 5KE Ned, AHoTa Cat, VED or WED Arya,5KE Robb, AHoTh Tywin, VED Jaime, VED Tyrion, etc. Maybe 2 copies of the Kingsguard characters, one in house and 1 neutral.

  2. Jason(LetsGoRed) did a heck of a job organizing the event. Cranberry Cafe was a great place to hold the event, and they had a decent selection of beer as well. Thanks to FFG and everyone else who provided support for the event. It was wonderful to see the players from the DC and NY metas, the remnants from the Mass and NoVa metas, as well as the new players. It's amazing to see the turnover in the game. StagLord and I are the only 2 players who played in the NE Regionals in 2006 who played in this event. Almost everyone else on the Eastcoast still playing has come into the game since then. (I know there's a couple exceptions.) So the Eastcoast meta has almost completely turned over in the last 3 years, like alot of other metas across the country. THis event really enforced that fact, with the absence of the Reifs, SoS, the Harrisburg meta, Ethan,  'Mainn, etc. It almost didn't feel right.

Fortunately, the caliber of players was just as strong as past years. The DC/NoVa meta really brought it to the tournament. I was fortunate enough to play Finitesquarewell and Casey during the tournament, and both games were good. Casey and I went 15 plots before drawing.(I only had 3 cards left in my deck of 63) Finitesquarewell hammered me opening plot and had me from the 3rd plot, but I think it dragged out to 7 or 8 plots. My other Loss was to Bloodycelt. He played well and deserves all the credit for the win, but my deck gave me none of the right cards. My 2 wins were against StagLord and a relative new player in the NY meta. In both games, my deck played very well.

As to Spoilers, I'll reveal that Euron is a reprint of Winter Euron, but has the art from Ice and Fire(which I've always liked). Stealth is good.

I actually think multiple versions of the big characters is good for the game. It makes deckbuilding decisions more difficult, especially since most of the character's versions are useful.  I rather enjoy having to decide between Catelyn and Catelyn or Cersei and Cersei. Plus, these are the characters people want to see (discounting us competitive environment types, apparently).

[Yeah, but there are alot of characters we want to see that have no LCG format card.  Why have 2 Catelyns and no Lysa Arryn? Why have 2 Neds and no Blackfish,  Roose Bolton, etc.? I understand thematic sets, but space them based on the play environment. ~And we still don't have a playable Cersei or Pycelle, despite having 2 in the environment.

And I second the vote for Gregor in the LCG environment.

  4. I've been kicking these questions around in my head the last week or so. Sorry if they were already covered in another thread. If so, just point me in the right direction.

What will be the popular play formats following GenCon 2009?

Will "Standard" finally disappear as the most popular foramt to be replaced by LCG?

Will anyone take Legacy seriously and finally see that format get any serious recognition?

Will Jerrod, Luke and others finally get "Vintage"  going as an acceptable format?

~Will the game be passed the point of rescue and die in infamy?

Is there another alternative format(draft cube, block only, etc.) that will finally rise into acceptance?

With the collapse of large regional tournaments, will it truly become a meta by meta decision?

What formats do you enjoy playing? and why?

LCG can be entertaining in Joust but is way too slow in Multiplayer, unless multiple people play Baratheon.

Legacy is fun both in Joust and Melee.

I haven't played Standard since Black Friday in NYC, though it was enjoyable.

I would like to see Vintage and Block Only get some coverage, even if not as much love as LCG and Legacy.

  5. Reinforcement Events are severely undercosted for the LCG environment(possibly any environment, but I don't play anything but LCG and Legacy anymore). If MWnK only could target them, I would be ok with the card as is. It would balance out the cost of reinforcement events. But other neutrals should not be able to be targeted by MWnK.

I don't think the deck itself is that special... I think the thing that makes it difficult to beat is my using my kill effects as my main means of controlling your intrigue characters and your special effect cards. I love putting Ice on Catelyn for example, sticking Icy Catapult on Midnight Sentry and then killing it off with Umber Beserker or Wildfire, again targeting the cards that are most likely to get around my wall of military and power icons. I love using the Epic event during a two claim challenge especially when I have a non-kneeler or two for defense and or deadly out and of course kill off the strongest Int/Pow character on my opponents board.

