The Place Card remains faceup on the City space. When another character lands on the City, he may either encounter another character there, encounter the space (the Place Card must be encountered first), or encounter the scale (draw 1 card from the Dragon deck that matches the scale and encounter the Place Card but you cannot encounter the City). If the dragon scale matches the current Dragon King, the scale must be encountered! Ell.

Generosity question

I was stating the example in the FAQ. Generosity cannot be cast on a character without any gold! Ell. -
Generosity question
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to TalismanQuestion555's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
No. A Spell must have a valid target. The FAQ confirms this by stating that Mesmerism cannot be cast on a character who has no Followers! Ell. -
Can Vs. Cannot in the rulebook! Ell.

Forbidding effect. The other player cannot roll a die to add to his Strength. That means no dice whatsoever. I don't think it's worthy of inclusion in the FAQ! Ell.

Spectrum said: 1. When you encounter two or more enemies on the same space and one is of physical combat and the other of psychic, what happens when you lose the physical combat which comes first in priority? Do you lose a life and your turn ends right then? Or do you lose a life and continue on to fight the other enemy on psychic combat as well ? You lose 1 life and your turn immediately ends; you do not encounter the other Enemy. 2. We had a case where the Carnival card (which acts in the same way at the Tavern) was sent to the space where the Idol card (acts in the same way as the Temple) already resided. Now, the priority number for these two cards are the same, so let's say you decide to encounter the Carnival first. What happens if : a) You roll a 1 and get drunk thus losing a turn, b) you roll a 2 and get into a fight with the farmer and happen to lose the fight? Does you turn end there and then thus not allowing you to encounter the Idol card? a) Your turn immediately ends. This counts as your missed turn because there was another card to be encountered. b) Your turn immediately ends and you cannot encounter the other card. 3. The Miser Dragon. After defeating him, you may roll a die to see how much gold you get from his treasury. Can you also take him as a trophy? (I say you do, but just wanted to hear it from others as well) Yes you can take it as a trophy as well as gaining the gold. 4. You are in the Woods space right beneath the desert and you build a raft using your axe. Does this mean that on your next move you cross the river and proceed to the desert thus losing a life if you don't have some object to protect you? Or do you have the option to cross to the Oasis? (I think i've seen this option being available when i was playing Talisman Prologue). Yes you have the option. You may cross the river to any space directly opposite. Imagine projecting the brown edge lines of the space across into the spaces in the other Region. Ell.

The_Warlock said: But there's also that strange ruling in the Dragon Rulebook, page 16: Dragon Cards Special abilities and effects that apply to Adventure Cards also apply to Dragon Cards but only after they have been drawn and placed on the board. So, the final answer is: you can't use Stasis Spell on Dragon cards. If you want to ignore this rule to avoid confusion, as other people house ruled, then you have just to follow instructions on the Alternative Ending card: put cards on top of the deck immediately after cards are drawn. http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/91503/talisman-the-dragon-expansion-revised-rulebook You could use my ruling on this issue! Monster Special Abilities with multiple monsters
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to Pengy's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
The player loses 1 life and then loses 2 turns. However if Medusa was fought on her own, the player would just lose 2 turns. Enemies with an encounter number of 3 stack just like Enemies with an encounter number of 2 (the other poster got that completely wrong!). Ell. -
Croonos said: I wonder if Tavern Maid in Six Fate Inn can choose which result to use instead of rolling a die? Yes I see no reason why not, as it's treated as though a character visits the Tavern! Ell.

Priest's ability vs Tomb Warden
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to Tuomas85's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
Tuomas85 said: If you use priest's ability to defeat spirit enemy e.g. tomb warden do you gain Talisman or not? Yes. The word 'destroy' means the same as 'kill' in the game. In your example, the Priest destroys the Tomb Warden and gains a Spell from his ability as well as a Talisman or 3 gold from the the Tomb Warden. There is no wording on the Tomb Warden which prevents the Priest from accepting its reward! Ell. -

