This tournament is part of the Living Tournament system. You are welcome to read this, play the scenario, and post your results (in that order). Place well enough, and you may just end up with a Living Tournament World Ranking!

Scenario: Journey Down the Anduin
Deck Parameters: Open Build*
Number of Players: Solo Player

Tournament Parameters:

1) This is a Living Tournament. You may play and post results at your own pace.
2) *Open Build means you may use any legal LOTR LCG cards at your availability.
3) A valid result in this tournament consists of reporting your results (wins and losses) from 3 back-to-back games (may be spread out over as much time as you like), using the same deck for each of those 3 games. (Please observe the mulligan rule, and all other rules, from the LOTR LCG rulebook and subsequent official FAQ documents.)
4) After you post your results, the results from your 3 games will be calibrated using the RGun formula** to obtain your Weighted Result.
5) Weighted Results will then be ranked against other player’s Weighted Results, and the rankings will be updated over time as new results are posted to the thread.
6) You may play this tournament as many times as you would like (so you can try out different deck builds over time), but you can only hold one spot in the overall tournament rankings at a time (i.e. this gives you a chance to try and best your own result while only occupying one spot in the rankings).
7) Do not cheat. Just don’t. It destroys the fun and integrity of the tournament system. If you realize you have made a mistake at a later date that had serious implications for a result you had posted in the past, please make a new post in this thread drawing attention to that fact – that past result will be invalidated, and of course, you are welcome (and highly encouraged) to try again.

**The RGun formula has been designed to value both Final Score (per game) and overall Win Ratio (from your 3 games, cumulative). The formula is: (Average Score of Games Won) x (Total Games Played/Games Won). For an expanded discussion on how this formula was created, you can read the thread called Measuring Success.

Posting Your Results (Required Information):

When posting your results for this tournament you are encouraged to cut and paste from the following template and complete the requested information:

Comments: As with Passage Through Mirkwood, I only used cards from the core set (which I have two copies of). I tried using the same deck that I used in Passage, but had a bit of bad luck with card draw - killed the first troll only to have a second one come out right away in the first game, second game two Brown Lands roughed me up as well as a second troll and Ufthak, and third game I got hosed by 2 goblin snipers at the same time and brown lands.

After those 3 failures, I changed my deck around to include Dunhere (instead of Legolas), which lowered my initial threat and allowed me to include more Spirit cards, while getting rid of some of the Tactics cards. The first game was going well until I hit a bad streak with the encounter deck where I drew 4 enemies due to surge (the last one being Ufthak), followed by 2 storms. The second game I had to mulligan my initial cards, which resulted in an even worse hand. No Galadhrim's Greeting, and that location where you raise your threat by 2 at the end of the round, meant that I had to engage the troll on my second turn. Got hit with a shadow card that raises your threat by 4 the next turn, and got smacked around by some heavy hitting enemies.

Final game started out great: Gandalf, Galadhrim's Greeting, 2 Feint's, and a Quick Strike. Lowered my threat on the second turn which gave me some breathing room to get Gandalf out. Engaged the troll when I was ready, used Feint and Quick Strike to ensure that he didn't get an attack in. Dunhere dealt with enemies in the staging area no problem. I ended up with a bit of a build up of locations, but two Northern Trackers handled it nicely.

My dwarves are on their way down the Anduin. They started with two awesome wins, but then lost. Next two tries saw only one win each, but therefore I got some lucky encounter draws in my fourth try which led to three straight wins and a new personal high score:

Heroes: Glóin, Dáin Ironfoot, Bifur

Game 1 Result: 96
Final Threat Level: 30
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 3
Victory Points Earned: 7
Number of Rounds Completed: 7

Game 2 Result: 87
Final Threat Level: 37
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 4
Victory Points Earned: 50
Number of Rounds Completed: 4

Game 3 Result: 123
Final Threat Level: 38
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 2
Victory Points Earned: 7
Number of Rounds Completed: 9

Here is a summary of game 2:

encounters / cards played / WP - threat  = progress

setup: Hill Troll (duh!)

round 1: Misty Mountain Goblins / Erebor Hammersmith / 8 - 3 = 5

round 2: East Bight / Celebrían's Stone on Bifur / 7 - 2 = 5 (MM Goblins killed by Dáin + Glóin)

round 3: Driven by Shadow / 2x Snowbourn Scout / 5 - 2 = 3

round 4: Eastern Crows + Evil Storm / Sneak Attack (Gandalf; combat phase; 4 damage on Hill Troll) + Ever Vigilant on Gandalf / 5 - 2 = 3 (Hill Troll killed)

round 5: Pursued by Shadow + Necromancer's Reach / Erebor Hammersmith / 9 - 0 = 9

round 6: Goblin Sniper + Dispair / Erebor Record Keeper / 14 - 2 = 12

I got Enchanted Stream and Necromancer's Pass in stage 3B, so i only had to fight against the Goblin Sniper. A Snowbourn Scout defended and Dáin made the final attack.

