This tournament is part of the Living Tournament system. You are welcome to read this, play the scenario, and post your results (in that order). Place well enough, and you may just end up with a Living Tournament World Ranking!

Scenario: The Massing at Osgiliath
Deck Parameters: Open Build*
Number of Players: Solo Player

Tournament Parameters:

1) This is a Living Tournament. You may play and post results at your own pace.
2) *Open Build means you may use any legal LOTR LCG cards at your availability.
3) A valid result in this tournament consists of reporting your results (wins and losses) from 3 back-to-back games (may be spread out over as much time as you like), using the same deck for each of those 3 games. (Please observe the mulligan rule, and all other rules, from the LOTR LCG rulebook and subsequent official FAQ documents.)
4) After you post your results, the results from your 3 games will be calibrated using the RGun formula** to obtain your Weighted Result.
5) Weighted Results will then be ranked against other player’s Weighted Results, and the rankings will be updated over time as new results are posted to the thread.
6) You may play this tournament as many times as you would like (so you can try out different deck builds over time), but you can only hold one spot in the overall tournament rankings at a time (i.e. this gives you a chance to try and best your own result while only occupying one spot in the rankings).
7) Do not cheat. Just don’t. It destroys the fun and integrity of the tournament system. If you realize you have made a mistake at a later date that had serious implications for a result you had posted in the past, please make a new post in this thread drawing attention to that fact – that past result will be invalidated, and of course, you are welcome (and highly encouraged) to try again.

**The RGun formula has been designed to value both Final Score (per game) and overall Win Ratio (from your 3 games, cumulative). The formula is: (Average Score of Games Won) x (Total Games Played/Games Won). For an expanded discussion on how this formula was created, you can read the thread called Measuring Success.

Posting Your Results (Required Information):

Card pool: 3 x Core Set, All Shadows of Mirkwood AP, KD, TRG, RtR

Decklist

Solo - Miner of Osgiliath

Hero (3)
Dain Ironfoot (RtM) x1
Eowyn (Core) x1
Dwalin (KD) x1

Ally (21)
Gandalf (Core) x3
Gildor Inglorion (THoEM) x3
Landroval (AJtR) x3
Radagast (AJtR) x3
Zigil Miner (KD) x3
Northern Tracker (Core) x3
Dunedain Wanderer (RtR) x3

Attachment (5)
Narvi's Belt (KD) x2
Ancient Mathom (AJtR) x3

Event (24)
A Test of Will (Core) x3
Beorn's Hospitality (Core) x3
Dwarven Tomb (Core) x3
Fortune or Fate (Core) x3
Grim Resolve (Core) x3
Sneak Attack (Core) x3
Stand and Fight (Core) x3
Will of the West (Core) x3

Wow! I just can't believe I managed to pull 3 wins in a row! I was minded to post a result with only one or two victories, but the deck performed beyond anything I expected!

I did get great starting hands in game 1 and 3. Both had a Sneak Attack + Gandalf coupled with a Zigil Miner, allowing me to take care of all 3 starting Scouts on turn 1. Game 3 was a bit more difficult as I was having trouble finding allies, but I did manage to make it back to the White Tower, being pursued for 2 rounds by the Wraithking. But even game 2 saw me holding my own with just the starting heroes.

I think the deck would work even better by replacing the A Test of Will with something else (possibilities include: The Galadhrim's Greetings, Hasty Stroke, allies such as Elfhelm, Faramir, Brok, Lure of Moria and Shadows of the Past). Most treacheries are without any significant effects anyway (the worst one being that which makes you discard all your allies, but the deck rarely has allies to discard). Ancient Mathom could also potentialy be replaced; it was of limited use. Dunedain Wanderer did prove its worth; by replacing We Do Not Sleep, it means the deck doesn't have any "dead" card anymore. It's bound to get even better as more 5 cost cards are printed (let's hope Secrecy is long-lived!).

The major challenge of the scenario is getting rid of the initial threat. After that, you pace yourself for a couple turns to build your army and then you give it a quick go for the last 2 stages. Dain can even block the Nazgul once it engages, if he wasn't previously injured.

Fortune or Fate is a star against this scenario. It lets you return the sacrificed hero used to cross the Anduin or recover from some nasty treacheries (A Wolf attack suddenly becoming undefended, for example).

Well, this reconfirms, for me, the might of Zigil Miner. I admit the solo version isn't adapted to all scenarios, but it does work wonders against Massing at Osgiliath!

Heroes: Eowyn, Theodred, Dunhere
Game 1 Result: 134
Final Threat Level: 34
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 0
Number of Rounds Completed:10
Well, with 2 Sneak Attack + 2 Gandalf the things are settled; I got 2 Marks on Dunhere, and are cleaning the staging every turn; I got a ranger so I do not need to sacrifice no one… and Witch King last 1 round: 4 wounds with Gandalf plus a gang up on him (Dunhere 4 STR, Gandalf, Theodred, 2 Silverlorde Archer, plus some STR 1 allies), and he is killed; of course he raised the threat for a total of 14 on a turn (11 on the quest even with Eowyn and Eomund), plus 3 to do not come back to staging area… my best result ever.

Game 2 Result: LOSS
Final Threat Level:
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero:
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes:
Victory Points Earned:
Number of Rounds Completed:
Ouch… I killed the Witch King, but was overwhelmed by the scouts raised by the Captain. One more turn and I will win the scenario, but was very close. Gandalf never showed up this time, and this hinder my success… if I can reduce my threath at least once…

Game 3 Result: 137
Final Threat Level: 29
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 8 (Theodred)
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 1 (on Dunhere)
Victory Points Earned: 1 (Pelennor Fields)
Number of Rounds Completed: 10
This time the rangers are waiting me on the other side of the river. Theodred sacrifices himself, and after I crossed the river, Witch King take a hit when the ranger pull out of his sleeve for 2 wounds (plus 4 from Gandalf this turn). He was killed and in the next turn the other Ranger showed as well, and we run across the fields to reach the gates.

My decklist

2 Northern Tracker
1 Unexpected Courage
2 Hasty Stroke
2 The Galadhrim's Greeting
2 A Test of Will
3 Gandalf
2 Lorien Guide
2 Faramir
3 Snowbourn Scout
2 Silverlode Archer
2 Sneak Attack
2 Steward of Gondor
1 Celebrian's Stone
3 Dunedain Mark
2 Song of Kings
2 Eomund
3 Escort from Edoras
3 Ancient Mathom
2 Ride to Ruin
3 Westfold Horse-Breaker
3 The Riddermark's Finest
3 Mustering The Rohirrim

It is indeed interesting that this, whilst being probably the hardest quest overall, is one of the few where A Test of Will is not essential. It doesn't take care of either surge or doomed which are the worst part of the treachery cards in general.