Question regarding order of play
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to allawi's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
The Sleep Spell immediately ends the players turn and the player CANNOT draw a Spell !!! The Sleep Spell ends a players turn immediately; it is not a simultaneous effect with the player drawing a Spell. The Immobility Spell has the same effect as the Sleep Spell, it immediately ends a players turn. Ell. -
Orb of knowledge and dragon scales
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to Bolithio's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
Indeed it was a curious decision! The ruling goes against existing rules & special abilities for no apparent reason whatsoever. The Prophetess can use her ability on Adventure Cards, Dungeon Cards, Highland Cards, & City Cards. I see no reason why she shouldn't be allowed to use her ability on Dragon Cards! We allow it in our games…. Ell. -
Warlock's Cave vs. Dragon King's scale
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to HAYLADY's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
HAYLADY said: My group's understanding of the Warlock's Quest rules is that when you complete the conditions of the quest (losing a life, discarding an item, etc.) you immediately are teleported to the Warlock's Cave to receive your reward and end your turn. The Dragon rules seem to muddy that a bit, since you not only can encounter enemies on that space, you could also encounter dragon scales. 1.) If you teleport to the Warlock's Cave after completing a quest, and an enemy is face up on the the space, do you encounter that enemy first before you receive your reward? If yes, and you lose the battle/psychic combat, do you still receive your reward? 2.) The Dragon King rules state that you must encounter a dragon scale that matches the king on any space you land on. Additionally, when you encounter a dragon scale, the rules indicate that you do not then encounter the space. If you meet the conditions to complete a Warlock's Quest, but the Dragon King's scale is on the Warlock's Cave, which one takes precedence? 2.a) If the Dragon King's scale takes precedence, thus not allowing you to encounter the space and receive your quest reward, would the player who meets the conditions to complete the quest still lose a life, discard an item, etc., and teleport to that space to encounter the scale? Or would the quest completion and teleportation only happen when the Dragon Crown passes to another dragon lord, thus freeing the character up to encounter the Warlock's Cave space? 1) No. You do not encounter any cards or players in the space at all. Once you have completed your quest, you are teleported to the Warlock's Cave and given a Talisman (or Quest Reward). Your turn then immediately ends. 2) The same as the first answer. You do not encounter any dragon scales either. You only follow the dragon scale rule when you land on the Warlock's Cave as part of your normal movement. i.e.you roll a 4 from the Temple and land on the Warlock's Cave. 2a) Not applicable (see above). Alternate House Rules to Speed Up Your Game of Talisman

My House rules, what are your's?
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to LindaLittleRose's topic in Talisman
Monk only gets +3 in battle from his ability (craft value = starting Craft). The Warhorse works exactly the same, a character gets a bonus of their starting Craft - Troll only gets +1, Wizard +5, etc. Ell. -

The Gathering vs Astrolabe
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to Nidhogg2's topic in Talisman Rules Questions
Nidhögg said: Hey. I had a little dispute with one of my regular players about the Event The Gathering where all faceup spirits in the same region are drawn to your space and if the Astrolabe/Gypsy can avoid that event. He said yes the Astrolabe/Gypsy's ability can negate this event from happening. I on the other hand don't think it works as the Event is not really happening to the character. What do you guys think? The Gathering is not an Event which directly affects the Astrolabe/Gypsy character. Therefore the Gathering still takes effect! Ell. -
Strange Eons question - Character Tokens
Toothless_Night_Fury replied to talismanisland's topic in Talisman Home Brews
Graydeth said: thanks for the tokens. much appreciated! used to play talisman (2nd edition) when i was a kid, and now, decided to pick up the latest version to play w/ my kids and the miniatures in the sets just didn't do it for me. found your website, which albeit a little confusing, is a treasure trove of information and resources. i especially liked the painted miniatures you got but, as you mentioned, if i had those, i'd never use them b/c they looked so great. these token cards are just the right thing for me b/c the graphics are so brilliant and really help w/ the immersion (vs the colorless miniatures). i plan to print them out on photo stock paper on my inkjet. what are you doing for the stands? i see three options. 1. fantasy flight has clear plastic stands which look ok (i'd want to rough them up and paint them though). can't really get a decent detailed picture of one though - only the 10 pack picture. 2. i see an earlier link to a game part store but, their forum has some dodgy customer service posts so i'm reluctant to go to them. they do carry 2 types of stands - of which, i'd get the large game stand which look simple. 3. make my own stands - get some wood and cut 1"w x 1"l x .5"h (roughly) blanks, cut a groove in the middle somehow, and paint them. or something like that… guess i could use some heavy card stock as well. i'm open to ideas though. I used these: http://www.boardgameextras.co.uk/item.php?id=1196&name=+rectangular+card+stand&cat=283&sub_cat=0#.URKD62f18is The FFG bases are designed for very thick card standees only. Not suitable at all for ones printed at home! Ell. -
Those 3 combo's are well broken. Design team missed those for sure lol Ell.
