I made a simple script for testing purposes.

@Edit: changed to online version link.
Link is here: www.gmtools.excelocms.com

Enjoy, and feel free to report any bugs in here if you find them (does not concern IE).

Sweet, nice job.  This will be really handy for the first couple of sessions till everyone gets their own dice.

Just thought of this, what is the likelihood that FFG makes an official online dice roller in order for people to play a trial version of v3 without getting any new components?

It's not going to be as convenient as having your own dice for the most part, and the initial dice are packaged with the starting box, so I don't think they'd be cutting down dice sales very much.

I'm not sure, but I would not bet on that.

We don't know if there will be any trial version of v3 (like for example the Forsaken Bounty scenario for Rogue Trader).
Also, how many official dice rollers they made to this day?

But maybe they will suppraise us. Nothing bad in having hope.

Fixed minor issue:
- clear button, fired wrong event, rolling the dice before cleaning the pool, and leaving some roll info in Result Summary.

@Edit: only download link in my sig available from now on.

This is AWESOME! Thank you. I can't stop playing with it. I sent it out to my players along with a copy of the 'dice face' description PDF.

From the email:

So a typical dice pool for a starting player attempting an average
difficulty task he is proficient in would be:
-Player-
2 BLUE
1 YELLOW
1 RED or GREEN
1 WHITE
-GM-
2 PURPLE
1 BLACK

Suggestions:

  • Add a background so the white dice show up (or add a boarder to the dice)
  • Make the (hammer+) reroll add to the pool instead of replace it
  • Add a 'cancel out' function to clear results that cancel each other out

Thanks again - great toy.

I'm glad it helps .

Just to remember. I put symbols on the red, and green dice purely randomly, and I'm not 100% sure about the other dice.

But you can edit the faces by editing the file "dice.js" in catalog "js".
It is simple text file (UTF-8 encoded, but it should not matter since only english letters are used inside).
You can edit it in any text editior like "notepad" for example (I'm using SCITE).

Oh thanks! I just went into the 'main' file and changed all the borders (in the dice and dice adds) to

border: 2px solid #000000;

I can see it a lot better now.

New version.
@Edit: only download link in my sig available from now on.

Changes:
- some slight color and border changes for better visibility.

Added:
- when you roll "Hammer with +" on a die, another die of the same type is automatically added to the pool and rolled.
Note: when you reroll a die that rolled a "Hammer with +" and generated additional die, that additional die will NOT be removed from the pool. You need to remove it manually.

Sig updated.

Looks great, and you can run it on IE if you allow active-x.

An active-x warning will pop up at the top. Just right click on it and 'allow'. Till you do that the clickies won't work.

Excelent toy!

Suggestion:
Make the "Blank" show up not only in the summary but also on the dice rolled.
At the moment I only get a narrow colored bar when a blank is rolled.

New version:
@Edit: only download link in my sig available now.

Added:
- you can hide/unhide result summary tab (if you want to count the symbols by yourself, when testing how much time does it take)
- blank will now show up on a dice when rolled

Sig updated

To all that downloaded this tool:
I wrote this script to provide testing tool for now (and a tool for GM in later use), and now want to ask you to run some test with it and post results in here.
For testing I mean:
- close result summary tab
- make yourself a few skill/spell cards (it is not important if it will be some real cards, or just a few randomly grouped symbols, but let it allow rerolling a dice, adding a dice to the pool and such)
- roll, roll, and roll
- make notes on how many dice, and of what color did you roll
- how much time it took for you to count all the sybols and compare it with the cards you made (was it difficult?)
- anything you think of
- post the results here

This will give us some glimpse on how the dice pool mechanic work, and how time absorbing it is.

The update fixed a problem I was having with being unable to reroll when I changed the dice, so that's good.  Two thoughts:

  1. It would be great if this could be made available online as part of a website - embedded, but I accept this might be difficult.
  2. I now realise that when a challenge die cancels out another die, I'll just physically put those dice aside.  This could be reflected in the programme by greying out dice that cancel each other out.

I repeat, this is fab - just what I've been hoping for.

New version:
@Edit: only download link in my sig available from now on.

Added:
- possibility to gray out the dice that cancell each other

IMPORTANT: remember to clear your browser cache (temporary internet files in IE) and reload the page, to be sure, that it is refreshed properly and the old scripts are gone.