Glóin got 2 damage by an undefended attack by Eastern Crows (with Eastern Crows as shadow effect) and Bifur and Glóin got 1 damage each by Necromancer's Reach.

Deck list (1 core set + all Mirkwood expansions + KD):

Neutral (6):

3x Gandalf

3x Song of Wisdom

Leadership (23):

2x Faramir

2x Longbeard Orc Slayer

2x Silverlode Archer

3x Snowbourn Scout

1x Celebrían's Stone

2x Narvi's Belt (has never been used, so I might replace it by Dúnedain Warning)

2x Steward of Gondor

3x Dúnedain Mark

2x Sneak Attack

3x Durin's Song (just realized that Rivendell Minstrell can also give you this card!)

1x Ever Vigilant

Lore (21):

3x Rivendell Minstrell

2x Daughter of the Nimrodel

2x Mirkwood Runner

3x Longbeard Map Maker

2x Erebor Hammersmith

2x Miner of the Iron Hills

3x Erebor Record Keeper

1x Henamarth Riversong

2x Forest Snare

1x Burning Brand

As you see, the deck relies heavily on allies and attachments with only five event cards. Like most dwarven decks it is built around Dáin and his ability, but also includes many elves. Protector of Lórien didn't make it into this deck as I'm always low on cards.

Heroes: Dunhere, Eowyn, Thalin

Game 1 Result: 117

Final Threat Level: 33
Threat Cost of Dead Heroes: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 2
Victory Points Earned: 8
Number of Rounds Completed: 9

Game 2 Result: 145

Final Threat Level: 45
Threat Cost of Dead Heroes: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 4
Victory Points Earned: 14
Number of Rounds Completed: 11

Game 3 Result: 138

Final Threat Level: 38
Threat Cost of Dead Heroes: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 4
Victory Points Earned: 4
Number of Rounds Completed: 10

I used a low threat deck with a lot of allies in it and managed to win all 3 games I played. Second turn took a little bit longer than it should've because I forgot I put Unexpected Courage on Thalin.

This was my first deck to incorporate both Hobbits!  Pretty challenging for this scenario, but I had a lot of fun trying.

Heroes: Bilbo, Frodo, Glorfindel

Game 1 Result: 187
Final Threat Level: 34
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 17
Number of Rounds Completed: 17

Game 2 Result: 158
Final Threat Level: 45
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 9 + 7
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 4
Victory Points Earned: 7
Number of Rounds Completed: 10

Game 3 Result: Loss
Final Threat Level:
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero:
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes:
Victory Points Earned:
Number of Rounds Completed:

All three games were kind of epic in their own way. In game one, I cycled through the encounter deck completely before even leaving stage one! I think I had a triple surge at one point. Seriously!  In game two, both hobbits died (moment of silence), and Glorfindel finished with 4 wounds ~ so, by a thread! A huge highlight was being able to compete stage 2 in one mighty burst of questing. Game three, however, was really only epic in that it was epically short. Completely overwhelmed right off the bat, and all three heroes got wiped out in round 2.  In all, I had fun with this deck. It was fun to play with some of the elvish Lore allies, and I splashed a bit of Leadership via some well timed songs. Not very mighty score results, but I had a good time trying something new.

i am really impressed with anyone who can beat this solo. it is really hard. I cannot figure out how this is rated as a 4 difficulty and Rhosgobel, which I found to be rather easy, is a 6.

Eleanor (Core) x1
Eowyn (Core) x1

Ally (20)
Bofur (TRG) x1
Elfhelm (TDM) x1
Eomund (CatC) x1
Escort from Edoras (AJtR) x2
Gandalf (Core) x3
Northern Tracker (Core) x3
Rider of the Mark (RtR) x3
The Riddermark's Finest (THoEM) x3
West Road Traveller (RtM) x3

Attachment (15)
Ancient Mathom (AJtR) x2
Dunedain Mark (THfG) x3
Dunedain Warning (CatC) x2
Song of Kings (THFG) x3
Steward of Gondor (Core) x2
Unexpected Courage (Core) x3

Event (15)
A Test of Will (Core) x3
Dwarven Tomb (Core) x2
Hasty Stroke (Core) x3
Shadow of the Past (RtM) x2
Sneak Attack (Core) x3
The Galadhrim's Greeting (Core) x2

I used the same deck I just took against Road to Rivendell.

