So what if they make some CR-90 corvette size ships? Then we will need some boarding craft. I already see some scenarios using boarding craft to capture the larger ships and to reload bombers. I think this would and a whole new dimension to the game.  What are your thoughts or has this ben discussed in another forum?

It will never happen. This is a dogfighting game and capital ships are simply too large to be plausible at this scale.  A CR-90 in 1/270 scale would be just about 22 inches long. (a Star Destroyer would be over 19 feet!) At that size it is going to dominate the board and other than being kind of like a set piece or a stationary target for a special mission I don't see them being viable. The game simply isn't designed with that kind of scale in mind

I still think you could do it. Fighters would escort the boarding craft or bomber reloads. This would give a reason to have bombers in the first place and 33.3 cm is not too big in my book. It would be awesome!

Well the Imperials typcially don't use the Corvette so they would need a ship of their own and pretty much anything else from the OT is going to be way to big.

Also boarding craft don't really fit in a dogfighting game. What would they do when attached to the ship?

That said, doesn't mean a cool one off mission using this bad boy wouldn't be fun :D

The fighters would be used to protect or attack the boarding craft depending on what side you’re on. Kind of like capture the flag. Boarding craft could be used to reload bombers and capture or repair ships.

Thgere's already threads here int he forums about using this beast as a "disabled" craft, with rebels trying to pretect it for X number of turns while awaiting a relief vessel. And the Kenner toy (which I'm pretty sur ethe above image is) is really close in scale too…

The LEGO set is 20 inches long, which is really close in scale. Here is a pic i took after i made a base:

Now I'll have to dig up some stats and scenarios that others have made for it.

I have that lego too, but its been in storage for years.  Now you just gave me an excuse to build it and I probably need to make a base like that too.  Just wondering if the stats would be too op.  I was thinking like 20 shields and 30 hull with 1 agility and 6 weapons damage.  It would be stationary but able to pivot at 45 degrees.  And of course there would be respawns for the imperials set to any limit or unlimited.  While the rebels win by effectively destroying all imperial boarding craft.  The imperials win if the boarding craft attaches for 2-3 turns without being destroyed.  I think the pilot skill of the Corvette should be upward of 9.  And point cost should be around 50-60.  Those are just my thoughts.  Any ideas on stats for a boarding craft or additions to this scenario?

I would love to see boarding craft in this game.  Escorting them is really not much different than the Senator's shuttle mission in the BRB.  That being said, I'm not getting my hopes up for a model from FFG any time soon, would most likely be a tile like the aforementioned shuttle.  Maybe a GK dealer will come up with one (fingers crossed).

Personally, I'd love a Combat Utility Vehicle. Imagine a ship which can not only resupply your bombers and fighters with new warheads, but repair them mid-combat as well! It took mere seconds in the old X-wing games, and was really handy for missions where you were bombing something huge like a Star Destroyer. I doubt a capship this big would be in this game, a least not in 1:270, but considering how hard it can be to use missiles and torpedoes, it would be nice to be able to reload them. Maybe the CUV could give you a reduced cost for them so it can rearm multiple ships without breaking the bank. As far as boarding craft go, they'd probably need a new ruleset to cover boarding actions.

Rebel Alliance: 7 X-wings, 4 Y-wings, 4 A-wings, 1 YT-1300, 2 HWK-290s, 3 B-wings, 1 GR-75, 1 CR-90

Galactic Empire: 6 TIE Fighters, 1 TIE Advanced, 2 Firespray-31s, 1 Lambda class Shuttle, 3 TIE Bombers

I could see there being boarding craft, probably with a dial similar to the B-Wing. Allow them to board a large ship if they end a green move ubstructed by it.

Then allow them to do a Boarding vs Ship Defence roll.. and continue making them each turn until they fail to hit... or something like that... You could easily have number of crew on the main ship and each pod delivering crew and the damage each way being based on dice relative to this number...  (It would need some playtesting to work out the best way to do this.. but I'm sure you could work it out, a lot of other games like the original Man'O'War have done something similar)

It would fit well into the large games they are suggesting. As with a poor dial, and probably poor agility, you will need to guard them with models that can help them get to their target.

What would be really cool would be boarding crew upgrades like Sith Assassin, Darth Vader or Imperial Elite.

There is an Imperial boarding craft that looks very much like the Lambda shuttle.  You could also just the use the Senatorial shuttles as boarding craft.  I'm not sold that fighting a boarding action falls within the scope of this game.

I've picked up two of those CR-90's for $25 and $35 (one for me one for a friend).  Picked up a third for someone else that was up to $50.  Bought two of the Star Destroyers also about $35 a piece (one for my Imp Gunship the other my son requisitioned).

It HAS happened.  I picked up two DX9 models from Shapeways.  They are a lot of fun to fly.  The artist designed pilot cards, dials, bases, etc.  I printed off a 2D scale Corvette which remains stationary on the game table.  we devised house rules for the boarding procedure.  Once the DX9s have delivered their stromtrooper squads, another table joins the game.  We use the old Star Wars Miniatures with a double map.  Imp mission is to capture Leia.  Rebs get home field advantages on the Corvette (more house rules).  Two tables, one game, multiplayer insanity.  Excellent scenario.

Also, I've printed some other items from Shapeways which can be viewed below.  XWing is a fun game, but special scenarios keep it interesting.  IMG_1786.jpg

I've got a couple of those DX-9 from Shapeways too, and am also planning on converting some TIE Bombers into TIE Boarding Craft.

Red,

How do you use your DX9s?

Here are our house rules for boarding:

DX9 starts at the board edge with other friendly ships and must maneuver into place.

Step 1: DX9 base must be completely covering the 2D ship to be boarded.  Any part of the ship counts, except the engines.

This turn the DX9 may use its action to latch onto the target ship.  It may still take damage this round.

Step 2: DX9 remains in place on the target ship.  Uses action to cut through the target ship's hull.  Once the cutting begins, the rebels do not want to dislodge the DX9 for fear of decompressing the capital ship.  Their best bet is to defeat the boarding party on the ship.

Step 3: Troops begin boarding.

We will probably play this scenario on Friday with 120+ flight lists and an imp boarding party with Vader to capture Leia and a Bothan diplomat.

Rebel victory: Imp boarding party is repulsed or destroyed.  Imp fighters destroyed.

Imp victory: Leia captured.  Capital ship engines disabled.