I would agree that it's the driver, not the car. It looks to me that any Lanni kneel deck would eat your lunch consistently, But I will work on it to see if Bear Island is viable again.

Here's my Bara Summer deck; It probably does the best against Lars' MWnK deck consistently.

    Bara House Card

    Summer Agenda

    Plots

    Time For Ravens

    Rule By Decree

    Summoning Season

    Tourney for the Hand

    Song of Summer

    Winds of Winter

    Fury of the Stag

    Characters

    Carrion Bird x 3

    Samwell Tarly x 1

    ORP x 3

    Edric Storm x 1

    Devan Seaworth x 1

Selyse Baratheon (Core Set) x 1

    Maester Cressen x 1

Herald of the Stag x 2

    Ser Davos Seaworth x 1

    Brienne of Tarth x 1

    Renly Baratheon(King)  x 1

Banner for the Storm x 3

    House Florent Scouts x 3

    Summer Champion x 3

    Robert Baratheon x 2

    Melisandre x 2

    Stannis Baratheon x 1

    The Fox's Teeth x 3

Army of the Faithful x 2

    King Robert's Host x 1

    Events

    Seductive Promise x 2

    Attachment

    Bodyguard x 3

Milk of the Poppy x 2

    Black Raven x 3

I removed Neutral Maester Aemon, Jon Snow and Ghost. Not really a huge loss overall.

Now would Dormouse list his Killer Stark deck that wins consistently. I don't know how you have a hand after the 3rd plot .

My deck fairs the best against a MWnK deck because there is very little to steal, even with Jon, Ghost, and Aemon.

    Lars--

PM me your address, and I'll send you a copy of each of the demo decks. Not that I think you'll be swayed away from your feelings about alternate artwork, but I think you'll at least understand why other people like (and value) them as prizes. I don't care what anyone says -- those versions of the Lannister siblings were beautiful, and I love seeing them in the new format of cards, which brings out so much more of the artwork.

Thanks for the offer, but I actually own a set of both. They are nice...but for me, like i said, art isn't even a concern when i look at a card. Untill someone pointed out 'animie' Jaime i never really noticed it was much different from the rest of the art. Now if you ask me if i prefer a Dali or a Picasso i might give you a 30 minute converstation...go figure.

~Definitely Dali over Picasso, but we can discuss this for 30 min on Tuesday.

I would like a participation prize, like the old promos. Even if you came in last, you felt like it was worth your time to come out and lose while learning to play competetively.

Why are promos bad if they are accessible? Maybe stick them in the Expansions like the upcoming Greyjoy one. There would be more reason for casual players to buy the expansions and the tournament players would have something to play for monthly.

That tutorial was very nicely done. I'm going to steer a friend at work to that who I may just be able to get to try this game.

    Some random thoughts.

    - I was surprised that multiplayer was at the end and sort of an "afterthought" compared to the bulk of the tutorial. I think it makes sense to learn this game as two player and then afterward try melee, but given how the core set is geared to multiplayer, I was surprised.

    - Two ticky-tack gripes: The timing of the playing of Distinct Mastery doesn't make good tactical sense, and as a result perhaps creates the mistaken impression that the event must be played while a player is the attacker in the challenge phase. Also, there was a missed opportunity to explain Deadly and how it can fizzle when the defending character has already been killed for claim.

    - Looking at the flash renderings of the cards, player hands, and table layout had me thinking it would be great if FFG created a flash online version of the game to compliment the physical cards. Perhaps each chapter pack could contain an activation code that gave you virtual copies of the cards in the chapter pack. Please don't wake me up, I'm enjoying this dream.

I also noted that Ned didn't claim his power when he came into play, but I figured that and the deadly thing were left out for the sake of brevity. The video was well done overall.

I would love to see the flash online version. Then maybe I could play more regularly.
