All I own is the main rule book.  I am sure there are stats for a Carnafex in at least one book out there, maybe even in a couple of books. But I am not so interested in the "official" stats for a carnafex.  I just want to use one in my next adventure.

So what stats have you used.  What about those stats were fun, what would you change?  Also there are only three marines in the Kill Team, an Asualt Marine, a Devistator and a Librarian (actually a Rune Priest).  In the table top game there is no way these three marnies could kill a Canafex, but I think they can in the RPG

Carnifex stats are in Mark of Xenos (I know you want us to list some for you, but I couldn't put any out which won't look like FFG's, and claiming their stats as my own would be unethical).

Secondly, this RPG isn't the dumbed-down, "lets weaken space marines so much other factions can kill them," system as the TT. Your marines are a lot stronger, rightfully so, than those of shark-jumping WH40K. But still, you're not likely going to have an easy time with a carni. They won't be rolling around by themselves out in the middle of nowhere, they don't have synapse themselves, and they are pretty much a specialist creature. They're only used in big assaults so there's probably going to be a major synapse creature (warriors at least but 80% more likely a Hive Tyrant) and a lot of supporting nids, including scores of gaunts, several medium sized, and probably some flying ones as well. All of these guys will be heading for a specific objective (hint: it won't be 3 single man-sized creatures, it'll be a fortress or major concentration of food [people]).

Good Luck.

Basically the idea that I had was that a planet was comming under a Tyranid attack.  The Orbital Defenses are active thanks to the Kill Team defeating the Broodlord and his cultists, so the planet is better prepared for the Assault that it would have otherwise have been.  When the spores start raining down the planetary defenses shoot most of them down, but a few get through.  Most of the Spores (which come down scattered through the city) have guants of some kind, maybe a couple of them have warriors, but one of them has a Carnafex.  While the local PDF try to take care of the smaller threats the Space Marines are tasked with the Carnafex, that without synaps is just rampaging through the city.

This first stage of the Tyranid assault is going to be a failure becasue of what the characters have already accomplished, but a rampaging carnafex can do a lot of damage if the PC's don't kill it quickly.  My question is, does this encounter pose too much of a challenge for three DW marines?  The heaviest weapon they have is a Heavy Bolter, and two of the characters are primararly close combat and short range fighters.

Yep, the Carnifex is in Mark of the Xenos, and their stats are…on p.36. ;) Things to think about are your "average" Fex has triple digits health, Power Armor-quality chitin for armor, and some pretty good stats (Str and Tou, specifically.) Against Space Marines, I'd say they can be a viable terror, but you will find that, the way they were built, they cannot defeat vehicles; something about the stat-build for Monstrous Creatures seems to leave them unable to rend through anything, because even Rhinos have 30+ armor, and barring a special rule agaisnt vehicle armor, if they could break into a Land Raider, it would take a Horde of Space Marines to survive agaisnt a Fex in CC. Earlier, I remember reading several threads that lamented the Carnifex's and Hive Tyrant's loss of the ability to beer-can-to-forehead Rhinos and Predators; in TT, I often felt big vehicles were one of the things Carnifexes were for, and vice versa.

If you happen to be planning an on-foot encounter, I think your Kill Team will enjoy themselves, and hopefully use cover well, as the Carnifex demolishes said cover. ;)

If you're worried about the Fex being too tough, how about it was hurt in the crash landing of its spore. Maybe the spore got clipped by some Flak (mot enough to kill it obviously), maybe it impacted on top of a building and the Fex dropped 10 floors, etc.

That idea made me laugh; I would love to be there to see a spore pod miss, hit something, and then have the bruised Carnifex stumble out of it, like a drunk driver wondering what just happened to the car he happened to be in.

If it did happen, the race would be on. You must kill the Fex before it breaches some defensive line, and while it is weakened; otherwise, its fast healing will make it too tough again, and the allies you might be supporting could be doomed.

I basically took the stats from the Hive Tyrant, as a starting place (since I only have the first book) upped its strength and toughtness, lowered its WS and LD.  Then I got rid of some other stuff, like changed synaps creature to instinctive behavior: feed.  I also didn't five it any guns just crushing claws and scything tallons.  I don't think it should be too hard if they fight it smart.  I may add a guant horde or two.
