Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to X-wing. One of my local gaming stores is putting on a tournament this afternoon and I kind of wanted to try it out, but I'm not really sure what kind of list to bring. I have the core set, another x-wing, a tie interceptor, the Slave I, the Lambda shuttle, the Millenium Falcon, the Y-wing, and the HWK-290.

I saw a lot of talk about how blah the shuttle is but was wondering if it would be good in a build where you use it as a shield and then attack with the more agile ships from behind it?

Thanks for any help.

The shuttle isn't blah so much as it needs some skill and planning to properly use, it relies heavily on it's pilot abilities and upgrades since even with three attack it isn't agile enough to be a main hitter. Using it as a sort of shield would work, particularly with Kagi drawing TL or Jendon passing them out before the swifter fighters swoop out into an attack run.

With what you have though I'd go rebels, Possibly a Y and Hwk or Falcon as a turreted center with the two X-wings flying on the flanks?

Good luck whatever you go with though.

Just have fun and learn from your opponents and yourself. Fly what you know how to fly and don't use ships or abilities that you are not familiar with. Good luck.

This advice is coming from someone who came in last in their very first tournament.

Rebels: 4 X-Wing, 4 Y-Wing, 4 A-Wing, 2 Yt-1300, 3 B-wing, 3 HWK-290, 1 Redeemer CR 90

Empire: 6 Tie Fighters, 6 Tie Interceptors (1- 181st, 1- RG), 2 Tie Advanced, 2 Firesprays, 3 Tie Bombers, 2 Lambda, 1 Vigil Corvette

Tournament results: 11 of 11; 3 of 11;

With what you have I would recommend a list with the YT-1300 and a couple of X-Wings. One popular list is Han Shoots First w/ Han + Gunner + Marksmanship coupled with a couple bare bones Rookie X-Wings. It's got firepower and has a decent amount of hull/shields for an opponent to chew through.

Ultimately have fun and enjoy no matter what list you try!

The main problem with that is the Shuttle's dial is so bad that you really only ever want it in the rear, as it has issues turning (even with Engine Upgrade).

I also agree with Galactic Funk, try a Han-list variant, as they are both powerful and fun.

I think I'll try the Han Shoots First list. I can add Chewbacca and that brings it up to 100 pts. I was trying to figure out a variant using a cheaper Y-wing, but I don't know if the loss in attack and agility is worth the 3 extra hit points.

But having 2 ships with 360 shooting is :)
This you can abuse to no end.

If you want to use the shuttle, here's a good place to start:

Omicron Group Pilot + Gunner + Engine Upgrade

That's 30 points. FCS makes is a lot more potent, but you don't have a B-Wing. If you can borrow the card, do so. If not, consider Advanced Sensors or Sensor Jammers, the former giving you a bit more punch and the latter giving you surprising survivability. The other option is Rebel Captive, which makes your enemy not want to shoot the shuttle.

Add in a Firespray and a couple TIEs and you've got a pretty solid list.

Don't listen to the neigh sayers about the shuttle. ;)

I never have any luck with Han, he takes up about 50 pts but he only shoots once. He's easy to block leading to no actions (MF title is essential for the evade action) or just rolls ineffective attack dice against 3 agility TIEs etc. Meanwhile, he gets completely chewed up.

I don't have the gunner card, maybe that changes things as it is vital that Han kills things early and throughout the game.

edit - sensor jammers is almost unfair on the shuttle, it can be frustrating to go up against. It gives it much more survivability vs the falcon.

Personally I consider Han the worst of the three named yt pilots. He's popular paired with marksmanship and gunner but I just prefer Lando and Chewie so much more.

what he said. Falcon + Y + HWK, ion on Y an either ion or blaster on HWK :)

take ur pic from Han, Lando or Chewie - they all have their benefits.

another option would be Falcon + rookie + HWK, its got a little mor firepower but i do like the idea of running 3 ships with 360 firing capability.

Sample 100pt Squad#1

Lando + Chewbacca (crew) + Nien Nunb

Gold Sqdrn + Ion Cannon

Kyle Katarn + Blaster Turret + Moldy Crow

Sample 100pt Squad#2

Chewbacca + Draw Their Fire + Title Card

Garven Dreis + R2 Astromech

Kyle Katarn + Ion Cannon Turret + Recon Specialist

If you had an A-wing to get access to Push the Limit, then I would suggest this version of Han Shoots First:

Han Solo + Push the Limit + Gunner + Recon Specialist + Millennium Falcon title

Rookie x2

You have everything except PtL

I'm a big fan of pairing Lando and Dutch. Keep them together and both will always have TL and a focus.

44 Lando Calrissian
+5 Gunner
+1 Nien Nunb

23 "Dutch" Vander
+5 Ion Cannon Turret
+1 R2 Astromech

21 Rookie Pilot

There are a few main ideas with the Shuttle.

SableGryphon's aforementioned Magical Space Buffalo build (it has a different name every time: just make sure that it has synonyms for 3 of the following 4 terms: Magical, White, Space, and Cow) is an unexpected buzzsaw of damaging delights.

Tournaments tend to like using Darth Vader on it, and just using it as an expendable ship with guaranteed attack bonuses.

Col. Jendon is often used with a hyper Target-Lock build (+Fire-Control Systems +Weapons Engineer + ST-321) and then passing them around either a swarm of Eyes or a squad of Squints.

Capt. Yorr is often considered, but I've not heard of a truly excellent fleet using him yet.

A blocker-build is certainly an idea. Engine Upgrade + Intel Agent would be necessary. Advanced Systems would probably be nice, so you could choose a Stop as your maneuver, look to make sure the Stop would work, and Boost if it wouldn't.

I use Captain Yorr as my third Albino Void Giraffe in the list. He's really good there, since the other two move first and I can pull a stress onto Yorr, then move him with a Green manuever. It lets me do things like stop and focus.

Hope it went well.  I played my first local tourney today and finished 3rd with dual Falcon.  Got rolled by some spectacular bad play and dice on my third game.  All in all it was a a lot of fun.  I hope your first tourney experience went well for you!

So there were only 4 of us that showed up to play. I used:

Han Solo - Marksmanship - Gunner - Chewbacca

Rookie Pilot

Rookie Pilot

The first guy I played had:

Chewbacca - Marksmanship - Gunner (maybe something else on it)

B Wing - Firecontrol Systems

B Wing - Firecontrol Systems

( I can't remember what pilots he was using on those, it was a 99 point build).

I beat him. It was close but I won. Then I played this guy that has played tons. He was kind of running the event so he didn't count himself for the prizes. But he beat all 3 of us.

He had:

Han Solo - Marksmanship - Gunner

HWK-290 with Roark as the pilot so he kept boosting Han up to 12. But something else he had I think allowed him to boost this one too. Sorry I should have kept some notes.

Then he had a Y-Wing with Ion Turret.

It was pretty close for a while but I made some mistakes maneuvering and he was able to capitalize on it.

Then the guy I was supposed to play next had to leave so I didn't get to play him. So the guy I beat the first round had beat that guy and gotten more points than me so he took home the medal. But I got 4 acrylic stress tokens, two movie art Y-wing cards and a movie art Mauler Mithel card. So that was really awesome. Plus for my first tournament and the first tournament for that store it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to play some more.

I happened to come across this info from Team Covenant on playing a tie swarm with the Shuttle and how to maneuver it. This sounds pretty fun. I might try it. But I'll need to buy a couple more tie fighters.

Here's the link: http://teamcovenant....uttle-part-one/    (Edited to include link)

Thanks everyone for your help. I might try some of these other lists on this post too.
