  1. I've been playing around with Stark lately, since the boards seemed convinced that they are in the hunt with the other 6 houses. I tried Stark/Whitebook-fail. Stark/shadows(but not the agenda)-verdict is still out, but still not looking good. The last deck I had fun playing was my Bara/Summer rush deck, but with the rise of Greyjoy /Winter, it hasn't been near as effective. I haven't tried Martell since POTS hit, so maybe they'll be fun. They seem to have the right blend of control/rush to really fit my wheelhouse.

  2. I'm with you that plot blanking cancel would be better hitting all plots instead of When revealed effects only. I thought Forgotten Plans was a great card that got rotated too soon.

I am of the persuasion that only plots should cancel plots and no other card should be immune to plots. But obviously Nate doesn't share this view.

The top four decks at Black Friday, the recent European tournaments and our recent California tournaments do not show Shadows decks dominating.  To the contrary I believe the majority of tournaments are currently being won by non-Shadows decks.

Dan's Targ deck that placed 2nd at Black Friday was very shadow heavy. I don't think you need the agenda to be running a Shadow deck. In fact, most of the shadow decks are agendaless, but rely heavily on the mechanic.

And how many tournaments are being posted on the boards?  The vast majority of local tournaments have never been reported on the boards. I think the concensus opinion is that AGOT is a fragmented game with wide ranging results in various metas. That's why I started this thread

  4. What Comments and ideas from the board do you never see play out in the actual play environment? There always seems to be some disconnect, but with the game going more local and less national/international, what ideas never play out in your local/regional meta?

I'll start with my sentimental favorite house. THE MYTH OF STARK MURDER BECOMING TOO DOMINANT. For all you players who hail back to the Westy 40 card deck, maybe that was a serious threat, but it's been along time since I've seen Stark do well at major tournaments outside of Europe and the East Coast of the US. But every so often, a reason cited for Stark not being given in-house or neutral X, Y, or Z is the great fear of STARK MURDER BECOMING TOO DOMINANT. Really? Is Stark Murder really running your meta into the ground? Is it making Bara rush, Lanni kneel, Targ Burn, Martell vengeance/icon manip unplayable? I would figure Greyjoy could save from it.

Any thoughts on the STARK MURDER myth? What myths do you read all the time on the boards?

  5. Once again. that really depends on the House and the build. When playing Lannister, I choose solely on the basis of what the plot does, because I always have enough income without my plot deck.. If I'm running other houses, alot of times it depends on my gold curve. On a side note, I was really hoping to see Taxation or a  similar 2 limited card plot printed in PotS.

I normally pick a card, combo, or theme and build my deck from there. If the card or theme is a plot(Military Battle, City, Others, Blockade, etc.), I will start with my plot deck. IF my theme is in my draw deck(Stark intrigue, Lanni infamy, Martell rush, etc) my plot deck will serve to facilitate my draw deck.

Normally I try to have at least 1 reset of the area I'm weakest in controlling(hand, location, character). I tend to gravitate towards high gold, high initiative plots initially and then refine my plot deck. I find that I seem to need to refine my plot decks alot more than my draw decks.

I used to always build my plot decks last when I first started playing, but lately I have been building them more at the same time.

  6. It really depends on the House I'm playing. If I am playing Stark or Greyjoy, I never plan on winning the Intrigue challenge, so I concentrate on Military and power. If I am playing Martell or Lanni I focus on Intrigue and military. In Bara I focus on the Power challenge. ~I still can't get Targ to do anything but lose.

  7. My question is if FFG purposely makes the minor changes so that fewer reprints are useable or if they are changed for wording consistency or what exactly the deal is.

Why take the noble crest from Joff?

Why make these minor changes but basically reprint the old card? It's not like the old versions of these cards are broken or make huge problems in the LCG environment.

Sometimes it seems like another "F**k You!" to the older players. Or maybe I'm reading too much into the changes.

At this point anytime I go to a tournament outside of Claymont, I'm afraid to take reprints for fear that there is some minor change that will make my deck illegal. What's the point then in having reprints?

  8. Just on a side note, the top 3 decks in our tournament last night were shadow heavy decks. 1st was a Lanni tunnels deck, 2nd was Tag burn loosely based on Dan's from Black Friday, and 3rd was another Lanni Tunnels deck. THe only other deck with a winning record was Greyjoy /Winter Agenda. I think a real part of the problem is City of Lies followed by City of Spiders. 4 free Shadow cards by the beginning of the 2nd draw phase is just ridiculous.

  9. I have always seen it played  and played it one influence per keyword, not per character. So the hypothetical character would require Arya to kneel 2 separate 1 influence providing cards. If you want an in-depth reason, you will have to wait for ktom or someone else.

I don't think people were calling for a reset in the Shadows, but rather some kind of real shadow hate. How often will Greyjoy or Stark get off that event against the other 4 houses, which are the houses that are probably running shadows. No other area of the game has so little counter.

Lars specifically asked for a Shadows reset and two others said they agreed with him.

And yes, the dead pile and discard pile have almost no counter at all. Targ and Bara recursion decks dumped stuff in there and cycled it back out knowing that it was perfectly safe.

I missed Lars call for a reset.

Is there currently a Bara recursion deck in LCG that I am unaware of? Targ recursion does have counters in the Core Set that is simple and equally available to all houses.

On a Side Note, while I am aware that the LCG does have the CCG as its primary source, using past Dominant deck types and counters from the CCG seems disingenuous since the LCG really is a different animal. Certain key elements of the CCG have not translated over yet(if they ever will) and therefore make the comparisons difficult.
