I searched the forums for before posting this but did not find anything.

I am looking to create maps, and have been looking around for software. I am using Mac, but have Windows running in Bootcamp on one of my computers. I came across Campaign Cartographer 3 which is Windows only, and Dundjinni but the concensus seems to be that it is out of commission. I would like to stay native to Mac if possible. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CC3 is good stuff. I've got it, run it in WINE, rather than Bootcamp. (Print to PDF, then print the PDF from MacOS.) Learning curve is steep, but massive power once learned.

If you're willing to cope with X11, then you can use Inkscape (which is free). It doesn't have the features for random lines, but it's a pretty god SVG editor, with excellent grid function.

Another useful, but not free, program is Cadintosh. It's a full up 2d CAD program, Mac Native. Steep learnign curve unless familiar with autocad, etc.

Awesome thanks! I think I will give CC3 a try. I set up Bootcamp just so I could play SWTOR last year, so I will give it a try and see out it goes. Thanks again.

One piece of advice - and it's important - go through the tutorials available from the Profantasy website. I don't use it often (I do most of my deckplans in sketchup, which is free), but for doing worlds, I use Fractal Terrains Pro, then CC3. I'm planning on future use then going into Inkscape to reduce the image size, but that's because I've been working on a few things for a Traveller alternate universe setting, and the rasters at 300DPI are rather uncomfortably large.

For pixel popping, when I need to do so, I use Lemkesoft's Graphic Converter. The artist who did the map of the Krayt Fang would be aghast at what I've done to his image, but my players LOVE having a clean-ish set of plans.