Game two had me chump block three times against the Troll, counterstriking for 7 (4 damages) each time before finally killing it. I did bring my threat down a bit (I went as high as 49 at times) later on, but the damage was done. It was again a case of not getting any Song of Kings.

Game 3 had me in a good position. Upon the last turn, I had a Dwarven Tomb in hand. I went looking in my discard pile to find... no The Galadhrim's Greetings... had I realized it, I would have recurred an Ancient Mathom the turn before to speed up my draw...

Heroes: Frodo, Theodred, Dunhere
Game 1 Result: 100
Final Threat Level: 33
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 1 (on Frodo)
Victory Points Earned:4 (Hill Troll)
Number of Rounds Completed:7
A very lucky initial hand. I got 3 Dunedain Mark right away and kill the troll in 4 turns. I got Celebrian Stone as well, and with that my main problem (questing) is not a concern. On the other hand my threat does not reduce never, and the setup revealed Pursued by Shadow raising my threat before I can do anything...

Game 2 Result: 125
Final Threat Level: 24
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero:0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes:2 (on Theodred)
Victory Points Earned:11 (4 Hill Troll, 3 Gladden Fields, 4 Chieftain Ufthak)
Number of Rounds Completed:11
This time I do not get any Mark even after Mulligan, and take out the troll on round 6; after that my company was built, and I need 2 more turns to deal with a Ufthak revealed after I second stage, along with other minion on staging area and another one revealed... but a good result as well.

Game 3 Result: Loss
Final Threat Level:
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero:
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes:
Victory Points Earned:
Number of Rounds Completed:
That IS bad; I lose my Theodred to a timely not countered Necromarcer Reach; I will play it again, but this came here for statistics... but make me feel sick for sure...

My decklist:

2 Northern Tracker
1 Unexpected Courage
2 Hasty Stroke
2 The Galadhrim's Greeting
2 A Test of Will
3 Gandalf
2 Lorien Guide
2 Faramir
3 Snowbourn Scout
2 Silverlode Archer
2 Sneak Attack
2 Steward of Gondor
1 Celebrian's Stone
3 Dunedain Mark
2 Song of Kings
2 Eomund
3 Escort from Edoras
3 Ancient Mathom
2 Ride to Ruin
3 Westfold Horse-Breaker
3 The Riddermark's Finest
3 Mustering The Rohirrim

The first one was a little slow, but the enemies died easily. The second was rather a hell, because the threat was high all time. And the third was hell, both Hill Trolls at the same time crushed me.

Wow... this adventure is tough as nails! I tried it with the same deck I used on Passage Through Mirkwood, and actually found moderate success. I'm going to keep attempting it, however, to see if I can get 3-for-3 successes.

HEROES: Boromir, Eowyn, Frodo Baggins

CARDSETS: Core x2, All Mirkwood Cycle

Game 1 Result: LOSS

Game 2 Result: 147
Final Threat Level: 31
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 14
Number of Rounds Completed: 13

Game 3 Result: 103
Final Threat Level: 33
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 2
Victory Points Earned: 4
Number of Rounds Completed: 8

Total: 225

Hi DavFlamerock! Welcome to the Living Tournaments!

I think your Game 3 results may be miscalculated. I add up a game result of 111. Did I miss something? Between the two victories then, the Weighted Score comes to: 193.5

Let me know if I'm off somewhere, and again, welcome!

Overall Score: 134.6

2 core sets, one copy of all the adventure packs and expansions except watcher in the water
Game 2.  Two hill trolls to deal with early on in the game. Gandalf sneak attacks and Dunedain marks on Dunhere finished them off slowly while keeping a low threat.
Game 3 was almost a breeze, thought I would end with a score below 100.  Hill troll showed up in the staging area in the end with a few other enemies. Ewoyn and Thodred bit the dust.  Dunhere with unexpected courage cleaned out the two foes while the hill troll sat in the staging area.  My threat was low enough so that I just hit the troll in the staging area for a few rounds and finished him off.  It was a one-on-one show down in the end his one threat to my one willpower then, unexpected courage, deal two damage with the two dunedain marks I had.  Pretty exciting game, things went downhill pretty fast, surprised I pulled it off in the end.

'At last' said Aragorn 'Here are the tracks that we seek!'

Posting Your Results (Optional Information): Cards from 3 x Core + all other packs up to and including TWITW. The strategy is to use Aragorn's ability to soak up the Troll's threat while he kills allies and you draw a Forest Snare or Gandalf, and then blitz through stages 2 and 3 in two turns. This can work very well but it is vulnerable to other nasty enemies coming out of the encounter deck and engaging while you deal with the Troll - hence I haven't managed 3 wins in a row yet.
