I'll probably start building an SSU army and it'll become my #1 army when i'll play DT.  My main DT player, my brother, plays the Axis and won't change army.  He's that conservative :P

Now, I already have 4 Medium Panzers in the Axis army (2 from Core set, 1 expansion and 1 "Loth limited promotional walker" gifted to me by FFG for some f'up with my last order, they're that awesome).  some of those Walkers already have some punch against heavy vehicules and aircrafts.

For the sake of variety I thought about buying 1 Light Panzer expansion since the Heinrich pack some punch against aircrafts (5/1 for Armor1 and 2 and 4/1 for Armor3).  To balance things out a little more I thought about getting 1 Heavy Panzer expansion too.

Do you think it'll be enought to keep the Axis competitive?

Is the Heavy Walkers necessary with 4 medium and 1 light walkers?

Thanks for your advices!

You will be competetive without buying anything.  You win by playing the scenario, not by destroying a heavy tank.  The biggest problem is the helecopters as these can go anywhere mowing down your troops, tanks you can avoid.  Defo need a fair amount of AA ability.

I don't copters are total game changers. Remember, you always have line of site to them, and they aren't as hard to hurt as tanks. The transport's the one that you have to watch out for, dropping troops whever it wants.

Upgrade the AXIS? Right now, I cant imagine an SSU force being able to take on a similar point Axis unit.

Played Axis with my SSU squads tonight. Heavy Flak Grenadiers + Lara = dead Troop transport in first round. Kind of my fault, no idea they would get 15 dice against it so I put it close to them /faceplam. At least the burst weapons didn't get double the ammount of dice. Anyway, he still had two walkers that could have hit it too, so I would say that the Axis are already doing well aginst aircraft.

Oh, but the SSU did pull off the upset (Used command squad to get a new Heli, and had lucky dice rolls after that).

If you organize your Axis force correctly, you should have little to fear from Airpower. The Axis have some really excellent AA units. Even a Luther can do some damage. A Sturmkonig is another matter entirely. You will almost have to have one if the SSU are in force.

I totally agree that when the SSU gets those choppers out it is going to be a huge improvement. I was initially not excited about SSU, but the more I look at commissars and air transport the more I like it.
