Q: With the card Collateral Damage (SOR 120) can I resolve a Melee dice and a Ranged dice as part of the same action? Thank you in advance, Michael

    Michael,
Thank you for the question. No, you must choose to either resolve melee or ranged with the card, but not both.   May the Force be with you,   -- Lukas Litzsinger Game Designer Fantasy Flight Games

Both Second Chance and Grievous' ability are Before effects. Both trigger on a character being defeated so the controller of the battlefield chooses the order that they resolve.
If Second Chance is resolved first then the defeat is replaced and Grievous cannot steal anything.
If Grievous is resolved first then one of the lightsabers is stolen, then second chance resolves and the defeat is effect is replaced.

Yes you are right, I forgot to account for the special being guarenteed damage. The price point should be 12/16.

I was surprised that Chirruts restriction was all Blue Ability upgrades, was expecting "You cannot attach Blue Character Only Ability upgrades to this character". This is still restrictive but only as restrictive as any non-blue character.

Backup Muscle is an Action in and of itself. On your turn you take an action. This could be to resolve dice OR to us a card with the Action header OR activate a character et cetera

    There are no symbol variants.

The RRG page 8 clearly breaks down the anatomy of a dice. A side will have a value and a symbol, maybe a cost or modifier ident or be Blank.

I feel the need to say that an action and a turn are, essentially, the same thing.
    Not the same as round

Jyn being number 44 is also fairly telling - Finn is Awakenings 45 and the first Hero Yellow.

Having said that, since we are expecting Chewie in this set and he would fall before Jyn in the numbering order if the order is correct then we are getting at least two less Red/Grey/Blue (and Villain Yellow) Support and/or Upgrades.

I'm thinking of running Trooper, eRey, Padme. Four dice, access to all colours and still 3 discard sides.

Yes we are getting four Heroes and four Villains from each colour but I suspect it will be three uniques and a non-unique.

Note that second chance - unlike Count Dooku - is before the character is defeated. Dooku is before damage is dealt. If FFG had wanted the damage to be applied after the healing of five then they could have worded second chance in the same way as Dooku. They did not, there is an in-game distinction between before damage is dealt and before defeated.

So for second chance you have:
Apply damage - If the characters health hits zero (damage tokens equal to health) do not add any further damage tokens (the rest is ignored).
Check if character is defeated (damage tokens equal to health) if they are then BEFORE taking the steps involved with defeating a character apply second chance.
Second chance means you heal 5 damage INSTEAD of being defeated - it cancels the defeated marker such that the steps involved now do not resolve - they are overwritten in the queue.

So unlike Dooku and Qui-Gon where the ability is an interrupt and is effectively slotted into the queue ahead of its trigger condition, second chance overwrites its trigger condition - replaces it such that it never happened.

Stop wasting your time those who actually READ rules. You've done your service to humanity. Twenty detailed and well cited explanations should be enough.

Yes, they are.  Again: If the character isn't defeated, Second Chance would never trigger.  The character MUST BE defeated, and that CANNOT happen until after the damage is resolved.

Effectively, the character is defeated by the dealt damage, causing Second Chance to trigger, which then replaces what happened and un-defeats them.  But the damage has been dealt by that point, and Second Chance does nothing to change that, only the defeated condition.  It also doesn't mean the character was never defeated. For a brief point in the flow, they were.  Then Second Chance interrupts that before you resolve it - not before it happens - and changes what you do.  But it doesn't rewrite the timeline.  It doesn't mean the character was never defeated.  It means they were, then Second Chance changed it.

You're also way overthinking the damage flow.  Damage is applied at an atomic event.  The defeat check is constant.  Before you add damage, is the character defeated?  No.  Now you add all the damage.  Are they defeated?  Yes.  Trigger effects which rely on defeat.

Slightly off topic but I've been running eGrievous and am constantly surprised at how many resources I can generate and how little damage I can do.

The points would tend to agree that Luke eRey would be the better combo.

Readying does not return the dice from the pool to the card:

READY A card is ready when it is in an upright position. Ready cards can be exhausted (turned sideways). A player instructed to ready a card should turn the card to an upright position. • A card that is already ready cannot be readied. • Ready supports and characters can exhaust to activate. Ready upgrades can only be exhausted through card effects
Dice are returned to their cards when they are resolved OR in step 2of the upkeep phase. Also note that readying exhausted cards and returning dice to them are two seperate steps in the upkeep phase which wouldn't be required if dice return automatically when the card readies.

UPKEEP PHASE During the upkeep phase, each player does the following: 1 Readies their exhausted cards. 2 Returns all of the dice still in their dice pool to their matching cards

'that' is singular and refers to the dice that has been turned. It is not referencing the dice side to be resolved.
