Hi,

I just picked up the base game of Descent 2.0 after seeing it in the shop for a few months and not having the funds. The first thing I notice is it is 2-5 players, the first question I have is, "Is there an expansion that adds another player as my gaming group fluctuates between 4 and 6 players."  Also what order do I purchase expansions in and/or which lieutenants do I need (I am very interested in the lieutenants that can be used as player characters as well, as I am not going to be the overlord in my group) Also is there a way to get more dice for the game, as I like having my own set, or is there a dice roller for android I can get to use for decent.

No, there's not. It would be a good idea for an expansion, since it seems like there are a lot of groups who have just one extra person they need to seat. I'm not sure how easy it would be to rebalance the mechanics, though.

There are a few fan-made variant ideas along these lines.

There's no "required" order to buy the expansions in. I think a lot of people just go in order of release date as a default.

As for LTs, it comes down to personal taste really. A lot of people dislike Belthir because his plot deck relies on the Basic I Overlord deck (as opposed to the Basic II deck introduced in Labyrinth of Ruin.) Myself, I like the Farrows.

Serena and Raythen are also interesting.

Also is there a way to get more dice for the game, as I like having my own set, or is there a dice roller for android I can get to use for decent.

I don't know about any apps, but FFG does sell extra dice packs. These dice packs only include the dice from the core game, not the green die that was added in later expansions. However, they seem to be including one or two green dice in every expansion since it's introduction, so you'll probably end up with enough of them over time anyway.

Awesome. There is an expansion at the store, may pick it up tomorrow and open it. I assume I can use the heroes and monsters but not start the quests till I beat the main game right?

The group I play with has a big fluctuation from game to game, 4 to 8 players. We have tried retooling the mechanics a bit, but so far no matter what we do, the Hero's overpower the OL when there is more than 4 hero's.

Yes, you can mix in monsters, heroes and so on from the expansion right away.

Plot-wise, there's no reason to finish to the core game before playing the quests in any expansion.  Each expansion set of quests tells an independent story.  The only reason to "finish" the core box quests first is if you're already in the middle of a campaign.

The small box quests can be mixed into a big box campaign as side-quests.  I wouldn't recommend doing that if you're already half-way through the campaign, no.  But if you're starting a new campaign, you can mix them in whether you've played the campaign through already or not.

You can also play the small box quests as a "mini-campaign" by themselves, which I actually prefer myself.

Will have to have a look, I know I saw a large box expansion, I assume the small box expansion covers how to insert them in, our group ran the first quest twice just to familiarize ourselves with the system, and while we are big RPG players even if the story didn't work as long as mechanically it wasn't too imbalanced hopping quests probably wouldn't be too crazy for us.

Has anyone tried it with two Overlord players working together? I mean, it might not be the greatest thing sharing the Overlord spot with someone else, but it does avoid having one person sit out and watch 5 of their friends play the game. I'm not sure if it would break balance, but maybe two Overlords each with their own Lieutenant Pack in play. It would beef the overlord up quite a lot, but it would also be dishing out Fortune tokens to the heroes pretty frequently.

Ringskipper, that is an interesting idea I will bring up next game.

There must be a way of doing it without filling up the board with double open groups (something we tried, did nothing but bog the game down). I was also thinking perhaps giving the OL a Lt. for each additional hero after 4. That would at least slow a few down and make things a little more equitable.
