The rule book isn't too clear on this point and I was wondering if I was doing them right

1) enter area with gate and get drawn through after monster (if any) is dealt with. Skip Arkham encounter and don't pick up clues. Have an other world encounter instead

2) move into second area in other world and have an encounter. If you succeed then go back to arkham and can try to seal the gate immediately. no arkham encounter.

It seems like 2 turns is a tad on the fast side

Assuming you don't get delayed, it should normally take you three turns to get in and through a gate to seal it.

Turn one: enter and Other World encounter

Turn two: move forward into second area of Other World, have another encounter

Turn three: move out and seal or close the gate.

There shouldn't be clues there to pick up, either. Page 9 of the rule book in section  C2 states "Discard any Clue tokens that were on the location: The investigators have missed their opportunity to follow up on those leads" and page 10 of the rulebook states in section 2 "Place a Clue token on the indicated location unless there is an open gate there."

Avi, for all his corruption, is spot on. Important note in Arkham is to pay attention to the phases.

Heavily unrelated note:

Me and Brian came across with a freaky way to open a gate yourself and seal it during 1 turn. You need Naacaal Key from Black Goat expansion, Find Gate and Erich Weiss ally or Mark Harrigan (or some other way to prevent getting delayed).

Naacaal Key requires movement points and if successful, opens a gate of your choice at your location (side note, good for vs Atlach, open and seal a gate at a stable location , of course not really sure you can do that ). I originally felt that you'd only get sucked in during the encounter phase, but ColtsFan76 was of the POV that it'd be like getting "a gate appears" encounter and thus delayed. From there, I was off. Since you enter the gate already during the movement phase and being Mark (or having Erich) prevents you from being delayed, you can then cast Find Gate and return to Arkham, ready to close/seal during your Arkham encounter.

For all practical purposes, a jaunt through the OW should take you 2 turns total (though it is spread over 3 turns).  That means 2 OW encounters while you are away.  But, if you get a gate that opens on you unexpectedly (from an Arkham Encounter), then you are delayed and can expect to spend 3 turns (spread over 4 turns) in the OW - with 3 encounters.

But that is typical and the game is anything but.  Spells and some encounters can shorten your stay.  Encounters can also lengthen your stay and there is the possibility of getting Lost in Time and Space.  Abouyt the only thing that you can be sure of is that when yuo need to get in and out in 2, you will take longer.  And when you need to delay in the OW (because you are waiting for a return gate to open), it will go fast.
