  1. Another corrected version uploaded:

    - Zoat's "magical power." uncovered
    - Lost Kindred's "any Goblins or spiders that expose themselves." uncovered

That should hopefully fix everything. Next time we'll have a post-layout proofreader. :)

For what its worth I can see why Spivo reacted the way he did. The OP seems to be running a self-righteous crusade against FFG and 3ed ever since I started following the RPGnet boards, spreading half-truths and preconceptions and acting all innocent when people get riled up. And sometimes people try not to let him get away with it. I doubt the thread would have ended how it did if the OP had displayed a more civil approach in the past.

Except that treehugging octopus doesn't actually like v1 or v2 very much - he used a different system for the Warhammer setting, IIRC. So Spivo railing against him for being an angry v1/v2 grognard is a little misplaced.

My comment was not directed, and for the confusion I'm sorry, at grognards who would like more source material than has already been made in all the editions, but at those who don't like the system. And a thread title like the one at rpg.net, is aimed at the system and not lack of the not yet covered source material.

Wait, you haven't accounted for people who sort-of like the v3 system, but feel it's already at the tipping-point of component bloat. Don't waste so much time second-guessing people's motives for criticising v3; you'll drive yourself mad.

My comment about grognards, was that IF they don't like 3rd edition and apparently can never get over that it's there as a substitute for 2nd, then be contend with what there is. Is that so bad to say?

You should consider the possibility that some grognards aren't content  with what's already there, and that's precisely why they're critical of 3rd edition. Viewing things through red vs. blue goggles might make the world easier (or more comfortable) to comprehend, so long as you remember that your comprehension is illusory and not everyone is wearing the same goggles.

Manichean, hehe. If you actually bothered to read what I write, you'd find that I actually oppose this view, and praise elements of all three editions, 1st/2nd for it's insanely good source material, and 3rd edition for the innovative system. So that can't really be further from Manichean view, as that implies not liking anything but your own faith, okay my faith could be 1st/2nd edition source with 3rd rules, but that's far fetched...?

I did read what you wrote. You complained about grognards who couldn't just be content with their existing v2 material (all of which you said sucks except for 2 books).

Herr Arnulfe, please try not to get this thread closed as well by making comments about something people have never said or implied in any threads.

I think your Manichean worldview is self-evident to anyone who reads the RPGnet thread, or for that matter any thread where you condemn criticism of v3. Your "contribution" had absolutey nothing to do with the topic of PoD card packs.

I know I should stay away from those threads, they make me boil inside.

Threads like those are an example of why our world goes down the drain, due to people who are unwilling to be open to changes and to be positive about possible new things. How can you flame something you've only seen in a package??? It's like when someone of a different "colour" walks towards you and you grab hold of all things of value, it sickens me.

Yeah, you should definitely stay out of those threads. They cause you to become irrational and resort to broadly slagging v2 and its players instead of countering specific points. You always seem to think this is a v2 vs v3 issue when it's really not. i.e. "People must be criticising v3 because they're v2 fanboys!"

Mearls announced that 5e is going to have gridless combat.

Oh, I can hear the autistic screams already from the people who can no longer maximize the 5' step-flankmarkslantslidedance  ;)

WFRP3..ahead of it's time or just common sense in this regards?

Minis and a ruler is the Warhammer way. WFRP v2 only added grids because Pramas wanted to woo D&D 3.5 players. WFRP v3 only removed rulers because there wasn't enough room leftover on the table.

I got the impression that next LF is almost full but if you would like send your material to me at doc_cthulhu (at) hotmail (dot) com and I upload them on Daily Empire.

I believe Emirikol (Jay Hafner) is already collecting proposals for LF IX, but it doesn't have a lead editor yet, and the theme is still TBD.

  10.  The original Shadows Over Bogenhafen module came with a full-colour warehouse floorplan, which we still use on a regular basis. Something Rotten in Kislev included a forest glade floorplan for a pivotal encounter, also in full colour. Neither of them used gridlines. So I wouldn't say his suggestion is too outrageous, although v3 tends to use abstract location cards in place of floorplans.

At one time, GW even published entire books of floorplans and cardstock buildings for WFRP, including a Dungeons, Lairs, Caverns and Cityscape book. We still use floorplans from those sets all the time.

    Probably true. But sad.

Not for RPGs ! But for thinking and expressing complex ideas in general.

On the other hand, the expression of complex ideas in "next-gen" RPG books will require flavourful writing that's also clearer and more economical than most RPGers are accustomed to reading, otherwise they only solve half the equation. There will always be some amount of reading required in RPGs (at least, for games using highly-detailed settings). Perhaps the next-gen RPG will use relationship diagrams, rather than describing NPC/faction relationships in text-only. More pictures of NPCs and locations conveying atmosphere and personalities. A picture is worth 1,000 words, as the saying goes.

That said there are other things to think of. V3 is the RPG of the future. I'm sorry but the days of dusty sheets, boring rules and looking through books to find rules are over. V3 has a bit of the MMO approach to it with rechargable skills. I think the role players of the future want more systems like this.

I wouldn't go as far as "reading is dead", but I do agree that videogames have created a demand for RPG rules formats that cater to non-lexical didacts.

As we get older, we strive to keep in touch with our inner immagination, by mastering our rpg hobby, we still experience enjoyable gaming sessions. But at times we can't get rid of the sensation of becoming jaded as the wonderful memories of past rpg experiences cannot fully be repeated in these days. In a way we have outgrown them.

But in our search to re-connect with the youthful days of lazy summers and endless nights of playing rpgs, we raise our expectations. We buy tons of rpg products only to get a glimmer of the lost days of thrilling adventure and comradeship.

Personally, I find myself becoming a better, more imaginative gamer the older I get. If only I had the perspective and knowledge that I do now when I ran the Enemy Within. The golden years are right here and now IMO, and the best is still yet to come.

    whatever...you are a complete 2nd edition fanboy and arch-troll.

That was kind of rude and unprovoked. Obviously you haven't read about my various grievances with the 2e system. I added the smiley because I don't consider any of the rulesets to be actually "evil"; it was a figure of speech. My ideal WFRP ruleset doesn't actually exist (hopefully one day it will). But even if it did exist, I wouldn't get bent out of shape and resort to personal attacks when people criticized it, like you do.

The 2e system is modern-ish enough that you can find players for it without much difficulty, and it's easy to houserule. Aside from that, it's not even really close to being my ideal WFRP system. Definitely not a v2 fanboy.
